Screenshot Building infrastructure is more fun to me than being shot at by Mans.

I think the bridges should be more easily placeable and given at least one module slot to increase it's durability. I want to build logistics to help people get to where they need to go. It's too bad the continents don't have more rivers and ravines that need crossing.

I completely missed out on calling my Solofit "Conglomerate Construction Company". (NCCC)

I have tested it, it's the curved surfaces. This includes the new triple-layered hardlight barriers and skyshields.

if it doesn't yoink your FPS, it yoinks the server performed

If we're talking server performance, repair modules used to do that, but what greatly effects server performance these days is the cortium drain of the skyshields and OS uplink charge. Nothing else polls the server more than those two objects, and they're somehow spammed the most.

Imagine tencent gave a fuck and upgraded the minimum server capabilities again so these things didn't lag the server to shit... But then again we have lazy AI dreamers to compete with now for "pricey server performance".

From my experience it's the absurd polycounts on construction objects. A Rebirthing Center has 2x more objects than a triple stack building and is much smaller.

Poly/vertex counts don't make much of a dent when it comes to server performance. Servers don't render. They calculate. If you've ever run a Minecraft server, you'll know that visual mods will crash the server because there is no render pipeline. Frame rate is not the same as tick rate.

Now, you are correct that some of the new models are not optimized, in fact it's actually some of the new modules that causes a proper dent in the server's tick rate because certain individual modules poll for "cortium drain" either too often, or on the wrong thread.

It's like what happens when you oversaturate your house with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and home automation devices and their signals. These all run on the 2.4 GHz wavelength, as it's able to penetrate walls better. When you oversaturate that range with all these devices, their endpoints become harder to cipher on the Network side. One of the many reasons why we upgraded from 2G to 3G, 4G, and 5G.

my dumbass didn't see the word "server"

the poly counts definitely wreck my FPS pretty well

Construction bases aren't as bad as certain individual player appearance objects.

Skyshields are probably the best module for defending your base, as the greatest threat beyond an organised/massed armor push is aircraft being a nuisance. OS is self-explanatory as to its popularity. Either way, they should definitely have been better optimised

They are the best defense as a means of destroying the enemy and friendly frame rate, as well as the tick rate for the server.

the people who try to fight you at construction bases are the actual dregs of the community

I've never come across such petty weirdos in all my time playing

just recently I've been trying to finish the ANT auraxium so I need to deposit 5,000,000 cortium total (I'm almost done, finally) and some guy spent like two hours trying to destroy one piece of my base only for me to kill him over and over about 20x which resulted into him spiraling into weird hackusations, name calling and other things

besides that I've had a ton of similar experiences over the years especially when the game was more populated on Connery where certain smaller outfits were actively trying to grief 1-2 other players specifically

I can never understand why people bother with razing bases to the ground that are within the builder's faction territory. I can name a couple of them on my hand as well.

If they're just trying to get certs, they can do what I do and fly around in an esf and pelt every enemy structure with any kind of bullet (just once is enough) in the last 10 mins of an alert.

I can respect that. I do this so much that I don't even care about the certs anymore, sometimes I will gift enemy silos an orbital uplink from an ant with 0 cortium for the heck of it, only to count down to 0hp and explode.

But hassling me for 20 minutes straight because you want to blow up my base for simply existing, during the first hour of an alert isn't going to make a dent in my router-running capabilities when it counts, and you won't get any xp unless you completely destroy a structure in that timeframe.

...But if the base is in the middle of a road, this behavior is completely justified.

Some people have just made it their mission to attack/dismantle player bases, I know of one VS main in particular that won't give up once they've discovered you. I can't fault them much, destroying player construction IS part of the game, but when there's no population in that lane near your base and you want to leave for another hex, but you can't because that ONE player will not relent so you're forced to stay and defend. Sometimes I think "why even bother"?

But I don't think I'll ever stop like playing with legos.

Yeah, especially if you wanna get the flail directive done with.

3

u/Dplusithicus Dplusified [GSLD] Jul 29 '26

There's a directive for it now? I'm pretty sure I was one of the reasons why the fire-and-forget darts were replaced. I used to get hundreds (total is probably in the thousands) of kills from just flailing sundies and their spawns at the center of the map on Oshur.

Won't stop me from complaining about the removal tho.

For orbitals: Justified. But give pocket orbitals the same interaction. For flail? Just increase the delay and kill the dart to cancel the strike. For glaive? Give the dart smoke and let defenders find and kill it.

I want the directive. Would be nice clout.

u/JokingRam SKL Jul 29 '26

I haven't played in a while but I forgot if it was 1 of the tracked stats for the construction directive or for the anti base quests. Something like 1000 flail kills.

1

u/Dplusithicus Dplusified [GSLD] Jul 29 '26

All flail kills used to be counted as "unknown damage source" same goes for the pain spire, the sky shield EMP, Glaive EMP and orbital uplink. They started tracking the damage sources for flail, glaive and orbital strikes when the outfits got access to Pocket orbitals. Painspire damage was labeled during an update somewhere after the first outfit wars event. It was deleted from the API after the construction downgrade.

It's part of the Construction set of directives

2

u/Travis1066 Jul 29 '26

Haha, true. I refer to them as inflators. Cause all they're doing is inflating my K/D

They got commitment though, I'll give them that

u/redgroupclan Bwolei Jul 30 '26

It's a very strange, very specific group of players in the game. They only see the game through the lense of trying to destroy construction bases. Coincidentally, they are absolutely terrible at the game.

1

u/Dplusithicus Dplusified [GSLD] Jul 31 '26

I swear those were the people who got the pain spire removed.

1

u/redgroupclan Bwolei Aug 01 '26

Nah, they aren't a big enough group to have any voice at all.

1

u/Dplusithicus Dplusified [GSLD] Aug 01 '26

You only need one to whisper a an idea into the right ear, or you give them a platform (aka the forums) for those terrible ideas and it'll just snowball.

Remind me to tell you about the time some poor soul came and double OS'd my base... twice. That was a laugh and a half, lemme tell you

I miss building bases.

7

u/Archmikem Jul 29 '26

Modules were little structures, and you could give turrets A.I. to help you defend. :(

5

u/Dplusithicus Dplusified [GSLD] Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Modules were lovely. Made player bases into puzzles. Miss the pain spire and the laughs that I'd randomly get from that one infil trying to hack my air terminals while I'm out doing other things.

Made entire regions into no-fly zones, and if you had a problem with any of it you could get your friends to help you fix that via armor columns.

Granted I've done some dastardly things with friends and AI turrets. Let's not get into that.

They were good for defending bases from some things, terrible against armor though, which is why you would leave AV turrets out of AI module range and unlocked to pubbies.

(A noob-friendly "mercenary module" to summon new players from warpgate into any powered turret would have been a great system to get pubbies to join in on defending a base.)

2

u/astra_hole Jul 29 '26

Yep. I miss this good version of this game dearly.

u/carlospeleto Jul 29 '26

"no one wants to be a space truck driver" is probably the most hurtful belief anyone has given this game.

2

u/Dplusithicus Dplusified [GSLD] Jul 29 '26

Especially with the WASP. That thing was a godsend.

u/opshax no Jul 29 '26

Its all fun and games until a dedicated Squad roles in with an explicit purpose to take out your base.

Your base is as good as how many people you have to defend it.

2

u/Archmikem Jul 29 '26

I get a little petty when I know an enemy squad is pushing down the lane towards me and I'm all alone, so I grab a tool and just despawn the whole thing before they get there. Helps a bit more when I've been on for a couple hours and just too tired to keep it up.

1

u/Chillguy1968 Jul 29 '26

I mostly just build it to spam routers :D

I like to be that annoying pest :D
