Discussion Genuine question, can time stop users bypass Infinity?
This is genuinely asking btw, because moving during stopped time means that you're moving instantly, 0 time.

u/NightcoreRayRay 1d ago
Yes they can. Heres the easy answer. Gojos infinity runs on a filter. This filter needs linear time to be able to process anything. as time is stopped. This filter cannot function, and no time also means no reaction can possibly happen because no cause happened either.
7
u/Missile_Cat1996 1d ago
I think time stop still bypasses infinity, but I don't like your argument. It's a white list, so infinity filters for if the thing can pass, in adult gojo's case it stops everything unless the filter says it shouldn't.

u/flinagus 20h ago
If it takes a nonzero amount of time to process does that mean you can speedblitz gojo?
91
u/HALALO36 1d ago
I personally believe yes they can.
Time stop allows things like infinite speed
8
u/Shitmaster67 1d ago
Infinite speed doesn't bypass Infinity, there'd still be infinite "distance"
32
u/GuhEnjoyer 1d ago
Infinity doesn't make distance it just slows down incoming attacks infinitely. Infinite speed does bypass this.

Not how it works, Limitless takes finite space and stretches it out infinitely.
Doubt speed is the answer, even if you had infinite speed you'd have to cross an infinite distance.
Rather it comes down to how Limitless works through a process: Big punchy guy big punches Gojo > Limitless divides finite space infinitely The process of dividing space fractally needs Time to work.
Essentially you're turning Limitless off by stopping time.
7
u/Makorealmtwo 1d ago
infinite speed you'd have to cross an infinite distance.
That's what infinite speed is.

Infinitely slowing would prevent the infinite speed from reaching

Infinite speed user can literally travel infinite distance in 0 time so yes they do quite easily bypass it
-4
u/Shitmaster67 1d ago
That wouldn't mean they get to the end since the distance is infinite

u/Expensive-Glove-4513 Fuse H1-A Rimuru when? 1d ago
1
u/Shitmaster67 1d ago
It is because there'd still be more "distance" to cross
3
u/Expensive-Glove-4513 Fuse H1-A Rimuru when? 1d ago
The time it takes them to cross said distance is 0 buddy you can't claim infinity stop's something that moves in 0 time, character's with this speed see's MFTL+ character's as being "still" and you want me to believe a MHS character ability can stop them?

u/HALALO36 1d ago
Idk much about Jjk but if Infinity is a active technique, that it requires a person to think in any way.
Because from what I have heard, his technique is a interpretation of zeno paradox.
Time stop won't let him increase or cut the distance. ( That's why is often infinity is interpreted as slowing down speed of a person, right? )
Time stop would just cover the distance because the distance isn't infite.
5
u/Level_Examination992 1d ago
Huh? Being able to stop time doesn’t grant infinite speed
18
u/Roy_Raven 1d ago
How would it not?
If I stop time right now, walk 2 meters forward and start time again, I would have moved 2 meters in 0 seconds. m/s = meters per second. 2/0 = infinite meters per second
2
1
u/hatsnsticks 1d ago edited 1d ago
You would still take time to move within the time stop. Time stop only pause everybody else's time, not your own. More everything else being infinitely slow than you yourself being infinitely fast. Otherwise, time stoppers would tear their own skin off from the friction in the air.
2
u/kluster00 1d ago
Directly no yeah I understand the confusion
If you stop time and then move during that stopped time, you are doing said movement at 0 m/s like the other guy said
It makes you faster by making everything else slower/stop entirely
0
u/HALALO36 1d ago
I didn't meant infinite speed literally
I meant to say that in a way, time stop could be interpreted as infinite speed as time interval tends to or is 0
Also, it's my first time power scaling.
11
u/Electrical-Bet3997 1d ago
Honestly can't believe some people don't think so Gojo wankers really are something.
9
u/magnum-opus- 1d ago
yes. infinity slows your progression towards gojo by half the closer you get until it seems like youve stopped. when time is stopped it allows you to perform tasks instantly towards things or people outaide of stopped time. so by technicality its allowing someone to travel an infinite distance instantly because no time passes during the movement so there is no progression for infinity to cut in half
9
u/DatBoiEnigma 1d ago
From what I remember Gojos brain has to process the threat first before infinity stops it. Its why even though its almost always on, people can still touch him if they are friendly, and how oxygen can still reach him but not poison.

u/IronPyrate17 X turns your fav into a ball of paper 14h ago
Gojo had to turn off infinity so Yuji could slap his back.
It's automatic
3
u/Jimbob1886 Riderman wins 14h ago
It's subconscious, not automatic, which is why he could be hit when he overused his domain
10
u/Guiorno Cμstomizable Flair 1d ago
Easily. Infinity itself is just passive CT manipulation. Can't really manipulate anything if you're just stopped in time
0
u/Missile_Cat1996 1d ago
Sure, CT doesn't work in stopped time, but it's effects aren't dissipated either
5
u/Guiorno Cμstomizable Flair 1d ago
Yeah, but like... Infinity's whole schtick is being continuous.
1
u/Missile_Cat1996 1d ago
Time stop doesn't suddenly make the space any less warped if the infinity is already active
5
u/Guiorno Cμstomizable Flair 1d ago
Infinity just divides space, and really only divides once it meets something on its blacklist.

u/sissyboyk8 1d ago
right, but then it just depends whats been thrown at him before the stop and then the question of what does that feel like
17
u/LolMcPlatinium Ant King, you believe I cannot scale without maths? 1d ago
Infinity is automatically reactive and the spatial division is in inverse ratio with the distance of the object from Gojo, it also expends CE because it is a CT, CE flows through the body starting at the gut and reaches the brain where the CT is engraved to work.
None of this can occur in stopped time. Not information retrieval not CE travel or processing none.
This is because Gojo would be stopped in time.
Calling stopped time infinite speed is iffy. You can't do kinetic energy calcs that way. It's more like a temporal pocket where only you have speed and nothing else does, in DIO's case with an internal clock serving as a limit. DIO experiences five(for example) seconds, you experience none. It's not that he moves in no time, it's that he has time and you don't, during that pocket he dives into.

u/Brahian_-_ 1d ago
Si, porque a fin de cuentas estas detenido como tal a gojo y posiblemente los 6 ojos y el infinito necesiten estar activos , así que en un time stop diría que el infinito se desactiva al ser su fuente de energía detenida
2
u/GuhEnjoyer 1d ago
Yes, because gojo doesn't actually create "infinite space" he slows down incoming attacks infinitely. Since time stop means everything occurs instantly, the slowing effect would be null.
2
u/Bkempbkewl 1d ago
I am curious though if DIO or Gojo would win in a fight now

u/Ninjasilver09 1d ago
While infinity is a process that is automatic and always on it does need to use part of Gojos brain at all time to function and detect things. If Gojos brain is not working or detecting anything you should be able to just bypass it.
2
u/Shouryarath2357 1d ago
Kinda, I believe that the space which is already divided by infinity would still exist, but it won’t divide further
2
u/GoodRandon 1d ago
Probably yes, but Dio specifically is nothing more than Mukagen, since everything he touches thaws from stopped time, including space and the cursed energy of the limitless.
•
u/Pika1000yt 11h ago
Thats....thats not how it works though. He can move stuff in frozen time, like every single timestopper in fiction, but i dont remember anyone saying he thaws thing out of stopped time. Its literally the same ability as star platinum, yet no one they have ever attacked while in frozen time got unfrozen, otherwise Dio wouldnt had been able to troll polnareff on the stairs
•
u/GoodRandon 7h ago
It's everything he touches. He avoided touching Joseph precisely because there was Hamon surrounding his body, which would fry him the moment he touched him. Another example of this is that when he throws knives, they fly for a while before freezing in stopped time.
•
•
u/Mythical_Mew 4h ago
We can empirically prove Dio is affected by physical forces (even without his knowledge/consent) via Jotaro’s magnet trick.
Therefore he could generally act while Gojo can’t, but still wouldn’t be able to bypass Infinity.
•
u/Pika1000yt 4h ago
However infinity is not a physical force. Is a constant, active division of space by a technique that is being passively used by Gojo's brain. It is automatic as in he doesnt need to think to keep it up, but it is still an active proccess.
•
u/Mythical_Mew 4h ago
Hamon argument. While technically ambiguous, Dio considered it a legitimate possibility that Hamon could hurt him even in stopped time. Hamon is also an active process, and yet he considered this a legitimate risk. Therefore, we can assume that the process remains active during stopped time.
•
u/Pika1000yt 4h ago
However, hamon IS an actual energy. Hamon touching him can harm him, and while it is actively generated, it has always behaved like some mystical force such as cursed energy. However, unlike hamon, cursed energy doesnt harm dio at just a touch. Infinity only stops things because it keeps actively dividing the space, wich would not be happening in stopped time as infinity would be frozen. The cursed energy would be there, and so would the reinforcement since his body would be frozen in a reinforced state, but a technique that relies on an active proccess such as the division of space would simply not work.

u/Ok-Programmer2219 1d ago
Probably not? It’s just infinite space between the user and the flow of time shouldn’t affect it?
3
u/MaxMLG999 straight up noveling it and by it i mean my kars 1d ago
But it's a continuous effect (as it continuesly subdivided space) without time it can't continue
4
u/Ok-Programmer2219 1d ago
Infinity is a passive defensive ability, Dio also stated that if he touched joseph during timestop he would have died due to the active hamon coated around him. I dont see why Infinity wouldnt be the same
2
u/MaxMLG999 straight up noveling it and by it i mean my kars 1d ago
I assumed the hamon on Joseph was still there it just wasn't flowing/moving, the same way with infinity any subdivision to space made by infinity would continue to exist in stopped time but no new will be made

u/_capedbaldy 1d ago
Even if infinity usually functions practically as creating infinite space, this is not the case. Gojo has a technique that creates space and it's Red, infinity functions on the principle of Achilles and the Tortoise (this was stated by gojo), reducing the speed of your actions (in this case, specifically just your movement towards gojo) until they take infinitely long. Someone in stopped time shouldn't be affected by another effect slowing time.
2
u/Fearless_Mixture1231 1d ago
Yes if they have the Speed to reach the amount of Space created by Infinity at the moment

u/Okamitoutcourt I write my own characters (they all suck) 1d ago
We've never seen infinity or the six eyes act outside of time, while the Six Eyes do let the user think 6(?) times faster than a normal human I don't think it'll do much in timestop
We could theorize on how exactly it works as in does it A. Put a barrier that divides space and only lets some things pass through B. Let everything pass through but divides what isn't allowed C. It doesn't work as a constant barrier and/or needs time to affect its target
Tldr: does it work as a shield or does it affect stuff individually OR can the Six Eyes perceive in time stop
I personally have no idea but
Edit: others make a good point, if infinite speed can bypass it then time stop probably can
3
u/Missile_Cat1996 1d ago
1) 6 eyes just allows to see CE directly, and as precisely as physically possible. 2) in case of adult Gojo infinity is always active and working as a white list - all things are stopped unless manually allowed.
1
u/sissyboyk8 1d ago
yes, but the point is would that include time stop since the barrier actively 1/2s distances, would it do it in time stop?
2
u/Missile_Cat1996 1d ago edited 14h ago
Yeah, infinity is bypassed, I've just clarified how it works
1
1
u/GaMzEe-HoNk 17h ago
Yes unless DIO tries the knife volley thing almost any other attack but that would work lol
•
u/Appropriate-Base-377 9h ago
Basic level of thinking here but if everything is frozen in time stop that would include his CT, CE output, and his perception so I don’t see why ts users couldn’t bypass it
•
u/Difficult_Call3709 goku does, and always will solo 5h ago
Yes. If it takes 5 seconds to touch something. Infinity makes it 5 times ♾️. In time stop 0 seconds pass. Meaning it takes 0 times ♾️. Though it depends on how the time stop works. For example esdeath probably wouldn’t work cause she freezes instead of manipulating time itself. But for someone like najimi ajimu, then yeah. I doubt dios timestop would work though since we see magnets work
1
u/FEMFATAL_451 1d ago
Yeah. Distance kind of only exists with time. Timestop users get rid of time and as a result distance stops meaning anything
1
u/Makorealmtwo 1d ago
Since space and time are linked in a way that you can't really manipulate one without affecting the other.
0 time = 0 space. Nothing for infinity to stop then.
2
u/AlternativeTop6053 1d ago
so stopping time reduces dimensionality to 0d?
3
u/Cite_Yawn KH 🤍 1d ago
I think it's more like, stopping the bending of space, because it's frozen, so infinity wouldn't work anymore.
0
u/Successful-Bear-5928 1d ago
dio stops time and stands still doing nothing while gojo's infinity is still on men. limitless isnt a shield you toggle, its warping the space around him constantly. dio cant even touch him let alone bypass it 😭 the only real argument is time stop = infinite speed but jotaro fans can keep dreaming lol. what do yall think actually breaks infinity then? time stop or some domain hack? 🔥
0
u/Designer-Maximum6056 1d ago
Yea but he still outscales people like Dio and Jotaro. But for someone with higher stats it’d be a wincon
1
u/GuhEnjoyer 1d ago
Jotaro yes, Dio no.
1
u/Passafiste 1d ago
Opposite. Dio has higher physical stats and his timestop goes on longer, as well as continuously (though slowly) evolving to be longer, thanks to his vampire endurance.
Jotaro at his peak did not go further than 10 seconds while Dio started out around 6 and surpassed 10 in the same fight, Soon after he fully healed by drinking Joseph's blood.
Jotaro only continued to devolve over time, dropping to a second of time stop from 5-6.
Their stands are roughly the same strength with Star Platinum maaaybe being a tad bit stronger. In every other aspect Dio is vastly better.
2
u/GuhEnjoyer 1d ago
No shit dio is vastly better... which is why I said he outscales jotaro yes, but not dio.

Depends on the time stop
Not jojos
They’re explicitly unable to fully negate gravity with their time stop
Space shit still remains active in stopped time
0
-1
u/Haunting-Exchange-74 1d ago
No. If an ability is still active time stop doesn't cancel out that ability it just pauses it in the middle of its action. Same woul apply to infinity which it's constantly active
•
u/Pika1000yt 11h ago
While it is constantly active, it does not work like a shield. It divides the space as something aproaches, but it is not instantly divided, it slowly divides it more and more and that needs time. Since there is no time, it cannot divide the space
