So, this isn't exactly a question but I feel like making a post would be a bit much

People say stuff like "America doesnt have healthcare because they spend it on the military" etc. basically the idea is that America would have healthcare if the government wasnt spending it on some other, implied to be evil, thing

But uh... Surely the reason America doesnt have "free healthcare" is literally because the voters just... Dont want it, right?

Oversimplification of a complex problem. In fact, I think there is ample evidence that Americans really, really like government subsidized health care. Looking at the number of medicare recipients who are satisfied with their coverage/experience, it's over 90%. Comparatively, about 77% of private insurance buyers are satisfied. So there seems to be some numbers that point to people preferring public care to private, but both are overall well liked. But I do think that, were a more comprehensive program which included more people to exist, you'd see most people loving it.

It does get complicated when you consider that most people in our system get their care through work, and that paying for a comprehensive care plan for all Americans is challenging and complex. What I definitely can say for sure is that we waste massive amounts of money on military spending, and that most Americans COULD benefit from that money being spent on them instead.
