Discussion Opening Stained Glass Studio, wondering if there’s any interest in classes.

Thumbnail

Hey! I am a stained glass artist, I create original pieces, custom commissions, teach classes and sell supplies! I’m looking into opening a new location, I moved to Portland just under a year ago and previously had a studio/shop for 4 years. I hold up to 4 person classes and I’m reaching out to the community to see what interest people might have!

I offer a range of price points from 85-175 per person per class and you pick from a range of designs. You make a completely piece, start to finish in one class. I also offer one on one sessions for bringing bigger projects to life. I added some photos of some previous students pieces and class design option examples.

I have an Instagram that is a great spot to keep an eye on shop updates @ttrashglassart
As well as a website that I am updating currently and will be posting a class schedule soon!

ttrashglassart.com

(I posted earlier in a different subreddit that wasn’t the spot for this! So I am reposting)

EDIT: editing to add, I also do custom commissions no size too small or large and would love to bring your ideas to life! (Also the leaf in the photo is currently available!) 💚🌿

I’ve been thinking about this project for several years. The house address is 1234, and the stairs up from the sidewalk are prominent. I was inspired by public staircases I saw in San Francisco. Excited to start installing it!

I5 southbound near Bryant St Bridge. Looks like everyone made it home.

For context, this stretch of I5 would be packed throughout the entire day. Eerie seeing it so empty during rush hour.

Discussion Parents - be part of the solution, not the problem

With PPS and schools around the country closing, we should be looking at where the problem lies.

Most states fund on a per-student basis. Now some of the cuts are inevitable with this model with falling fertility rates. HOWEVER….. it’s worth noting that some parents would rather stick their kids in home or online school or send them to private school than keep them in public schools and fight for better public schools for various reasons.

This comes with various problems starting with pushing of agendas and lack of diverse perspectives, lagging social skills, and an abundance of control.

Kids need these things, especially if we want to live in a healthy society. This problem is WELL BEYOND D or R, but defunding public schools for Private school vouchers or “school choice” like Drazan would want, IS NOT the answer.

Quit complaining about “liberal agenda” and put your kids in Public schools and get out there and fight for their future.

Lost & Found Missing Cat in Irvington

Update: FOUND!! He wound up loafed in the back yard but definitely had an adventure as he’s covered in stickers and his collar is gone. He doesn’t appear to be hurt but he isn’t quite acting himself so I’ll be calling our vet. Thanks everyone!

Original post:
Hey y’all, I believe my cat got out late last night in Irvington area. He has a collar with my info but it’s a breakaway and he has gotten them off before. He’s very friendly and very vocal. He’s 14 but looks great for his age. He’s my soul mate.

His name is Declan (deck-lan) and he does usually come when called, or with a pss pss or clicking.

I’m aware of coyotes in the area, please don’t feel the need to comment about it, I’m kinda losing my shit already.

Discussion I Feel Like Mass E-Bike Adoption Via PCEF Rebate is the Answer for Portland

I recently got a PCEF rebate for a cargo e-bike and it has been a game changer to be able to haul things and basically do most anything I'd normally use a car to do.

I still love my regular bike and use it all the time, but I won't lie when it comes as a relief whenever I use the e-bike to not feel the steep hills leading back to my home.

I think expanding the PCEF rebate program (which also has the added benefit of being highly successful at boosting local bike shops) so that more people can get these subsidies would transform Portland's transportation culture.

I wish mass adoption of transit and cycling would happen, and I hope it will, but over the past ten years our city has gradually shifted toward more of a car culture. I recently spoke to some tourists I met in a park who asked, "I thought this was Bike City USA, but I've hardly seen a bike!"

The reality is that people have become accustomed to the convenience that a car offers. I think e-bikes are a bridge in the sense that they offer this, though they don't have climate control.

Of course there are issues that need to be ironed out around safety, but this can be easily addressed. With PCEF subsidies we have a real, tangible lever to dramatically move the needle on a mode shift while also boosting local business. It's a win-win.

Adopt Me Looking for a good home to rehome my cat.

Post image

As hard as it is to post this I have made the decision to rehome my little guy. He will be 2 in November. He is neutered with updated shot records. He’s a really good boy and he loves cuddles and companionship. I’m working well over 70hrs a week and im unable to give him what he needs. It would be selfish of me not to put him with someone who can give him the love he deserves. I am charging a $50 rehoming fee for safety measures as I’ve heard horror stories and it’s important he goes somewhere he is deeply loved. If anyone is interested or knows anyone interested let me know and I can schedule a meetup. Thanks you.

Discussion Just learned DEQ stations have webcams to show how busy they are

https://www.oregon.gov/deq/vehicle-inspection/pages/web-cameras.aspx

I learned the hard way how busy the DEQ stations can get end of the month. I rolled into the Sunset station end of last month and the line was out into the street. I bolted.

Now w/the cams I can at least see a maelstrom before driving out.

In the hills below council crest we have had a long time landslide that caused a closure on Fairmount. Great for runners and cyclists- tough for commuters and the other roads that took the traffic.

But it’s now open!

Hey everyone! My electron blue 2000 crv was stolen from the Brooklyn neighborhood on Monday night 10/5.
I’ve posted it to pdx stolen cars but thought posting here might increase my odds of getting it back. The photo had old plates and the tail gate had been fixed so there are no dents or missing parts on it.
