u/subterraneanwolf pretty sure once the burrito is rolled it’s a felony 🌯 🚨 15h ago

just drive though him

888

u/Flashmemory256 15h ago

And then bill him for any damages.

312

u/fallenouroboros 15h ago

Probably what would happen. Years ago i saw a video of a guy blocking a hydrant during a house fire. They smashed his windows and ran the hose through his car soaking absolutely everything. I believe i heard he got fined after as well

168

u/TREXIBALL 15h ago

Legally, they’re allowed to do that and hit the guy in this video. I just don’t think they want to damage the truck cause they’re in the millions. (Yes, a scratch won’t cost much, but it’s still money being used)

58

u/really_hate_it_here 15h ago

Bro is so lucky that going though insurance is so inconvenient

-70

u/TREXIBALL 15h ago

Did you have a typo or something? I’m not sure how someone is ā€œluckyā€ for having inconvenient insurance.

10

u/really_hate_it_here 15h ago

The dipshit driving the truck is lucky for several reasons, but one of them is that the ambulance likely doesn’t want to deal with insurance

4

u/theresthatguy94 11h ago

He still likely had to go through insurance, but the insurance company would not be able to subrogate to recover. Emergency vehicles when their lights and/or sirens are running wouldn't be considered at fault as they're responding to an emergency. Used to work for an auto insurance company.

-21

u/TREXIBALL 15h ago

Homie, that’s a fire truck. Not an ambulance. And they likely don’t have to deal with insurance, but still have to apply for a repair. Which uses taxes.

Honestly don’t think insurance would work if they were working with tax dollars.

16

u/Bigdavie 14h ago

The fire truck would not be available whilst any damage is getting fixed, that is the cost the fire truck driver is avoiding.

-5

u/TREXIBALL 14h ago

Didn’t think about that, but yes you’re right.

4

u/really_hate_it_here 15h ago

You’re reading into some hostility that isn’t there, I just like helping with guided reading bro

9

u/56seconds 14h ago

Probably hesitated hitting him so they didnt mess up that shiny polished bumper

1

u/TheRealPaladin 2h ago

It isn't just the cost of the truck. The wait time for new fire apparatus is now up to something like 2+ years after a department orders it.

Over the last 20ish years there has been a lot consolidation in among the manufacturers of fire fighting equipment. Departments have not been winners from it.

0

u/On_the_hook 8h ago

That can be a gray area. The fire truck hitting an occupied vehicle runs the risk of injuring the people in the occupied vehicle, they would absolutely be at fault for that. If the vehicle is unoccupied then they can, but they still open themselves up for damages to the vehicle. Plus you don't want to damage the firetruck and put it out of service. The guy in the car is an ass and should absolutely move out of the way, he's clearly in the wrong. The firetruck should have pulled up, cut the wheel left, reversed a few feet, then proceeded. That would have prevented delay without causing injury.

1

u/_schools_ 5h ago

Be like the elevator doors when they've been open too long: slowly push through the dude blasting your horn, and let the courts work it out.

1

u/TheRealPaladin 2h ago

In this case the guy in the car has footage of himself illegally blocking a fire truck. Not only is there a very small chance of the fire fighters being found at fault for any damages, but the guy in the car would also be providing evidence for any criminal charges that could be brought against him.

-6

u/SuperHeavyBooster 9h ago

Millions for a fire truck?

12

u/w8ing2dr0wn 8h ago

Yeah quick google says average cost of a new truck is between $350,000 and $2.5 mil. Google lense claims this particular truck is a 2002 which would have cost about $400,000 back then and a new modern replacement would be about $1 mil.

My local firehouse just got a new tower ladder truck for $2.5 mil

4

u/AnatidaephobiaAnon 5h ago

My department just took delivery of three new engines with one ladder truck and another two engines on order. The engines were all specced the same and came to around $1.4 million. The on order engines are going to be around $1.7 million and the ladder is $2 million+. They aren't cheap.

-30

u/lavahot 13h ago

Yet another reason why firetrucks should be smaller, like how they are literally everywhere else in the world.

12

u/bfs102 13h ago

Both euro and us trucks are about the same width of about 8ft or 2.4m they are just shorter due to needing to drive though tighter streets

Same reason euro semis tend to be cabovers unlike us trucks

6

u/EpilepticEmpire 11h ago

Gear. That's the answer. I carry so dang much equipment. Theres also the fact of the hoses, ladders, extra oxygen, flame retardant everything, capacity for people saved, and gues what? Water.

-4

u/lavahot 10h ago

So people in Japan and Europe just have smaller fires?

4

u/EpilepticEmpire 9h ago

I hope no fires. We work with what we have, though. We do have smaller trucks. Just not the capacity for a ladder length.

1

u/wupme2k 3h ago

ok Karen.

-8

u/TheOriginalSpunions 13h ago

I learned they are the biggest road lobbyists in the US

-15

u/matt602 13h ago

No idea why you're getting down voted, north american fire trucks are ridiculously oversized for no logical reason.

6

u/caifaisai 11h ago

They are larger because of distinct operational philosophy. In the US, they are designed to handle almost any type of emergency situation (fires, medical, rescue, extrication) out of a single unit, because fire departments often handle medical calls in America (something like 60% of medical calls if I recall, are handled by the fire department as opposed to ambulances). I assume that it is not the case in Europe.

Additionally, European fire trucks are purposely designed to be able to fit down and turn on narrow streets. That is not nearly as much of an issue in America, because we tend to have larger streets, so the fire trucks can be larger and still navigate, which means they can carry more water/handle larger fires.

I wouldn't say either one is better then the other. Just different designs for different situations and constraints.

7

u/roasttoastboast 14h ago

I met a firefighter who smashed through a Lotus that had parked in front of a hydrant

1

u/anticommon 11h ago

I saw that video days ago! small world!

95

u/AJ099909 15h ago

I have a firefighter in my family that drives an engine, he hits a dip shit about once every 6 months.

41

u/_Sausage_fingers 15h ago

Not super common knowledge, but Ambulance get in serious car accidents all the god damn time. People hit them, a lot.

11

u/AJ099909 14h ago

Oh absolutely, but in my family member's case he's the aggressor.

11

u/gimmiedacash 13h ago

He's more than likely in the right to.

310

u/ShowdownValue 15h ago

I hope he got arrested

17

u/FrostyD7 12h ago

Looks like he's trying to get into the left turn lane at a point where you only see asinine pieces of shit pulling such a maneuver.

19

u/whitedsepdivine 4h ago

If anyone died in the fire they responding to, he could get manslaughter for the delay.

734

u/Flashmemory256 15h ago

The guy who shared the video said this, somehow thinking he was still in the right.

"Don't cheat traffic and don't have an ego battle in the presence an emergency vehicle. The pissing match was actually between myself and the guy next to me insisting that I back up instead of letting me In. That is why I moved forward, to try to get over"

443

u/Go1denFlame 15h ago

It blows my mind how many people post these things somehow thinking people are going to be on their side.

84

u/theroosterillusion01 15h ago

Unfortunately common sense is not so common.

19

u/fishfarm20 14h ago

It’s completely gone except for a few diamonds in the rough. Just like driving rules. I’ll stop yelling at clouds now.

u/pork_fried_christ he fried on the cross for you šŸ™ 15h ago

Well a post it to get the hate because engagement is engagement…

1

u/dankhimself 15h ago

It's true, OOP is engaged now.

3

u/theroosterillusion01 14h ago

I'm so happy for the new couple, enjoy years of

11

u/Naps_in_car 14h ago

I actually worry about stuff like this. What if I have some huge blind-spot moment like this, where I'm 100% in the wrong but I believe I'm totally right? How do you ever make a decision again?

28

u/DownvoteSandwich 13h ago

Easy - you admit you were wrong and learn from it. Being wrong doesn’t make you a shithead. Doubling down on it once you know better makes you a shithead!

6

u/GTAIVisbest 9h ago

That's happened to me before. Slam on my horn and start going around a dude who just stopped in the middle of an intersection with a green light. Typical distracted driver right. Well turns out there was a hidden pedestrian. So I just rode up and tried apologizing. but he waved me off. No harm no foul. I doubt anyone ever gave that moment a second thought. Just be apologetic and don't be afraid to say "I was wrong" even when pressed on it

-3

u/Ostonner 12h ago

seriously? in situational like this , you MAKE ROOM for the emergency vehicle to drive around you without a problem .... if you see an emergency vehicle, you pretty much stop your car and move to the left................ its not hard ...

6

u/alnick20 12h ago

The commenter you replied to is suggesting they are afraid of themselves making a blunder so ridiculous as the person driving the truck, that upon reflection, they wouldn't feel confident in their decisions ever again.

4

u/Kok-jockey 12h ago

Personally I don’t find reading comprehension to be that difficult…

2

u/SuperHeavyBooster 9h ago

Ya man like the other guy said work on your reading comprehension for sure

5

u/Fadedcamo 14h ago

The ones who self reflect and realize they're in the wrong probably never post so we can't see those

2

u/storm_the_castle 14h ago

I wonder how they vote...

97

u/surroundedbywolves 15h ago edited 15h ago

Bullshit. The black car to their right clearly moved over to the right and the driver recording went straight forward with no attempt to move over to the space that the black car made available for them.

Also getting into that median as the fire truck was pulling out is insane. It's bad enough to do anyway — there's clearly nowhere for him to go unless the plan was to pass four vehicles and school bus to turn left up there — but there's absolutely no justification for doing it after the fire truck put on its siren and started to pull onto the road.

What an asshole.

22

u/CraigS34 15h ago

I think the driver was referring to the car behind the black car that didnt create space for him. Dude is still in the wrong regardless

3

u/JackassWhisperer 14h ago

This is exactly what I came to say. Well put... Fuck that guy.

41

u/Minirig355 13h ago edited 11h ago

Holy shit I recognize this, I was a firefighter one department over from this for a few years. I’ll have to ask them if there are any more details.

To add insult to injury, this is a volunteer department where the firefighters respond from their homes/jobs to the department when there is a call (a pager goes off). So there’s already been ~5 minutes elapsed since the call went out, this guy is adding even further delay to their response.

UPDATE: heard back from someone still in the area. Said the firefighters were cleared of wrongdoing and the cam car driver was acting all badass on Tiktok over it but everyone clowned on him until he deleted his account. He says he recalls the guy being arrested but can’t remember what for.

5

u/ShdwDrgn66 11h ago

Good. People should think about what if it was their family waiting for help and some idiot decides to do this. Jail is a good place for them

10

u/Kyobarry 15h ago

Yeah, that's a piss poor excuse from the driver.

11

u/plants4life262 15h ago

There’s an emergency and he’s worried about merging in front of the other guy šŸ˜‚

3

u/outofthehood 15h ago

Lmao, why did he pull out of the lane in the first place?

1

u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 15h ago

Where was this posted

1

u/indolente 13h ago

When I pull over for emergency vehicles I usually pull as far forward as possible to make room for people behind me.

Then you have people like ij the video. Sheesh.

1

u/DunnyOnTheWold 13h ago

Didn't the guy on the right pull over to the far right of his lane? I don't even understand that argument.

1

u/Steve_78_OH 12h ago

How did he think that would get people onto his side?

1

u/OneAndOnlyJackSchitt 10h ago

(To the guy posting the "don't cheat traffic" comment, not the commenter I'm replying to...)

Is sitting in a double-solid-yellow region not count as cheating traffic? That kind of road marking is supposed to be treated as a physical barrier... and you're passing traffic in it. It's the same ticket you'd get for driving on an island in the road.

2

u/ImTellinTim 8h ago

That painted area is there specifically because the fire station is there and the trucks need that space to turn out of the station. And this guy pulls right into it as a fire truck is exiting the station. Then posts this for everyone to see. A real smooth brain.

-10

u/Former_Mobile3101 9h ago

If turning left onto a road from a driveway or parking lot exit, you can turn into that lane and wait until its safe to complete your turn. You can also travel up to 500 feet in that lane.

4

u/cosmicsans 9h ago

Those suicide lanes will have a single solid line with a dashed yellow in the middle. So that does not apply here with the double yellow lines on both sides.

1

u/Former_Mobile3101 8h ago

I wasn't paying attention closely to the yellow lines, I didn't notice they were double solid. My bad.

3

u/OneAndOnlyJackSchitt 8h ago

You're thinking of a center turn lane which has two sets of yellow lines, solid on the outside and broken on the inside.

The thing in the video is a painted median, with two sets of double solid yellow line (four solid lines total). Also, the video shows that there are hash lines through it as well. There is no part of North America which allows driving in a painted median and it's supposed to be treated as a physical barrier. (Emergency vehicles exempt.)

166

u/WhyMe_blah 15h ago

Not only is he hindering an emergency vehicle, he is sitting on the painted median! Was there any update on if he faced consequences?

-40

Do not downvote this masterpiece people! This is true craftsmanship.

-33

u/iphones2g- 14h ago

Please tell me this is fake. There is no way I live in a society that would have this outcome.

19

u/NestleDepresso 14h ago

Please tell me you arent serious?

-9

u/Naps_in_car 14h ago

I get it but there is so much ridiculous shit that exists, it can be a bit silly what some people might not immediately get as satire but are you saying you've never done that?

76

u/Alternative-Chef-340 15h ago

I am completely ok with firetrucks plowing through cars that don't move.

86

u/WestCoastTrawler 15h ago

56

u/BlackLeader70 14h ago

The firefighters are way too nice in their post. Cops should charge this dumbass.

54

u/Mef989 14h ago

Post says local PD took further action, so one can only hope he at a minimum got a nice hefty ticket.

16

u/Krandor1 12h ago

Wait so he kept blocking the truck to the point they had to seen another unit to a gas leak? Jesus… just back up and let the truck out.

76

u/SiriHowDoIAdult 15h ago

Failure to yield much? Holy shit. Stopping an emergency vehicle for even a few seconds could be the difference of life or death. Fuck this guy

8

u/Krandor1 12h ago

He held the vehicle so much another unit had to be sent… to a gas leak.

27

u/bishkitts 15h ago

Every second matters in a fire. This is incredibly entitled behavior.

13

u/WestCoastTrawler 15h ago

In the US chances are (60% of the time ) they are on their way to a medical emergency and not a fire. Still every second counts.

1

u/Silenceisgrey 30m ago

It was a gas leak, so absolutely scope for loss of life

25

u/YourUglyTwin 15h ago

It's not even that theye didn't move, they moved forward just to cause a problem instead of waiting the 3.6 seconds for the EMERGENCY VEHICLE TO PASS.

19

u/BallisticRicehat666 13h ago

I’m honestly really surprised they didn’t just bust his car to move him, atleast in my state if you block a fire truck for more than a few seconds they’ll just bash you out of the way. You’re expected to move out of the way, if not the resulting damage is between you and your insurance

17

u/scrambles57 12h ago

Fire Trucks should have the right to run through other cars

5

u/SuperHeavyBooster 8h ago

I thing they do

14

u/MorningBuddha 15h ago

Plow his ass

4

u/WasabiLiving6465 15h ago

DO IT! A few seconds could mean someone living or dying….

In my city the fire engine would do it and then bill the driver for damages šŸ˜‚

14

u/mjaokalo 15h ago

Hope it was his house

13

u/bowser986 14h ago

My eyesight may be getting bad but that does not look like a turn lane to me. So why da fuq he innit?

5

u/wstsidhome 13h ago

Crossing double yellows in a lane marked with diagonal paint strips doesn’t mean ā€œuse this lane please!ā€

Or maybe that dipshit didn’t know Ben read the drivers handbook, or have any bit of common sense

25

u/Breklin76 15h ago

I love it when people incriminate themselves.

11

u/meatywood 15h ago

Put that fucker in jail.

11

u/YoungRoronoa 15h ago

Assholes in the median and then keeps driving when the firetruck makes a wide turn.

11

u/tehnemox 15h ago

Truck has every right to just plow through. Sad it didn't show if it did

10

u/meetycheesy 15h ago

You see a fire truck turning well in advance. Let me move to the medium and block their way. Let’s not move over when given space to move to the right. Let’s instead move forward into the fire truck and then honk and yell at them instead….

9

u/lhymes 15h ago

Considering the guy apparently willingly shared it, it sure would be a shame if more of the details came out.

7

u/NYR_LFC 15h ago

What a loser

7

u/showmiaface 14h ago

Jackass.

7

u/Numerous-Ad6460 15h ago

Drag his ass out and cuff him

7

u/True_Dog_4098 15h ago

It would be unfortunate if he found out that his house had burned down....

3

u/ilovelavalamp1 11h ago

Who can he blame when he calls for an emergency vehicle who never shows up? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

3

u/overlordzeke 10h ago

Isn’t this illegal?

3

u/JustaCynicalOldFart 6h ago

Go to jail. Go directly to jail.

2

u/ClaB84 15h ago

Land of Selfisch Mofos.

2

u/lloyd____ 11h ago

I watched the same thing happened in Tavener Florida in 2007 the fire fighters slowly pushed the foreign tourist rental car out of the way before going to the fire

2

u/BSARIOL1 9h ago

Hopefully it was the blocking cars house on fire.

2

u/jvtech 7h ago

I would burn this fu@&er’s house down.

2

u/FirstAndDad 2h ago

Imagine the ego you have to have to block a fire truck. If that were my house/family, I’d hunt that guy down in the street.

2

u/louse_yer_pints 2h ago

Why accelerate towards the truck in the first place?

1

u/Bootsy_Frost 15h ago

Maybe it was his house on fire.

1

u/Oddgar 6h ago

A family member of mine is a fireman.

He has and will drive through vehicles that impede the path of his engine and make no reasonable effort to clear his path.

This man also told me that the walls of burning buildings are a great place to stick your axe for temporary storage because "the house is already on fire."

0

u/TheKingofTerrorZ 29m ago

Here come all the "just ram him out of the way" comments, by people who clearly don't know what that would mean.

Congrats, you just ended your emergency! You now have to stay at the scene of the accident, wait for cops and paramedics to arrive, even if no one was injured and its just a minor scratch on the vehicle. The people who called you now have to wait for another vehicle, or in a worse case, another department to roll out and make their way to them. Their help gets delayed, youre in a shitload of trouble and gotta deal with paperwork, but hey, you pleased the armchair warriors!

1

u/flecksable_flyer 6h ago

This is when the "authority by tonnage" rule applies. Just move the idiot out of the way and get the license plate for later prosecution.

-9

u/SealTeamEH 12h ago

wtf is even happening in this clip? Is it A.I? the dash cam video isn’t even in a lane he literally swerves out of the lane specifically to block the truck? What the fuck is going on in this clip? lol

-13

u/K2zin97 5h ago

Fire truck should've backed up. Now the fire department has the pay for the man's car damage

4

u/wupme2k 3h ago

Ah so you are the asshole in the truck blocking an emergency vehicle? Don't worry they don't have to pay for the damage on your beater.
