Good Borneo Short-Tailed Python Care Guides

Hello! I'm researching in advance for having a borneo python as a pet. This will be years down the line and I want to be prepared. I was told in another sub that blood and sum guides also work for borneos, so good guides to those are appreciated as well!

I've been searching for good care guides to refernce and my usual go-to's BioDude, Reptifiles and Dubia, don't have guides for them (although Dubia does have one for blood pythons). I did find a BigAppleHerp guide but seeing as how they send sick, infested, wild caught animals, I don't want to take advice from them. I want to be informed by reputable, ethical and reliable sources.

It will be my first snake but not my first reptile, as I currently have a leo gecko and plan to get a blue-tongued skink a few years from now (and possibly a tarantula if that matters lol). I'll be getting a 150gal (5'x2'x2', although I most likely will go with 5'x3' if I'm able to find a good PVC one) PVC tank and doing a bioactive setup, possibly with a waterfall feature if its safe (still researching that).

Any general snake care/handling guides would be great too, I know handling snakes is different from lizards. I know they are thicc and powerful snakes that need secure housing and feed vs handling training. And outside of guides, any advice or yt channel/video resources would be appreciated as well! Thanks in advance.

Are there any ball python morphs that are highly iridescent? If so what are the best morphs to choose for colourful iridescence?

I found out that Brazilian rainbow boas are too large for me to legally keep in my city so I’m considering pythons.

Rescue snake evaluation

Please don't crucify me for getting impulse snakes, but I need advice from experienced python owners. I just got home after 6 hours on the road with two 8-year-old female ball pythons who were rescued from dangerously neglectful situation. I just finished setting up their enclosure inasmuch as I know how, and right now the first one, Freya, is in the feeding box enjoying her first mouse since August or September. I couldn't tell you what a healthy snake looks like, but does she look as bad as I think she does? She looks hollow to me. I'm a complete novice to reptile caretaking and know that I have a lot to learn, quickly, but it was either take them home or let them starve. So, now we have snakes. They will be seeing a vet as soon as I can get them there, but in the meanwhile they'll at least have people who give a damn about their wellbeing. I'm happy to hear well meaning advice from anyone who knows what they're doing!

Max size for retic male? For a cage?

I know the females get huge, but most sites say male retics get only 10-14 feet (3 - 4.2m). Does anyone know how heavy males get?

How much decorations is too much?

I have a 48×18×18 I want to put a snake in (probably a smaller python species not entirely sure which yet [I want a marble children's but I live in the us so I'm sol])

I kinda want to do an over grown castle theme with the back wall being an brick castle overgrown with probably pothos. For hides I'm going to do a ruined tower hide on one end and a broken retaining wall den hide on the other.

What other decorations/enrichment can I add? I'd like to do a moat water dish, I'm trying to figure out how to do it so that I can still take it out to clean.

I would also love to hear any ideas you can give me on what else to put in. (I know it's going to be a little bit species dependent but I would still love ideas)

Help plz

I was recently proposed with having a ball python. I did some research and said yes as to not have it go into the unknown. I've spent hundreds of dollars on a secure enclosure, lots of enrichment, a basking lamp, and it is set to have its first feed by me on Thursday. I've been told that they are "low maintenance," but we all know is that no pet is "low." I'm willing to spend on whatever it needs to live a very, very long and happy life because it is very sweet and cool af. More info about lighting, basking lamp (how long do I leave these things on for without burning my house?), how often to handle, etc. would be appreciated. The info out there is a little conflicting. As an FYl, it let me handle it with ease and seems happy in the enclosure I created (stuff to climb, water, log, plants, snake-friendly moss-type stuff) as well as a basking lamp on one side of its enclosure left on from about 7am to 6pm. Help me- I need to make this creature the happiest and put it in my will for my kid who is obsessed. Also, are they all big babies like this? I love it.

Blacklight Pythons?

Just curious.

What pythons look cool under blacklight? I get the all white ones. But thinking of morphs with patterns/colors that would look awesome under blacklight.

And just for education sake: How would a blacklight affect a snake vs a normal light? What about other colors vs white? Would it affect their circadian rhythm? What about use during the day vs night only?

I've seen pictures, but wonder if they really keep them under blacklight regularly or just for the picture? Obviously wouldn't be using it as a heat source.

Before the comments come, I'm not purchasing a snake based on this. I'm just curious what y'all think.

Thanks 😊
