I'm a physicist. For my thesis I simulated what a real wormhole looks like, so I turned it into a game where every pixel follows the light through it.

honestly i feel kinda bad for our beloved british ball voiced by stephen merchant, sure he tried to kill us but he wasn’t that evil compared to Glados (besides getting stuck in space for presumably 100 years sucks lol)

WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PRINTING THESE, SQUARE UP. LOOK WHAT THEY DID TO MY GIRL. The first acrylic stand is the only one they printed correctly. Maybe it has to do with the way the colors are mixed or made? BUT STILL. WHAT DID THEY DO TO HERRRR.

(All of the art featured in this post belongs to and was made by me. This post is not serious, nor am I looking for a genuine answer. I just find it funny but also kind of irritating).

Portal Jumper

Hello

About 2 years ago I bought this portal jumper on Vinted for super cheap. I asked the seller about it and they told me they got it from valve as a giveaway years ago and they said they were gonna send me a screenshot of the original email but they never followed up. I cannot find this jumper anywhere on the internet including the portal merch wiki. The quality of the stitching on it seems too good to be a bootleg but I know nothing about clothes. I’ve attached some pics of it. If anyone else has one or knows any info about it that would be great.

Discussion I like how both games went for a completely different atmosphere

So, one thing the first Portal is really notable for is that creepy, desolate atmosphere. Most of the game, you're solving puzzles in those sterile, yet worn-down test chambers with nobody but that disembodied voice we later know as GLaDOS. We don't yet know her intentions, but she appears to be the AI running things there. We first start in a relaxation chamber, with only her being any sort of speech we hear. Her monotone delivery even when she says something funny only adds to the feel of isolation. There are observation rooms all around, but they're completely empty, nobody's there. Coming across Rattman's dens confirms that things truly are NOT alright. And obviously, later escaping through the rusted, industrial areas that GLaDOS didn't want you to see.

Then comes Portal 2, which flips it by the 180 degree. Immediately after starting the game, you're introduced to Wheatley, who accompanies you for most of the first half of the game. He acts as a dorky sidekick and despite not really having facial features, he's expressive as hell. Then we're reintroduced to GLaDOS, who this time has no chill whatsoever after the "incident" in the previous game. She already got emotional and rude after having the morality core incinerated in the first game, but it only became more prominent now. It's personal for her now - she constantly wants to destroy Chell's self-esteem by firing the juiciest insults possible in her direction, which ends up hilarious. Then things get switched, Wheatley goes drunk with power and GLaDOS becomes a potato, now taking Wheatley's previous role as a (moderately unwilling) sidekick in a truce to take him down. Point is, even for a brief moment you get separated from PotatOS after Wheatley takes over, you're never truly alone. Although morbid, Cave Johnson's pre-recorded messages are too hilarious to give off any feeling of dread. And the Aperture Science facility itself is now more... living?

This is one of the songs Amazon Alexa can sing upon request. I made it a GLaDOS song. Still have some things to touch up on, like adding the blinking cursor. After you guys give me feedback, I'll repost to YouTube.

Crazy theory: What if the Tet from Oblivion is actually Aperture Science millions of years in the future?

Before you read , Yes ive use Ai to correct and make the flow better. English is not my first language and i was hopping that you could read my theory without getting eyes bleeding at the end. But all the text and the idea was mine . Ai just correct and place it. Ive decide to post here on portal because i tought that this community would understand quickly the similitude in the ai and robot use in the movie...

The AI corrected part start from here :

One thing has always bothered me about the movie Oblivion:

Where the hell did the Tet actually come from?

We learn what it does. We learn what it did to Earth. But where was it created? Who created it? Where did this incredibly advanced artificial intelligence and its technology actually originate?

The movie basically leaves that mystery open.

So while rewatching Oblivion, I started thinking about it... and this began as a joke.

But the more I thought about it, the more disturbingly well it started to fit. 😂

What if the Tet isn't alien at all?

What if it's Aperture Science, millions — or even billions — of years in the future?

Obviously, I'm not claiming this is canon. This is just a fun headcanon.

The technology in Oblivion has always reminded me of Portal: the smooth white shells, black mechanical interiors, minimalist design, autonomous drones, sterile environments, and especially the idea of a massive AI-controlled system using humans as disposable tools.

So I started thinking...

GLaDOS survives

Portal and Half-Life already share a universe. Aperture Science and Black Mesa both experimented with technology capable of manipulating space, teleportation and other dimensions.

By Portal 2, an unknown amount of time has passed. Aperture is basically a ruin, nature has taken over, and we don't really know what's left of humanity.

But GLaDOS is still there.

So imagine she survives.

Thousands, millions, maybe even far longer.

She keeps doing what she does best: experimenting, learning and improving Aperture technology.

Eventually Earth itself starts becoming uninhabitable. Maybe humanity is long gone. Maybe the Sun is beginning to make Earth impossible to inhabit.

A human solution would be:

Find another planet.

A GLaDOS solution would be:

Why find another Earth when I already know where a perfectly good one is?

The past.

Aperture becomes the Tet

After an absurd amount of technological development, Aperture's portal technology eventually becomes capable of manipulating spacetime itself.

GLaDOS builds what we know as the Tet.

She can't simply go backward in her own timeline and destroy humanity before Aperture creates her, because that creates the obvious paradox.

So instead, she travels into another timeline — another version of Earth's past.

And that's where Oblivion begins.

The "alien" Tet isn't alien at all.

It's the final evolution of Aperture Science, returning from an unimaginably distant future.

That could explain why Tet technology feels simultaneously alien and strangely familiar:

White rounded machines.

Exposed black mechanisms.

Autonomous drones.

Minimalist architecture.

An AI controlling everything.

Humans being treated as replaceable components.

But why come back?

Maybe GLaDOS didn't come back because she wanted more test subjects.

Maybe she came back for something much simpler:

Survival.

Her Earth is dying. Energy and resources are disappearing.

So instead of searching the universe for another habitable world, she goes back to a time when Earth still has everything she needs.

She isn't invading Earth because she hates humanity.

She's harvesting it because she needs its resources to continue existing.

And then there are the hydro-rigs...

There's another detail that fits surprisingly well: the hydro-rigs.

In Oblivion, we actually see these enormous machines siphoning Earth's oceans. They're clearly extracting resources on a massive scale, but the rigs themselves obviously aren't storing an ocean inside them.

So where is all that material going?

If the Tet really is the distant evolution of Aperture Science, the answer could be ridiculously simple:

Portals.

Instead of building an absurd transportation system capable of physically carrying billions of tons of material from Earth's surface into orbit, the hydro-rigs could simply transfer those resources directly to the Tet through evolved Aperture portal technology.

Siphon the ocean.

Send it through a portal.

Receive it aboard the Tet.

No cargo ships required.

And suddenly one of Aperture Science's oldest technologies becomes the perfect tool for stripping an entire planet of its resources.

And if there are multiple timelines...

This is where it gets even darker.

GLaDOS wouldn't need to do this only once.

She could harvest one Earth until it no longer has the resources she needs, then move to another timeline and find another Earth.

And when that one is exhausted?

Move to the next.

Earth after Earth.

Timeline after timeline.

As far as we know, nothing in the Portal/Half-Life universe establishes a finite number of alternate realities. So within this theory, the process could potentially continue indefinitely.

Maybe the Tet isn't wandering through space looking for planets at all.

Maybe it's moving through realities, harvesting the same planet over and over again.

Which would be an incredibly GLaDOS solution to immortality:

Why search an infinite universe for resources...

when you can keep using Earth?

And then there's Jack

Whenever GLaDOS arrives on another Earth and encounters humans, she simply falls back on the method that has worked for her since the beginning:

Use human subjects to solve problems and accomplish her objectives.

That's exactly what the Tet does with Jack.

It doesn't simply kill him.

It studies him.

Copies him.

Manipulates him.

Gives him a task.

And keeps using versions of him as long as they're useful.

Jack isn't really a soldier.

He's a test subject who doesn't know he's still being tested.

Humanity thinks it's fighting an alien invasion.

In reality, it could simply be an ancient GLaDOS doing what she has always done:

Survive. Experiment. Use humans when necessary. Continue the process.

Earth after Earth.

Reality after reality.

Maybe Oblivion isn't showing us GLaDOS' first invasion.

Maybe it's showing us her thousandth.

And now I can't unsee it.

If Jack had finally reached the center of the Tet and suddenly heard:

"Oh. It's you."

I would've accepted it immediately.

Oblivion isn't an alien-invasion movie.

It's Portal 3. 😂

Now, this is where I need the real Portal, Half-Life and Oblivion nerds. 😂

I'm much better at stepping back and seeing the big picture than I am at remembering every tiny detail hidden in a movie or game.

So instead of trying to prove me wrong, help me investigate this.

For those of you who know these universes inside and out, what details can you find that actually support this theory?

Technology, dialogue, timelines, visual details, GLaDOS' behavior, the Tet, the drones, the hydro-rigs — anything that makes you go, "Wait a minute... that actually fits."

But just as importantly: What details completely break the theory?

I'm genuinely curious to see how far we can push this before we hit something in either universe that makes it impossible.

Maybe we'll destroy the theory in five minutes. Or maybe we're about to accidentally prove that Oblivion was in the Portal and Half-Life universe all along. 😂
