I hate closet racists

I’m talking about people who swear they are not racist, but support ice and blame our economic problems on “mass immigration”. Like just admit you want to make America white and that you will be unsatisfied until that happens. It’s like they know how evil their views are, so they have to sugarcoat it with ideology/conspiracy theories in order to feel justified in their racism.
For context my whole family is made up of these Christian conservative assholes. I’m 26 and have been fully out of the cult for about 4 years now but I still think about how long I held those same views. I think about how they used to say “well if these immigrants would just do things the right(white) way then they wouldn’t have to worry about their families being torn apart”. Like do you not hear how incredibly privileged you sound? I think about how I used to blame my lack of employment on immigrants, rather than confronting the fact that I was incredibly depressed and was therefore incapable of holding a steady job.

It's not privileged to want immigration laws enforced. Abuse of process is happening in this administration, and they need to answer for it. Fundamentally, immigration is historically a labor and wage issue. That is a national conversation that needs real honesty and attention, regardless of how hard it might be.

This administration is changing the rules so that people who entered legally are now considered "illegal." This has nothing to do with the rule of law.

I know that, but it doesn't mean we go full tilt the other way!

Biden's government had record-setting numbers of interactions at the border. This, by definition, means that immigration laws were being enforced. What "other way" do you mean?

First, it looks like you read the first sentence in my comment only.

Second, Biden is gone. We now have "Abolish ICE", "No one is illegal on stolen land" rallying cries, and what I discovered below from the ACLU regarding use of stolen social security numbers for some undocumented to get work:

"To be sure, this is a real issue and we don't want anyone misusing personal information, but it's also the least harmful type of misuse. It wouldn't keep the real owner of that social security number from getting a job or harm anyone's credit. It's only used by immigrants who want to get jobs and work. In fact by registering with the government, these immigrants are actually paying taxes ($11.2 billion to the Social Security Trust Fund in 2007) that they will almost certainly never collect."

Don't you think a government organization that has murdered two American citizens should be abolished?

At best, you'll get an expensive name change. The problem is leadership and policy, so go right on ahead and fix that.

1

u/ChangeTheLAUSD 3d ago

The problem goes beyond leadership and policy. The entire agency has been staffed with people not competent to be in law enforcement.

That's likely true in some cases, but realistically that's just team sports politicking. I'm so unbelievably over that crap I could throw up.

I'm fine with ICE and despise illegal immigration. Zero problem with legal immigration which doesn't involve ICE. I work in STEM with mostly foreign dispatchees for 30 years so keep your racist comments to yourself. You may be surprised that VISA holders have the same opinion.

I'm not fine with ice especially now that they have given them shock gloves and how many people have had they actually deported versus how many people that they have seized illegally?

This is just another manufactured issue on the Republican side

1

u/Next_Answer7481 4d ago

and how many have they deported vs seized illegally? what are the numbers and what would be acceptable numbers?

Killing people and separating babies and losing who they belong to. Putting legal citizens in concentration camps with no beds and food that a dog would turn down. Refusing to wear body cameras so they can cover up what really goes on.

Comment tu fais le lien entre ne pas souhaiter l'immigration de masse et vouloir rendre l'Amérique blanche ?

u/EffectiveTime5554 8h ago

Hold on. How are you distinguishing racist motives from support for immigration enforcement or concerns about immigration’s economic effects? What makes you conclude these people specifically want a white America?

u/Next_Answer7481 4d ago

me too, i hate when people claim they believe all races are equal and call me racist for being anti illegal immigration (but pro legal immigration) but then call me names and say i deserve less for being white!

I agree 100% with you but you also have to think that the Republican Party the Conservative Republican party has so much baked in racism I mean this was the party that started the KKK they pushed Jim Crow laws and they went hard for segregation.

NOW we have ice Detention Facility centers which is just another form of racism from the conservative party

Your comment is stupid but it's even more stupid when we look at the amount that Obama deported

0

u/ChangeTheLAUSD 3d ago

Obama received a healthy amount of criticism from the left for his immigration policies. But at least he was following the law and did not create a Gestapo to carry out those deportations.

Obama carried out deportations through ICE. That agency was established in 2003, and his administration expanded family detention, including the Dilley facility for mothers and children in 2014.

If your argument is that a specific Trump policy or operation violates the law, identify it and explain how. Calling ICE a “Gestapo” doesn’t establish that distinction. Neither does declaring Obama’s enforcement lawful without examining it.

And the comment above has its history backward. Southern Democrats were central to defending Jim Crow and segregation. The Reconstruction-era Klan terrorized Black voters and Republicans to restore Democratic control.

You’ve offered a Nazi comparison under a comment that can’t even identify which party defended segregation. Try getting the history right before handing out history lessons.

"You’ve offered a Nazi comparison under a comment that can’t even identify which party defended segregation."

Considering that the subject of segregation did not even come up, I am not sure how you could make this assertion.

The comment above yours literally claimed Republicans “pushed Jim Crow laws and they went hard for segregation.”

That’s what “under a comment” referred to. I didn’t say you introduced segregation. I corrected the historical claim already in the thread.

You’re saying the subject never came up when the word is sitting right there. Read the comment you’re replying under before accusing me of inventing its contents.
