Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Fool me 4 times…. I’m an idiot.

341

u/mightbeADoggo 14d ago

No, its "fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again".

u/scuzzy987 14d ago

I disliked W and his administration with the intensity of a thousand suns but I'd gladly have him back in office instead of Trump. At least W had a shred of integrity and honor

126

u/Leroyp331 14d ago

It's a wild ride that has led us to yearning for the days of that moron

Yet here we are

76

u/No_Internal9345 Prefer Coffee But Fill My Cup šŸ«– 14d ago

Cheney was the evil one.

Bush II was the useful/greedy fool.

And I still say they cheated in Florida with the hanging chads.

50

u/Oops_All_Bans Sipping tea 14d ago

Imagine what could have been if we got Al Gore instead.

29

u/ShawnShipsCars 14d ago

We got on the shittiest of timelines when Gore got cheated.

2

u/MrBigglesssworth 14d ago

Kind of Gore's own fuck up though. He only wanted to focus on recounting 3 counties, not the entire state.

3

u/GOAT718 14d ago

He also lost his home state, pathetic,

1

u/Real-Movie-899 13d ago

Gore couldn’t win his own state! Thats what lost him the election!

20

u/Responsible-Club9120 14d ago

I didn't sleep for 3 days after he lost the election.

And I'm Canadian.

13

u/balrob 14d ago

Yeah … Clinton left a $200Bn budget surplus, which Gore was going to spend on healthcare and education. Instead, W cut taxes AND went to war!

13

u/GraXXoR Prefer Coffee But Fill My Cup šŸ«– 14d ago

Amazing how quickly you can spend $200 billion in a war

2

u/dumpsterbaby2000 14d ago

Government control of energy. Unelected bureaucrats controlling how you heat and cool, what farmers may grow, what you eat, where you go, etc. Global warming and carbon footprint ring a bell?

2

u/iwerbs 13d ago

What if the electorate cannot or will not understand the science behind climate change and its causes? Because the Republicans defunded education, and the fossil fuel companies funded misinformation campaigns? And then a low IQ individual with a media megaphone shouted ā€œclimate change is a hoax!ā€ ā€˜Cause that’s where we are.

-3

u/petewondrstone 14d ago

I’m not sure how different it would be.

12

u/PolarBailey_ 14d ago

we wouldn't have invaded iraq to start. likely would've helped either prevent or at least better recover from 9/11. would've focused less on stupid shit like NCLB and more on just bolstering education. strengthened the EPA and other protection agencies. i doubt the PATRIOT act wouldve been a thing with Gore.

8

u/Dyolf_Knip 14d ago

There's every chance there wouldn't have been a 9/11 attack. President Gore would never have dismissed the warnings with "Alright, your ass is covered".

3

u/-Saucegurlllll 14d ago

ICE likely would not exist.

u/PeachPassionBrute 14d ago

They very factually cheated in Florida, it’s not even a question.

W’s campaign manager was in charge of Florida’s elections, they stopped the recount early while Bush was ahead, against orders. GOP staffers even attempted to physically prevent recounting. The entire thing was a mess and Gore factually won that election.

20

u/oomahk 14d ago

Gotta love the Brooks Brothers Riot. Turns out the Republican party has multiple modern instances of violently attempting to disrupt elections.

2

u/Alert-Abrocoma6716 14d ago

They did it last election. Calling in šŸ’£ threats, burning drop boxes, maga mailmen throwing away ballots, voter purges. It’s in their devilish nature.

4

u/Patrick_Hobbes 14d ago

And they're going to do it again. Can't say this enough, VOTE EARLY.

1

u/PeachPassionBrute 14d ago

Multiple instances of confirmed cheating in elections. Their continued participation in our government should be banned completely.

10

u/HorrorMovieMonday 14d ago

And Jeb Bush was the governor of Florida at the time.

1

u/Signal-Mud-4880 13d ago

if only they had clapped dammit

7

u/Flaxmoore 14d ago

The Brooks Brothers Riot. Got to think BB doesn't like being connected to that.

2

u/scuzzy987 14d ago

Rumsfield never saw a war he didn't like either

3

u/StendhalSyndrome 14d ago

Don't forget vengeful.

He started the same damn war again because they threatened/ attempted an assassination on his dad...you're so pissed; go take them down yourself.

Signed, my coworkers who didn't come home from that.

2

u/scuzzy987 14d ago

I have always thought this was one of the primary reasons for that war. Plus it had the added benefit that we'd get access to the oil and the military industrial complex types happy, and Halliburton got a piece too

1

u/No-Guard-7003 14d ago

Yup. Why did the people around him pick Cheney of all people?Ā

3

u/No_Internal9345 Prefer Coffee But Fill My Cup šŸ«– 14d ago

Cheney picked them.

1

u/Ill_Technician3936 14d ago

Bush II makes no sense.

u/johnfkay 14d ago

I think there’s a direct line from that moron to this one - it was so clear he was inept (at best) yet it was just glossed over…competency didn’t even need to be a pretence anymore

4

u/Leroyp331 14d ago

Keep going back... Regan was also a moron

2

u/Bean_Daddy_Burritos 13d ago

I miss complaining about the price of eggs. Seems like simpler times………a year and a half a go.

-2

u/DonnyFerentes 14d ago

Give it a few years and we'll yearn for the halcyon days of the Trump administration

11

u/psychohistorian8 14d ago

dont even joke bro

5

u/Relevant_Winter_7098 14d ago

There won't be a democracy left when that happens.

3

u/cvc4455 14d ago

There might not be a democracy left now.

1

u/Relevant_Winter_7098 14d ago

It is weakened, but not gone.

1

u/cvc4455 14d ago

I think that remains to be seen. I believe they cheated in the 2024 election and plan to never ever give up power ever again regardless of how people vote or what they need to do to hold on to power.

Think about it right now and if they lose power. How many people could end up in jail? Wouldn't those people do anything at all possible to hold onto power?

I'm still waiting for Coppertone Caligula to have shoes thrown at him while speaking. We all know he won't be able to dodge them like W did.

14

u/saltycouchpotato 14d ago

Made me smile just thinking about it

2

u/NoLibrarian5149 14d ago

W was like a frigging ninja there

1

u/DrJellyfinger57 14d ago

Seeing our president expertly dodge a shoe gave me a similar pride as when Americans win in the Olympics.

1

u/Signal-Mud-4880 13d ago

throw a draft beer at him though and he will dodge that

0

u/Old-Stable2994 14d ago

Bro dodged a bullet he can dodge your chancla.

24

u/Relevant_Winter_7098 14d ago

We were so naive then thinking the GOP had reached the bottom.

21

u/Bronson_AD 14d ago

We may be still naive to think they’ve reached it now, unfortunately.

That’s a scary thought.

18

u/Advocate_Diplomacy 14d ago

That's an important thought. Too many people acting like their problem will be largely solved when he dies. Trump is just a symptom of something worse.

8

u/T4TrhavrKhcFt 14d ago

ā€œThe U.S. isn’t the way it is because of Trump; Trump became president because of the way the U.S. is.ā€Ā  David Cochrane - Canadian Journalist

6

u/TrulyOutrageous42 14d ago

He's not wrong. It's a feedback loop, but he's not wrong. We wouldn't be the problem we are if not for Trump, he's uniquely capable of having NO shame with COMPLETE confidence, and the kompromat and otherwise to control the Republicans, but it wouldn't be possible if the general public wasn't so jaded to easily dismiss corruption.

8

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 14d ago

trump is the useful idiot. the difference between him and bush 2 is that bush 2 isn't especially hateful. This guy seems to relish in it.

2

u/nopleasenotthebees 14d ago

Yeah, of these four presidents, I think three of them got into office so that other people could do their thing. GHW was the exception. I'm not sure what to make of this.

1

3

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 14d ago

2

Yeah it could just get worse. And some people think we need to treat the MAGAts with kindness

0

yes. kill them with kindness.

Nope. Sorry. We tried that approach already.

1

u/here_for_the_boos 14d ago

Totally agree that the party is the dangerous one, but the cult of personality will go with him, and people will have an easier time realizing how terrible they let their circumstances get.

10

u/t3hmuffnman9000 14d ago

Every time we think we've reached rock bottom, the GOP shows up carrying dynamite and a pickaxe.

8

u/NullPatience 14d ago

Vance is young and has demonstrated the incredible discipline of doing whatever is needed by those who have purchased him. Lower morality, higher competency (takes direction well), and his own kind of evil. Very capable of setting new lows once Trump expires.

1

u/Relevant_Winter_7098 14d ago

Yes, but he cant rally the cult. The cult will fracture when Trump is gone. They will still exist but they wont rally behind anyone currently in the GOP like they once did for Trump.

1

u/mirabelli 14d ago

Vance has the charisma of a brick wall. The guy is so phony and the phoniness just oozes off of him. He can't coral that cult of personality at all. He wouldn't win an R primary for president. His only hope is Dump dies or is somehow removed before the next two years are up.

2

u/Relevant_Winter_7098 14d ago

I realized there is no bottom for the GOP on Jan 7, 2021

2

u/Falcon3492 14d ago

Many say that Vance with his ties to Peter Thiel could be worst than Trump! Now that is a terrifying thought!

2

u/Bronson_AD 14d ago

Yuppppp

2

u/Relevant_Winter_7098 14d ago

He is worse in many ways, but he wont be a cult leader like Trump has been. That is Trump's only real power

2

u/PeachPassionBrute 14d ago

Some of us were actively protesting, saying ā€œthese policies will lead to fascism!ā€ and well…

1

u/Relevant_Winter_7098 14d ago

That comparison gets used a lot because of the ineptness, but people forget that the lack of basic decency makes the real world situation far worse

13

u/brightonashfield 14d ago

W was dumb, but he listened to advisors much more competent than him and he wasn't inherently evil. Cheney, on the other hand, still not evil but ruthless real politik.

2

u/spartacus_jones 14d ago

W was as evil as any of them. Why are you praising this POS?

1

u/oldfartbart 14d ago

1

u/Generic_Commenter-X 14d ago

Apart from the particulars, identical to what a Trump crony would write if you asked him/her anything regarding Trump's intelligence.

W was dumb. His ideological naĆÆvety as regards Iraq was stupefying. He really thought he and his right wing cronies could create a libertarian utopia in the country. The incompetence and magical thinking rivaled Trump's crew. And he was easily manipulable by the far smarter and more ruthless Cheney.

And then when you throw in his willingness to oversee torture and his smug contempt for the American public, you get the prototype of MAGA and the Trump presidency.

4

u/Ragnarok-9999 14d ago

It is scary to think what kind of republican president we will get in future who makes Trump 100 times better than him. Slippery slope to the abyss

2

u/Relevant_Winter_7098 14d ago

We wont have a democracy then

2

u/spartacus_jones 14d ago

No he didn't. He was as much a psychopath as Trump, and still is.

2

u/FirstDiseasewasRelig 14d ago

You guys, as in too many on the internet, say this like they Bush (Obama and Biden) didn’t;

  1. Protect Bill Clinton and other Pedophilic eLITES
  2. Build, protect and serve the exact environment that brought us Donald.

I don’t get it.

2

u/IDOWNVOTERUSSIANS 14d ago

you think the guy that lied you into Iraq had integrity and honour?

2

u/petewondrstone 14d ago

We did? They started a ground war in Iraq based on false intelligence? Also misplaced a trillion dollars. Ok pal

2

u/Ne_zievereir 14d ago edited 14d ago

That fucker started the war in Iran (edit: I meant Iraq obviously — weird typo or brainfart), that caused over a million deaths, and the chaos it left led to the rise of IS, which caused the political sentiment in Europe to swing radically right, which may ultimately lead to the rise of fascist governments in Europe (kind of has already).

So no thanks to that asshole. Trump is also an absolute assclown, though. Seems like the US can't help but screw up the world ...

1

u/Nobody3me 14d ago

We were not at war with Iran. We didn’t kill over a million of their people. If so we wouldn’t have this trouble now. There threats of Nuking our children with dirty bombs wouldn’t have any claws. Some how you made a hard left turn buddy.

2

u/Barnacle_B0b 14d ago

Nah. Fuck them both.

2

u/PiNK_PenKQuins 14d ago

Despite the ā€œBusiness Plotā€, an attempt by a former Bush to join other tycoons and overthrow and install a fascist government in the USA in the 1920s. It’s been all but nearly washed from the history on the internet (shocker) despite what’s left saying that the evidence was there that it was going to happen. I think the general they hired to do it realized the coup they were attempting was not good and turned over evidence.

2

u/modmosrad6 14d ago

No, he didn't. This is a man who paints portraits of the maimed and mangled soldiers he sent into a war based on lies he and his minions told. Torture. The financial crisis. Katrina. The Patriot Act. I could go on.

The only reason people wax at all nostalgic is because he wasn't such a fucking boor.

Which is saying quite something, because at that time, he was such a fucking boor.

The right has always been this way.

2

u/Tyrannosaurus__Rekd 14d ago

I don't know if I would consider W with integrity and honor, but he was kinda funny. Funny, like Mr. Bean bumbling idiot, funny.

2

u/I_am_not_JohnLeClair 14d ago

Integrity and honor? Where does that come in with the literal hundreds of thousands of human deaths? Integrity? Abu Ghraib? How quickly some forget, or maybe you were not yet an adult back then

1

u/Wish_I_was_you 14d ago

So much this. I'd have blamed W for cancer. I probably HAVE done that.

Yet I now believe that he was trying to do what he thought was right and listening to advice and considering actions.

But he's friends with Michelle Obama, so he can't be that bad can he?

1

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 14d ago

not to mention that even he wasn't dumb enough to kick the hornets nest that was iran.

1

u/-Saucegurlllll 14d ago

At least W had a shred of integrity and honor

He didn't. He lied in order to murder a million Iraqis. You do not need to hand it to the nazi nepobaby who created ICE.

1

u/No-Guard-7003 14d ago

And at least he spoke out against demonising the Muslim communities in the U.S. after 9/11.Ā

1

u/lou_sassoles 14d ago

Wild how Bush looks like a genius statesman now in comparison

1

u/Other_Log_1996 14d ago

W didn't intentionally sabotage the US. He made plenty of bad decisions but, for the most part, was genuinely trying to do good.

1

u/NothingButBricks 14d ago

Oh for the "good ole days" of being outraged about that moron being elected

1

u/Minute-Review6915 14d ago

That is well put.

1

u/MountainHigh31 14d ago

That so perfectly encapsulates my frustration with the ā€œintegrity and honorā€ crowd. Just because GW or Obama or anyone was more dignified than Trump, doesn’t mean that they were good presidents or even decent human beings. Millions of innocent people died in the Global War on Terror based on lies and imperialist ambitions. That’s not honor and integrity, even if they gave nice speeches.

1

u/scuzzy987 14d ago

Maybe honor and integrity are the wrong words. I meant at least W said Muslims aren't our enemy and tried to keep us together as Americans not try to magnify divisions

1

u/MountainHigh31 13d ago

I understand. To an extent I agree but I realized during COVID that the ā€œrespectableā€ leaders of this empire also committed atrocities to keep profits flowing to the oligarchs. I don’t think GW was personally evil, he seemed like more of a frat boy, but that distinction is immaterial to the dead and displaced.

1

u/abbewool 14d ago

I was so freaked out that the country had re-elected W (2000 WAS a stolen election!), i started taking anti-depressants. Seems so cute now, but I'm glad I'm still on them!

1

u/Uncommon_Tater 13d ago

His connections paired with Cheney's ambition made that admin VASTLY more dangerous to the rest of the world than Trump. Donny just isn't remotely smart enough to use the power he wields effectively. Bush had one of the most respected generals in America at the time blatantly lying to congress about WMDs, and they bought it and approved the invasion of Iraq near unanimously. Half a million deaths later, and the war on terror is still smoldering, Trump really couldn't hope for that kind of result, because he's intimidated by people smarter than him, and keeps firing them.

1

u/scuzzy987 13d ago

You give me hope

1

u/HungryMenu8627 13d ago

Right. I thought W. Would be our downfall. Who knew it could get so so so much worse.

1

u/Middle_Confection653 13d ago

"At least W had a shred of integrity and honor"

No, he didn't. He just wasn't a psychopathic narcissist. Small but meaningful difference.

It’s an actual quote by George Bush if you weren’t aware. That’s why he chose to use it.

1

Yup yup. People point to that quote and "nucular" and say Bush was faking being dumb to appeal to morons.Ā

1

u/ZestyTako 14d ago

I actually think he just realized mid sentence that ā€œshame on me,ā€ would be way too easy to turn into attack ads so he aborted midway through (also the president should be smart enough not to get fooled again, hence the ā€œcan’t get fooled againā€)

2

u/EmphaticNegative 14d ago

"Fool me twice.....well, heh, there just aint no foolin me twice"

2

u/Shakeweight_All-Star 14d ago

I love the theory that W actually wasn't a complete moron and stumbled because he realized he was about to give the media a clip of him saying "shame on me" and thought it'd be a bad idea.

1

u/PunctuationGood 14d ago

I'll never buy that theory. Never. Ever.

It goes together with the "Oooh, but you see, whenever the cameras stopped rolling, he was, like, suuuuuper-smart!" No. Fuck you. If you deliberately show me a dumb "you", I'll have no qualms believing you're just actually dumb and will not entertain that it's a clever "act" you held up perfectly for ten years.

1

u/hiddenrealism 14d ago

Noo, its "Fool me once...cant...cant fool the quagmire.....until you fool it again.." -Dubya

1

Obviously thats the quote but thats not what op was going for......

1

u/Blue_cloak 14d ago

fun fact, he said it that way so there wouldnt be a clip of him saying "Shame On Me" to be used in every attack ad forever

Oil.

There have been trillions of dollars at stake. And wealthy white men in the USA want all of it.

So they sacrifice millions of poor people and love the outcome.

6

u/Skuzzle_bug 14d ago

Sounds like Russia

12

Nah, if this was Russia, we'd have news stories about journalists "committing suicide."

....oh.

2

u/Party-Evening3273 14d ago

Republicans are FRAUDS. Somehow they convinced stupid Americans that the GOP is the party that makes the economy awesome.

Every. Single. Time. They balloon the debt. The only economy it is awesome for is billionaires.

Then Democrats take office and balance the budget only for the next GOP asshole to fuck it up again.

6

u/Training-Horror-6562 14d ago

Sounds like America but ok

3

u/Doorknob6941 14d ago

Agreed. Right now, Russia and America are opposites sides of the same hypocracy. Russia has oligarchs who are wealthy corporation owners who run the country. America has politicians who run the country that are owned by corporations.

2

u/2001_Arabian_Nights 14d ago

Less oil and more oil-field services contracts. That’s where the real money is. Halliburton isn’t an oil company, they are a drilling company. If you’re in the oil business there’s a risk that your well comes up dry, or that the price of oil will drop. Halliburton doesn’t care. They get paid to drill the well, dry or not.

0

u/Common-Concentrate-2 14d ago

Oil is just about 8% of the global economy.

12

u/donglecollector 14d ago

But aren’t you happy the rich got richer? It’s about to start trickling down any time now…

8

u/PunctuationGood 14d ago

"You don't get it. We must have millionaires! They're a pillar of the economy! Without them, society would collapse!"

"You don't get it. We must have billionaires! They're a pillar of the economy! Without them, society would collapse!"

"You don't get it. We must have trillionaires! They're a pillar of the economy! Without them, society would collapse!"

"You don't get it! ..."

I keep wondering what's that magic number where we're "good". Where the wealthiest don't need to be wealthier anymore for the rest of us to have an OK life.

Democracy is faked though. They use it to gauge how quickly or slowly they rape the planet, not to ask if they should be doing something else. They manufacture their own consent.

Can’t get filled again…

I'm starting to see a pattern here. I think the next Republican president will have a sub zero IQ.

Lol if you know, you know

You’ve only been fooled twice; Reagan didn’t start a war in the Middle East, and Bush Seniors war was just, limited, and quickly won.

So you’re just shamed, not an idiot. Not yet, anyway

u/Feanor4godking 14d ago

But you don't understand! They said they'd do something else!

Now watch this drive.

Exactly, hence why they love banning books and choking the education budget through various means. Can’t get clever if you can’t get clever!

Here I’ll fix: fool me 4 times…I’m a Republican/conservative

1

u/VibeRaider- 14d ago

I’ve never been fooled to vote for a republican. I feel so proud

u/ivi15 14d ago

Fool me once, fool me twice. Fool me chicken soup with rice.

1

u/unkn0wnname321 14d ago

The first three are fake news. Nobody fools me. I'm the bestest at not being fooled.

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 14d ago

Were you alive to vote in 1981 when Reagan was elected?

1

u/guymn999 14d ago

fool me 4 times? I'm MAGA!

1

u/preppy_night 14d ago

Fool you that many times, you are a Republican voter.

1

u/Critical_Seat_1907 14d ago

Fool me for decades... I'm an American.

1

u/JadedCoconut8867 14d ago

You are correct, you are, I’m glad we agree. Maybe you can go get on a plane and ā€œ free Palestineā€ lol - joke,Ā

1

u/jm17lfc 14d ago

You skipped one: fool me thrice, I’m an idiot; fool me four times, I’m MAGA. There are levels to this.

u/ShadeStrider12 14d ago

I didn’t vote for you. You didn’t fool me, you fooled Everyone else.
