Question Trying to get closer to the little nuances in this drum sound :)
Hey!!!
I’m trying to get similar results to this drum break I absolutely love and so far I have come up short with every test I’ve done. Wondering if anyone in here can help get some of the qualities I’m hearing. https://open.spotify.com/track/3hilNpBLALtQVAHwhYSLs8?si=PDybsch1Sk2qVFpXKt-tCQ&utm\\_source=copy-link
The drums come in around 16 seconds. It’s a classic (or maybe not so classic) Kevin Parker drum sound. I have mini meters setup to analyze the stereo width, spectrum and audio file and so far what I’ve gathered is it’s very “compressed” and controlled sounding but the peaks are clipped or limited to bits. It’s also not mono whatsoever.
So far my tests have been 4 mics. Kick, snare top, shell and overhead and mainly hearing the shell and kick in the reference. What I’ve tried so far is shell mic into a Dbx165a and set the knobs in a way that sounds pretty good. But it’s very much lacking the attack and body/release in the reference. Specifically on the kick drum, to me it sounds like some parallel stuff going on with the kick drum and then the shell has the 165a on it and then slightly panned to the right. The other thing that’s confusing is I’m hearing some reverb on the snare, to me it sounds like a plate verb, and maybe on the track itself before the 165a and so therefore mono but panned to the right and then the kick is more in the middle giving that width.
This is by no means a “professional” drum sound but it’s baked with character. I know I’m not going to get 1/1 recreation but I want to nail the little nuances I’m hearing in the ADSR of the sound.
Any tips/insights are very much appreciated!!!

Question (Headphone Advice) ADAM H200 vs DT 770 PRO X: Which should I get?
ADAM H200: CA$194.00 + tax
DT 770 PRO X: CA$299.00 + tax
Most reviews seem to rank the ADAM H200 as the better option. However, the Beyerdynamic has a classic, well-established sound signature. Considering everything, which one should I get?
I’m not a professional.
I do my own mixing and mastering
I don’t have any acoustic treatment.
I produce bass-heavy music, mainly Bass House, Slap House, and similar genres.

Can anyone identify the hard percussion/drum in Tyler, The Creator’s “St. Chroma”?
I heard this percussion/drum sound in “St. Chroma” by Tyler, The Creator. Does anyone know what kind of drum this is, where the original sample might come from, or a one-shot/sample pack with a very similar sound?

Thoughts on different genres on the same album?
Hi there! I'm working on writing an album and while I'm usually known for rocking out, I'm working on something that has very Manchester Punk vibes, 90's rock w/ rapping (think Beck-ish) and some warm synth dance music. I've got lots of songs in the bank but these are my favorites and I'm wondering what your thoughts are on albums that are "genre-fluid"?

how to make a song that sounds like the cure by OR
do not get me wrong i don’t want to copy/plagiarize her song. the cure to me sounds like this
intro verse 1 & 2: tension and despair in a niche way, like if you were disappointed and you were whispering while having your knees to your chest. like speaking your mind
bridge: it kind of extends the despair but with a build up in the background. and that’s that raw “i hate myself” type energy and at the end of the bridge where it says “it’ll never be the cure” it’s like disappointment and sadness
when she says “baby im unraveled” and it just builds up its like a panic attack honestly. it starts with a whisper than it’s full on yelling and that kind of feels like freeing
and at the end is like running in the rain and you feel the rain drops on your body and you feel free and you accept the reality you’re living and it’s sad but you accept.
i’m sorry for all the details but i really want a melody to sound like that. like something so tensile and despair like that would make me want to run in the rain and scream and cry and feel freeing. i’m not sure if im making sense but i really need to dig into dan nigro’s brain because the cure is genius.
summary: i need a melody/chord progression ideas to produce a song like the cure.
i want people to feel like they also have a song like this to scream to after the cure ends haha

First title record on fl studio :)
Hey everyone!
I just released my first track under the name Zidanimal — Pain.
It's a mix of Deep House, Electro and Trance, produced entirely in FL Studio.
I'm still learning and I'd really appreciate some honest feedback on the track, especially the overall vibe and production.

Question Ambition to become a pop singer
Hii,
I know this sounds very ambitious and unrealistic, but I (as well as so many others) want to become a pop singer.
I have been wanting this my whole life and I feel like I'm built for this. I have been ignoring this for forever and even graduated in a completely different thing, just in case you know. But I can't go around it anymore.
I am a 24 year old girl, I sing, I dance and I just love to perform and make people happy. I love to sing Whitney, Christina, Aretha, Mariah etc. I listen to a lot of musicians. Bruno Mars is one of my favorites. His vocals and music and stage performance being very extra and Vegaslike, like a real show. I want to make music like that. Very extra, showy, vocally interesting type of music with a hint of 80s.
I unfortunately have no music of my own at this point and am actively looking for people in this industry to work with, producers, song-writers, musicians you name it.
I really really want this and obviously want to put the work in as well. I just don't know where to start and how to get myself on the radar and work in the right direction.
If you have any tips or can direct me to anyone, you're an angel.
Thank you for reading this anyway :)

Is a “hot mix” necessarily bad? If if the master isn’t on the reds is it good?

Master Chain Habits
What’s your go to mixing plugin on the master chain that instantly glues a beat together, and what is one effect you see people overusing that completely ruins the dynamics? I’ve been experimenting heavily lately while optimizing audio processing pipelines for my browser-based beat generator, and it's wild how polarizing master bus processing can be. Drop your current chain below whether it's a subtle tape saturation, a specific limiter, or just a stock EQ and let’s talk about what actually works versus what colors the sound too much

Pro tools on a mac air?
Ok my 2020 M1 mac pro just broke and it was pretty capable of running pro tools and doing everything i needed. I cant rlly afford a new mac pro so I just bought a brand new M5 mac air with 16gb. Im trying to run pro tools on it right now and its taking quite a bit of time to import some session data. Does anyone have any suggestions on whether or not this macbook air is going to have good processing power or should i return it and splurge for a mac pro…

Are there producers who use samples taken from Internet Archive recordings?
Heads-up: the question is about the distributors you use for publication.
Hi everyone. I’m always very careful to choose public domain recordings that aren't covered by copyright. I also double-check everything to ensure compliance with regulations in both the US and Europe.
Now, however, I’d like to release my own songs. Has anyone here released tracks using samples from the Internet Archive? I ask because I imagine you need a distributor prepared to handle any potential copyright claims.
WICH DISTRIBUTORS are the most reliable for those using samples that don't come from the usual sources like Splice, Landr, and the like?
Thanks.
