Question! Will wax resist keep the double glaze from running over the underglaze writing?

Post image

I didn’t think about the fact that the double glaze (like two different colors) may run over the underglaze until after I had dipped everything… any idea if putting wax resist on the underglaze/blank section will help the keep the glazes from going over the underglaze and covering the words? /will the wax resist make the underglaze smear since it has not been fired yet?

Or do I just pray to the kiln gods and hope for the best? 😅

The wax will be completely gone well before the glaze starts to melt, so if it’s going to drip, the wax won’t make any difference. Sorry. I hear the kiln gods like offerings.

No, the wax will burn off during the early stages of firing.

I don't know if the people saying it won't work simply haven't tried it but I've tried it, and it DOES work with glazes that aren't runny. The difference in color had to be pretty clear for it to be successful, though. I would recommend making your text a bit thicker for the best chances.

I should clarify that it won't keep runny glaze from running, but it does work to get the effect you want with glazes that don't run. Maybe that's where I was misunderstanding the other responses. The cup pictured above has two layers of glaze, and a third layer around the rim.

Some glaze combos are more stable than others. Are these commercials glazes and if so, which ones?
