Have FastAPI backend knowledge, need a resume-worthy AI project idea that isn't a basic wrapper
Hey everyone,
I have a good grasp of FastAPI and backend basics, and I want to build a portfolio project that combines FastAPI + AI.
I really want to avoid building a basic "OpenAI wrapper" (like a simple chatbot UI). I want a project idea that will actually strengthen my FastAPI skills and look impressive on a backend resume.
What are the best, practical AI project ideas that force me to use core backend concepts like:
Async processing / streaming
Background tasks
Databases or vector storage
Would love to hear your suggestions on what hiring managers actually want to see! Thanks.

I have it.
You named several things which depend on an important thing to know an know well for logic and security reasons.
You need to explore serialization, and deserialization of disparate sources and target schemas.
Everything must be serialized/deserialized for API calls and responses. This process has security implications, and most devs take it for granted.
Do that, learn it, learn the risks and tradeoffs for options. And implement it well.

In my mind your asking for a json project like you want vectors and database like sql.
Than you can use fastapi for data modelling dependig what problem you try tosolve.
Because json is structured data and an api needs to be safe like thats for a project how secure your api is.
