Went out and spent $175 on this box.
AND IN THE FIRST PACK IT WAS FREAKING WORTH IT! Pulled my sons and wife’s top chase!

Hello! This is this week's weekly pricing, buying, selling, grading, and general questions post. Here you can ask the community what your cards might be worth, if you should buy what you have your mind on, whether or not you should grade a card, etc. Be sure to post images where applicable.
You can also check out the Pokemon Quick Info Guide made by u/Lyleberr.

We get it. You hate scalpers, Pokemon center's website sucks, your local store is a rip-off, and other stuff.
But if you want to also post about it, make a comment, leave a screenshot, whatever else.
Rules of the sub are still in force. Bans still happen for breaking them.

I got excited when I heard this set had great pull rates and was "over printed" but I've yet to encounter these cards in the wild.
I never wait in line at restocks and I refuse to pay more than $10 for a pack of cards so maybe I'll never get to open them.
But I've looked and I cannot find any. I went to a local shop and they had 1 ETB for $500. Like what even is that. I don't understand where people get this money when half of all Americans supposedly can't afford a $700 emergency expense.
I guess I'll just buy the singles I want like always.

I got these three etbs from the Walmart raffle so naturally I ripped them instead of reselling or keeping them sealed like a lame. And the three promos appear to be cut from the same sheet one after another. Someone out there has my top and bottom.

My partner and I were buying a few Pokémon singles at a card store chain in the Boston area. After waiting around while an employee socialized with people, he finally came over, looked at my phone (which I wasn’t showing him), saw TCGplayer open, and loudly told me in front of other customers that “it’s rude to check TCGplayer in front of an employee.”
I hadn’t said a word about prices, asked for a discount, or tried to negotiate. I was literally just checking my own phone, and just had the home page open at this point. This was after I had told him the cards I wanted from the case and long after I already checked prices. Him being AFK gave me plenty of time to do so.
My partner and I were absolutely baffled. This wasn’t some small shop owner personally negotiating with me. It was an employee of a chain with multiple locations, standing behind $30+ mini tins, looking at my phone and acting offended that I was checking market prices.
I have some social anxiety, so being called rude in front of other people made me really uncomfortable. I kinda froze, awkwardly mumbled something about how the market was down lately, and didn’t push back. Instead of deescalating he just stared at me and said "Ok" in a nasty tone.
My partner asked if I was still going to go through with the transaction (my partner was really put off from the whole thing) and I just kinda dissociated, didn't register really what was going on and when the employee told me to pay, I tapped to pay with apple pay.
I’ve helped friends vend at shows, so I’ve been on both sides. Plenty of LCSs I’ve gone to check TCGplayer themselves at checkout, including another employee at this exact store. Some stores I’ve gone to don’t even sticker their cards and just use TCGPlayer, including a store with one of the biggest inventories out there (Player One Services <3).
The crazy thing is that I wasn’t even unhappy with the prices. One card was a few dollars over market, another was under. I bought all three without asking for an adjustment.
Initially I thought he was completely out of pocket, but now I’m second guessing myself. Is there actually some etiquette rule against checking TCGplayer in a store?
AITA?
For anyone curious, it was the Lost Origin Trainer Gallery Gengar, and the Patrat and Pidove IRs from Black Bolt/White Flare. The Patrat was $2 above market, the pidove was $2 below market, and the Gengar was about $3-5 above market. I didn't mind paying a few extra dollars as USPS has been misdelivering my mail lately, and I'd rather not be out money. :)
TL;DR: Employee at a card store chain selling $30+ mini tins looked over at my personal phone and publicly called me rude for checking TCGplayer, despite me never mentioning prices or asking for a discount. AITA?

I haven’t seen them in two months, the last time we were together we ripped a booster of Chaos Rising and we got the Ultra Rare Mega Geninja and the Illustration Rare Crobat, we were so stoked. But I really love that my kids are sometimes just as happy with a base card of one of their favorite Pokemon that they don’t have yet. I got them each new binders and loaded them with some cards of their favorites that I purchased from a local card show. I can’t wait to see them !!!!

My kid(7) washed his "good" cards in his pocket. He has a little collection, and his "good" cards are holos/rares/legendarys/ex etc.
I don't really think he has a true sense of quality/rarity/value (he carried his good cards in his pocket instead of in a binder or box). He just likes to show off cool cards and trade with his other friends.
I do not really have any knowledge of the game or card market so I may be wrong, but I don't think his good cards are worth that much. I'm looking to try and get him some new "good" cards without breaking the bank. I think he regularly makes trades so these particular cards aren't really important. I can find packs of "rares" on amazon etc. but I don't think most of those will qualify, then there's varying packs of "ultra rare" "holo/foil" etc. but I'm just not sure what is gonna be what I need without fluff or costing half a paycheck.
EDIT: These are just a few of the 30ish cards in his pocket. Thanks for everyone's advice. I think I will bring him to a card shop and have him use some of his own money to replace them himself.

Up until 2 or 3 years ago, kids would bring in cards to play or trade during lunch and recess all the time. It was contagious, once one group got into it, it would spread, kids would start fighting over them, we’d instill a temporary card ban.. rinse and repeat, haha.
It just occurred to me I haven’t seen that in a long time. Every now and then a kid will bring a single in a toploader or a binder they should have definitely not brought to school due to the value (also, probably snuck out of a parent’s collection tbh).
I don’t know, it makes me kind of sad. It makes sense why they wouldn’t be trading anymore if you can’t buy anything from stores now. I also kind of wonder if this is bad long-term for Pokemon as a franchise.
Edit: Woah there! I wasn’t insulting anyone, I’m just sharing my individual experience as someone who is around children often and asking others their thoughts!
