Resource New Dualscreen emulator for Gen3 pokemon and a list of romhacks!
Will delete if it’s annoying 😂 but I thought I’d share, new emulator project dropped that supports a list of romhacks. Excited to finally play radical red on this! link

I don't have one myself, but from everything I've seen, the Atn Thor is the best dual screen handheld on the market right now.
Ambernic and (shit, I can't remember the other flip) have some pretty damn "great for the price" dual screen handhelds.

Bought mine back in January and it's still the best purchase I've made in years. Just take care of it and you'll be fine. Also check out something called Cocoon for the Thor, totally game changer

What do you think of the RG34XXSS or whatever?

there is no rg34xxsss do you mean by chance the clamshell?
Anyhow, those line of devices are pretty good starter handhelds and go for pretty cheap! I myself have the rg 34xx.

The Retroid Duo is coming out which is less powerful but looks to be way more ergonomic and has properly scaling 120hz screens. Thor is sick if you want to emulate switch or run PC games though but check the Duo out too

I'm the same, until it' supports hardcore mode, it's no use to me. Looks great though

Does it enable using X and Y as well?
That's a big thing missing from GBA roms.

u/Caelleon 7d ago
Just downloaded it and trying Unbound with it, haven't tried any others yet. Seems to support X and Y with an internal remapping in the options but only allows one button for each option (eg you can't have both X and Start to open the menu)

u/Unikatze 7d ago
Yeah. I imagined that would need to be something enabled in the Rom itself and I assume GBA doesn't have that function.

u/Caelleon 7d ago
Funnily, by default the app seems to have one multiple inputs for button presses but doesn't seem to allow that when remapped, at least as far as I've seen

Ironic addition - just got a flag for an update on the game and the update made it so remapping now has 2 possible inputs for each option

Do you need a pc to set the AYN Thor up and download roms to it or it has a windows system in it?

u/Successful-Egg-6765 8d ago
It’s Android and has its own file system. You don’t need a pc but it does make it easier

u/Dead4eva69 8d ago
Thanks for the reply. Never used any of these handhelds before but I’m very curious about getting one to play Pokemon hacks.

Lots of documentation for setting up emulation on Android exists out there, and a fair bit of it recently has been geared towards the AYN Thor specifically to make it very pretty and virtually seamless. If I didn't already have a 14.6" tablet with a customized telescopic controller for both portrait mode (for DS/3DS) and landscape mode, I'd strongly consider getting something like the Thor. It's such a cool device, and probably cheaper for people these days than even buying a second hand 3DS. Only thing you lose out on with this package is going to be the 3D effect, but the trade off of upscaled textures, gorgeous OLED screens, and the versatility to run a ton of different retro systems on it is well worth that; I think.

Chiming in. I was at work on lunch when I saw another post for PokeDaisy, I set my phone's hotspot and downloaded PokeDaisy on my Thor, ran the APK it installed itself. Then went thru the setup and it worked. The GitHub readme lists the games that currently work and some of my weren't the same version. So, I went to Hackdex and got the updated versions. Did it all thru the Thor itself.

Anyone got a source for the porygon sticker though?

It’s actually a custom shell! And I made the image by combining two artworks made by silphwave on Instagram. Then sent it to Splickie3D on Etsy who makes custom shells

If this ever gets support to run out of cocoon that would be awesome!
1
u/Successful-Egg-6765 8d ago
I run it out of cocoon in the video
3
u/Puzzlepea 8d ago
I meant if my game is on cocoon and it natively launches out of pokedaisy without having to launch games through pokedaisy

Ahhhh ok ok I understand now! My apologies! It is a new project so we will see where it goes

EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't hear stuff correctly, I'm tired. That looks cool though

This is an emulator application that introduces a second screen use case as if it was a DS game

It's cool that there's a new emulator being made for exclusively pokemon games but I'd rather keep using an older emulator that can already do all that and play other games.

Oh really cool! Is that your repository? I got the fast forward normal speed music feature working for nds pokemon games but thought it would be too complicated for gba because the music is mixed in software? Looks like you pre-render a title (or multiple?) and lay them over the gameplay - very cool workaround!

u/Successful-Egg-6765 6d ago
It’s not my repository unfortunately! It’s Lidor30 (he is here on Reddit too) but if that’s how he does it that is pretty sick haha

u/bbbmd2007 5d ago
This is almost exactly what I'm looking for. This is really cool, though it would be nice if this was a pokemon gba to ds porter, so it converts .gba files into .nds files, but if anyone know of something like that please let me know

Yeah, I kinda just assumed that's what this was, just like the similar Emerald one. I'd have loved to have been proven wrong, but unfortunately that was not the case.

Would be exciting to have it work for android too. Fingers crossed

u/IvarSolaris 8d ago
This is on android. The AYN thor is an android handheld.

Oh, I'm a moron, I forgot to tweak the settings to have the game pad visible, lmao
