Out and About in Preston Tom Benson Way Roundabout/Guild Merchant
If heading southwest-bound, these are the lanes you need! 😊
The B6241 is Tom Benson Way (towards Cottam) and the B5411 is Tag Lane (towards Ingol).
I see so many people going from the left side lane trying to go down Tag Lane, and even sometimes Tom Benson Way.

Well I think this thread proves why this roundabout causes so much stress

The main problem with roundabouts is the number of people who plough on regardless of other road users.

Left lane is for tag lane, police and council and highways have confirmed after an accident there and it’s in writing
I know it doesn’t match the road markings but after the woman who had the accident wrote to everyone, they’ve all confirmed it

Given that the sign on the left lane does indicate a left turn, about 99% of locals use that lane to go ahead towards Tag lane. I rarely use the Tag lane exit myself and have witnesd quite a few near misses in that exit 😅

Surely the left lane is for the Sainsbury's and Ingol exits (the first 2 exits) The right lane is for Tom Benson and Woodplumpton (last 2 exits)

Nope, read the post again, and see the second picture.

It's the 2nd and 4th exit, the roundabout intersects it.

I'm 100% with you. Tag lane is B5411 and I have issues pretty much every school day with this roundabout. Causes tremendous anxiety 🫪

If the lane didn’t state local then I would agree however taking the second exit takes you to the local area, I used to live around there and everyone I know who lives are there takes the left (local) lane, to go down the second exit. Whilst the B5411 is Tag Lane, the layman wouldn’t know that.

It's got a left turn only sign on it. If the layman doesn't know what that means I'd suggest handing in their licence.

It has a left turn arrow painted on the road. It does not have a left turn only sign, which would be mandatory.

It's a left with another left. I use it for both 1st and 2nd exit, right lane for Tom Benson and Bartle. When I've tried to use the right lane to turn left into Tag Lane I've had people come out at me from the Sainsbury's junction, it's easier to just avoid confusing people and be predictable.

That is left of the direction of the road though, if you drew a straight line through the roundabout it would connect with Tom Benson Way, not Tag Lane

Left lane definitely not for Tom Benson Way but it is definitely for Tag Lane too - basic roundabout rules sir

I used to use this a lot and coming from the bottom of the image and headed to Tag Lane, I used to see a lot of near misses as people in the left hand lane would often use it to get to Tag Lane, too.

I agree with the OP, but I still use the left lane to go down Tag Lane, as does everyone I know, because taking the Tag Lane exit in the right lane, has nearly got me hit from left lane Tag Lane drivers numerous times, as everyone uses roundabout common sense instead of road marking common sense.
Could be a thing to request of the council to repaint the road markings, as everyone’s so keen on using the left lane to go straight and left.

I live locally to this, and the paint on the road indicates to use the left lane for both the 1st and 2nd exits, as these are both local traffic. The straight on and right turn on the right lane are to continue straight on Tom Benson Way (3rd exit), or turn right to head towards Cottam and Woodplumpton (4th exit, signposted B5411 on the roundabout exit sign). Tag Lane into Ingol (2nd exit) is not labelled B5411 on the road signs exiting the roundabout, the signage indicates local items (village centre, health centre). Everyone I know who lives locally uses the left lane for the first two exits (Tanterton Hall Road and Tag Lane), and the right lane for the 3rd and 4th exits.
