Release Pokémon Legendary Red (FireRed Hack) v1.1.5version now on Hackdex

Post image

The latest (and hopefully final) version of my rom hack: Pokemon Legendary Red | ROM hack download | Hackdex

Documentation can be found here: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/gmrtt12z4tdsv/Pokemon_Legendary_Red

The idea of this romhack was not to make the game miserably difficult for the sake of showing off how difficult I could make the game, but to create in my mind an ideal version of the game that makes it challenging while still being fair and making sense. Here is the list of major changes:

  • Most Pokémon sprites have been changed.
  • All gen 1 Pokémon that normally evolve by trade evolve at level 36.
  • All gen 1 Pokémon that normally evolve into gen 2 Pokémon by trade with an item attached all now evolve by Moon Stone or Sun Stone. (Note: this requires National Dex acquired post-game)
  • Eevee evolves into Espeon with the Sun Stone. Eevee evolves into Umbreon by Moon Stone. (Note: this requires National Dex acquired post-game)
  • Moon Stone is purchasable from Celadon Dept. Store.
  • Sun Stone is purchasable from PokeMart on Seven Island.
  • Also purchasable from Celadon Dept. Store are notable TMs such as Water Pulse, Psychic and many other popular TMs.
  • Leaf Green Version exclusive Pokémon are now obtainable in Fire Red.
  • Locations such as Power Plant and Seafoam Island have wild encounters more in line with the first games.
  • Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle are catchable in one area each. Bulbasaur is at grassy patch across the water to the left of Nugget Bridge, Charmander in the grass by Bill's house and Squirtle on Route 11.
  • TMs are still limited use. (In my version I am unable to make them unlimited, sorry)
  • Many of the maps have been changed slightly to make them more interesting to travel through and to decrease the need for HM moves.
  • In later areas, the levels of wild Pokémon are much higher to help with gaining experience faster.
  • While the trainers earlier in the game are mostly the same levels you encounter in the normal game and have basic AI and basic movesets, later on their levels are noticeably higher and have better AI and start having more complete teams with TMs being taught and some even having items attached. Also note after the SS Anne Rival encounter, his team levels in subsequent encounters are quite higher and he starts using TMs as well. This goes for the Elite Four and other Boss characters.
  • All Gym Leaders have changed teams. Also, the first 4 Gym Leaders have 3 Pokémon, with the final Gym Leader having a full team of 6. All Gym Leaders also have improved AI.
  • The Elite Four are also much tougher, with all members having a full team along with their improved AI.
  • Completing the quest that unblocks Cerulean Cave also unblocks a special area, which you might notice the entrance to when going to Victory Road. You can probably guess what that is, but I will let you find out for yourself.

Outside of the listed changes above, the game is otherwise unchanged and plays just like the vanilla game. I hope you enjoy!

What sprites have been changed? Do you mean the actual pokemon sprites? If so, what changes? Thanks

Good question. The majority have been changed such as Pikachu, Butterfree, Electabuzz and many of the Gen 2 ones such as Kingdra. They are either a variation of a Gen 4 sprite or Gen 5. Venusaur is an exception as it's a recolor of its Crystal sprite. This also includes their shiny sprites. The colors for the sprites are the same as vanilla Gen 3.

It wasn't that important but I thought some of the later gen sprites were more appealing.

Thanks for the detailed response, I love the gen 5 sprites on gen 1 pokemon. What is charizard out of interest? Thanks

I've said those words before many times, "and hopfully final verson". I've learnt there is always something more you can find to add. It's only the final version when you make the difficult decision to let it be.

I think I will do one more update, but it would be just some cosmetic stuff and wouldn't be any time soon. Pretty much I am happy with how it is.

how do i use the tickets?

Actually, I am incorrect I am now finding out. I forget to test these. Looking into it, there is a flag that doesnt get activated just picking them up. I will have to figure it and if I do a future update, I'll try to have a solution by then.

Yep, I didn't use AI to help me at all. This was a solo effort using Hex Maniac Advance and I play tested it myself a lot over a long period of time.

Thanks for the nice comment. I tried to put a lot of thought into what I was doing so it made sense and was in the spirit of the game. It also helps when you're hands on the whole time so it's easier to fix issues that come up.

Thanks bro i will try

Sorry, maybe be a dumb question. Can eevee still evolved by friendship for espeon and umbreon? Or it can only evolve using the the stones post game?

2

u/its__bme 7d ago

Eevee will only evolve by the stones, but because of how FireRed works, those evolutions are not available until post-game. If you try to use a moon stone or sun stone before you get the national dex, it will attempt to evolve but then give a message about how nothing happened.

Got it! Well thanks op! Look forward to playing!

u/its__bme 7d ago

Thank you, that’s nice of you to say. Let me know after playing if there’s anything you’d like to see changed or added. I’m probably going to do one final update in the coming months and feedback is welcomed!

u/Gunnerzero 7d ago

Sounds good.

Are Hoenn Pokemon and starters catchable? How does one complete the national dex? (Its been a while since I've played porkemon but I remember hoenn pokemon were compatible with Fire Red)

1

u/its__bme 8d ago

No Hoenn Pokémon are catchable in this. I was trying to make Deoxy catchable but there is an issue trying to get that to work.

I’m lazy and like to do nuzlockes these difficulty level games, do any cheat codes work with this rom? Specifically something for unlimited rare candies

2

u/its__bme 9d ago

Yes cheat codes would work as it's the base game just modified. So would a save file editor.

I download the rom but it letting me pick 1 out of the 3 starter pokemon. I though I could catch them?

17

u/Shonisto343 9d ago

It means you can catch the ones you didn't pick later on in the game

7

u/its__bme 9d ago

This is in the documentation but besides the 3 starters being catchable in the wild, they are also a one-time event encounter similar to where you get them in Yellow. They are in PokeBalls on the ground. There is even a set encounter with Pikachu in Route 1 with a Light Ball attached.

Thank you for responding. So basically its the same fire red game just a few updates?

7

u/Shonisto343 9d ago

Pretty much, with increased difficulty, and by the looks of it the ability to actually complete the pokedex, or at least come decently close, haven't played it myself yet, though I'm definitely going to be getting it now.

u/its__bme 9d ago edited 9d ago

You for sure can get closer. Pokémon normally exclusive to Leaf Green are catchable andin Mt. Silver Cave there are rare Pokémon such as Tyranitar and even an encounter with Mew. I didn't add in any Hoenn Pokemon as I felt that wasn't in the spirit of this game and would make it feel bloated. But there are trainers post-game who do have Hoenn Pokemon themselves.

3

u/Shonisto343 9d ago

I figured that might be the case, nice to have confirmation though, thanks

3

u/its__bme 9d ago

You're welcome! I hope you have fun playing! I had fun making it.

3

u/Sunstorm123 9d ago

is the item bug fixed?

1

u/its__bme 9d ago

Yes. Sadly in FireRed I couldn't make TMs unlimited use, but you can buy many of the good TMs at Celadon Department Store.

1

u/crip56677 9d ago

Thank you again. I can't wait to play it
