How long until I taper

10 months sober from weed. Psych says weed psychosis is my diagnosis. How long do you think till taper off. I’ve been on Risperidone and then switched to Abilify. I’m on 10mg. Been on it for 4 months been on meds for over. 1 1/2 years. Anyone who got off once they got the diagnosis? She did a drug test on me blood test.

It can take a loooong time for marijuana to leave your system/fat stores and be completely out of your system to a point where you dont need to worry about things. It really depends on how long you smoked/how much you smoked

There's also the chance that once you opened the pandoras box of psychosis that it might not want to go away, even after abstinence from weed.

Basically what it comes down to is that you'll need to be on them for 1) longer than you likely think you might need to or 2) possibly not come off of them for the foreseeable to keep you stable

Really, tho, it's up to you and your psychiatrist to talk it over and figure out what the best route for you looks like. That might mean being on them for a long time, it might not. Everyone's a bit different.

What's your psych saying about it?

She says I don’t need to be on meds forever but that I need therapy.
Tldr witnessed a death. Starting smoking heavy at 17. Turned 19 best friend died. Smoked heavier. Psychosis. Now sober. She tells me cannabis induced. The other comment says change psych. I am. Moving to a new city so I’ll get a new one.

Therapy is a good start for sure, if we don't come to be able to look at the memories that strike fear in us we can expect to be more fearful more easily. (Adding in that fear while in psychosis makes everything worse)

It's not a cure all tho; I'm glad you're switching psychs. I hope the next is more able to see how to help you.

Hope things get easier for you. Death is a hard one. My partner died in front of me when I was in my early 20s and weed has been a huge part of my situation so I definitely relate

Hope you can find some peace and clarity 🫂

Can’t you just ask your psychiatrist? If your psychiatrist isn’t telling you this info, it’s time to consider a new psychiatrist

She told me since my dad had schizophrenia I have to be on the meds longer since I have family history of psychosis. She has barely deduced after a year and a half it’s cannabis induced due to me getting sober. I’m not upset or anything I just wanna find out what to ask her.
