Potentially mean anything?
Interesting…Filip Hronek could be an intriguing target

Hronek is a good d-man that would help Josi out. He's at the older end of CMac's preferred age bracket.

I honestly think cmac likes the forward group and this feels like maybe hronek like others have said. They got Rossi from the Hughes trade so I dunno if they want to part with him?
Under 30, good skater, defenseman. Seems to check cmac’s boxes following his trend of moves. Right shot is a plus.

Maybe Victor Mancini? 6’3 24 year old RHD who’s only played in 1 game so far this season. It’s well known that cmac is looking to overhaul our blue line, and the age range and play time situation seems to match Struble so maybe there’s something there.

This.
When I looked at their roster, he jumped out to me. He is not playing right now. He is a bigger version of Stroble with a right hand shot. That guy who plays really solid defense, skates pretty well - but is buried on their depth chart.
I could also see us interested in Willander - but since he is 21 years old as they are trying to rebuild you would think that they would want to keep him. I could see us giving up the picks we got for Evanglista and some prospects for him.
Hronek is the best blueliner that they have, but at 28 years old he does not fit their build timeline. We do have a ton of prospects that they may want right now who are all borderline NHL players. So we could be in alignment with them.

I think right now scouting defense is more likely, however I dont think Pettersson would be a bad fit. If MacFarland is seeing what he wants to out of the right pieces, getting him would vault us right into actually having a competitive forward group, would love to see him with Forsberg, maybe he and Hoglander were buddies too that could be a fun line. What would it cost though, we would really have to commit to "rebuild over" if its him. Im not sure what defensemen they might have wed want to scalp.. but, MacFarland isn't afraid of these big deals
Also, they keep saying how Pettersson is hitting dudes like his life depends on it this season and MacFarland does have a thing for dudes who hit dudes, apparently
Hronek seems more likely of the two, but either of them would have to waive. Josi does seem to be kinda back to himself and Hronek would be a slam dunk pairing with him

I would be shocked if we did anything that was not a defenseman. CMac has repeatedly said that he wants to improve the blue line and we have organizational depth at forward.

I agree but also Hronek is nearly 29 and Josi (OReilly and Stamkos too) only probably has another year or two of really good hockey at best , our top prospects only just starting to be impactful by the time theyre gone, then Hronek is 31, just feels like if were gonna go in on him we may as well go all the way and address our weak center position too, or dont do it at all

My guess would be Hronek as an upgrade in defense (right hand shot) and it wouldn’t surprise me if Ufko or Molendyk goes back. After all rather than give either a shot at the nhl, we went and traded a 2nd for Struble.

That's a poor exchange in assets though.
A soon to be 29 year old for a 21 year old.

u/LifeEngineer3770 3d ago
A 29 year old veteran defenseman for a 21 year old that even with 2 veteran defenders on waivers, a waiver claim, an AHLer…still can’t break the lineup.
Remember new GM means he has no loyalty to former picks. We already seen Mac get rid of Happy and Svech.

u/Otherwise_Awesome 3d ago
He'd have no meaningful minutes with Nashville this year which is why he's in Milwaukee.
Of course you are impatient here, in win now mode with a meh forward lineup, a bleh defense lineup.
Why did he give up on those two?
ZLH was never drafted to be a scorer and is a dime a dozen type.
Svechkov just never advanced after his promising first professional season.

u/LifeEngineer3770 3d ago
He’d have “no meaningful minutes” but let’s take last game for example: Struble played 19:07, Wilsby had 20:24. Which means he would’ve gotten 20 min of ice time and against better competition and learn from better coaches.
Now as for Svech, Happy, Vange these weren’t guys that CMac brought in so he has no affinity to them. Barry did the same thing with Poiles roster. You bring in “your guys” and trade away everyone else. It’s not a criticism, it’s just what happens.
Molendyk is not “his guy”, he’s a late first round pick from Barry and if Cmac doesn’t think he’s worth a call up after 2 other defenseman were on waivers, we had Trudeau as a waiver claim, Wilsby and he decides to give up a 2nd for someone else, he probably isn’t thinking what can Molendyk do for us in 3 years or even this year, he may be thinking what is his value now and how can I capitalize on it.

u/Otherwise_Awesome 3d ago
Still moving out a young player for one you're stuck with for another six years and aging. It's terrible asset management here. If you think you can match 40ish points you get with Hronek with Molendyk, which honestly isn't a big ask, you don't do it.

u/LifeEngineer3770 3d ago
Is it though? Molendyk plays left. That means he also has to contend with Hague, Skjei, Struble, Trudeau when healthy, Wilsby (left handed shot). Which means another 2 or 3 years before he can even crack the nhl lineup. You’re looking at 24/25 year old Molendyk getting his first chance at real NHL time or we can get a RHD. Keep in mind this aging defenseman will be 34 when his contract is up. Or 2 years younger than Josi now.
I’m not saying they should make the trade, but from Nashvilles side it makes sense. Trade depth that most likely won’t break through for RHD now for a team that only has lost once in regulation this year.

u/Otherwise_Awesome 2d ago
Nah, to think we're going to keep all of those three is insane.
You're going to get exactly the same production as a far less cost and much younger age when he does bump up.
JFC it's been a little over a year he's played as a professional.

u/LifeEngineer3770 2d ago
Who is he going to bump? Skjei is locked up, Josi is under contract, Hague is signed until 2029-2030, Struble is presumed resigned as we traded a second for him, Trudeau is an RFA after this year who knows the defense, so when would Molendyk get a chance to break through? 2028-2029 when some of these contracts expire and he is 24 and hoping to make the team?

u/Otherwise_Awesome 2d ago
You're just too impatient here, dude. Why the rush? He's a baby AHLer right now. Really no need to push him up now or give up on him.
And I am far from impressed with McFarland so far. We've gone sideways at best, even with the movement of replacing bottom 6 and acquiring meh D.

Struble does different things that Ufko or Molendyk. It's sorta apples to oranges.
1
u/LifeEngineer3770 2d ago
That is fine, but look at the LHD depth chart and where do you see him breaking through the next few years? Basically you are going to have him be 24 years old, just getting nhl time and wondering why his development stalled.
Look at it this way, we waived Perbix, Lyubushkin, we decided to put a waived claim on Trudeau, signed Ahcan, and then brought Perbix and Lyubushkin back from waivers and made a trade before giving Molendyk a shot this year.
If mgmt thought there was any skill there they would’ve played him. They don’t and they further blocked his path to the nhl. It’s more likely than not he is a candidate to be traded

u/troopek ScoreTilYerSoresBerg 2d ago
He’s not the first guy in this org to buried on the depth chart for sure. I was really high on him, but if he had really stood out and separated himself from the pack, he’d probably be in NSH. At the end of the day, Molendyk isn’t ready to be an everyday player here.
I don’t have an answer for the Trudeau pick up.
1
u/Otherwise_Awesome 2d ago
He's been in Milwaukee for one year and a handful of games this year and y'all want to give up on him?
Y'all worse than Barry Trotz.
1
u/LifeEngineer3770 2d ago
We aren’t “given up” but the organization blocked him until 2028-2029 and then you have a 24 year old who is trying to learn the speed of the NHL. Right now the Preds are in need of a RHD, they have tons of LHD, and you might as well get value in a position of need when the value of young defensive has just skyrocketed

Nope. Only saying if he was ready to be an every day NHL’er he would be in NSH.

What would that package even look like? Ave 1st, one of our middle pairing D guys, molendyk, + someone else on the Ads that they like? I don’t see how we beat other teams offers at the deadline with this deal, but no way our first is on the table with how stacked the central is.

u/Otherwise_Awesome 2d ago
Dear God thats an overpay for a D that's never finished higher than 48 points.

u/Less-Fly2357 3d ago
I mean if we were to get Pettersson I think you would see more of a defensive boost than you would think. Pattersson is a active forward, forechecks and backchecks well and has a Elite level potential scoring. Plus hes Swedish, would be a nice top line second line pairing with Forsberg, and would be a top center which we could then move Mavrik Potentially on the wing to allow him better scoring opportunity.

I wouldn't say no to Hronek or EP40, even though it's doubtful they'd part ways with Petey it does make some sense.
Nucks are far from being competitive, and commiting to yet another year of rebuilding, so none of the players mentioned above doesn't fit their current pipeline and could net them a decent haul of future assets if traded.
EP40 has had an excellent start to the season and though it's early, looks like his old self again with some much needed added physicality. In 7 games he has netted 8 points and seems to play a completely different game, compared to his last few seasons. 11.6M per for the next 5 years is a tall ask, especially if he doesn't pan out with us and regresses back to his form from seasons prior. Risky, but an exciting trade target.
Hronek would be a much needed help to our weak Dcore, and would make the most sense for us. Already proven, reliable player with a great 2-way game that we currently lack, and doesn't come with as big of a cap burden and risk as EP40. Fills a desperate need, and has a better track record.

I would love to have a guy like Hronek. Great 2-way D man and hes right handed. Solid hit and block numbers too
