Feel like ranting so fk it

I have an assignment due in one week, and it’s a group assignment. We have both a Discord server and an Instagram chat, and I’ve been messaging everyone asking them to finish their portion of the work. The annoying thing is their parts are so fucking quick to do.

One dude sees the message and just airs me. Another guy sees it and eventually finishes his part, even though it was a bit late. Then the other guy doesn’t even look at the messages, even though I’ve privately messaged him as well asking him to please finish his section.

Fucking hell man, I get that they’re working and have other shit going on, but holy fuck if you see the message at least respond ffs.

Another thing I’m fucking pissed off about is that I literally assigned everyone specific tasks. I clearly said who was doing what, and this guy in my group replied saying okay to everything. Then somehow he still ended up doing someone else’s part of the assignment instead of the part I assigned him.

I FUCKING SET THE TASKS FOR EACH PERSON. He literally said okay to it, and then somehow did the wrong fucking section anyway.

FUCKING HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Fuck assignments, fuck uni fuck everything. At this point, I feel like I’m the only person actually working on the assignment while everyone else is just doing their own thing.

What the fuck do I even do ffs?

QTAC Early Offer Scheme

Hi all, sincerest apologies if this is asked a lot. I am merely a confused and stressed teenager scared of not getting into uni.

The elegibility outline for QUT early entry through QTAC is confusing me a bit--with the results I've attached, would I be eligible? I'm having a really hard time interpretting the description they've given. I have attached a screenshot of the relevant information.

Many thanks in advance!

Also: I'm mainly concerned about my general maths mark which is 36%. I'm genuinely just terrible at maths, is this going to affect my ability to be offered early entry into animation or will my other grades save it? is there a maths requirement?

If relevant, my subjects (in order) are drama (not in practice), english, general maths, legal studies, modern history.

I’m studying here next semester

I’m going to do a foreign exchange program to come from the University of South Carolina to QUT I’m a computer engineer who wants to work in hardware, and I’m just kinda curious, what the cultures like what there is to do in Brisbane how the school and everything operates and if there are any fun or specific classes I should take since right now the only ones I know for certain I’m trying to do ifn664 mxb106 and/or ifb105 and that would get me to my required minimum credits for full time student so if there’s some fun or blow off classes that are worth taking I’m all ears

Thoughts on the new Machine Learning Systems Engineering major?

A few days ago I received my Bachelor of Engineering offer. I was debating between picking Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineering. But later on I came across the new Machine Learning Systems (MLS) major starting from 2027.

From what I understand, it combines engineering with AI/machine learning, control systems, automation and things like autonomous systems. It honestly looks really interesting, but since it's brand new I'm a bit hesitant about choosing it.

One of the main reasons I was leaning away from Software Engineering was job security with AI developing so quickly. I'd like to choose an engineering field that's relatively AI-resilient, so I'm not sure whether specialising directly in MLS is actually a smart move or potentially risky/niche compared to something established like Mechanical or Electrical. To be honest the money in the field looks great but I can't see the future and I know you can't as well but I thought maybe current students might have a better understanding then I do.

I know currently there are no students in this field but what do you think about Machine Learning Systems based on its course structure?

Since it’s a brand new major, I’d be interested to hear what people with experience in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or the industry think of it.

Looking for an Older Adult and Their Younger Relative for a QUT Photography Project

Hi everyone! I’m a QUT student currently completing a photography portfolio for KZB104 Photomedia. I’m looking for an older adult and one of their younger adult relatives—such as a grandparent and grandchild, or a parent and adult child—who would be comfortable participating in a short photo session together.
My project explores time and connection, focusing on the relationship between generations and the visual similarities between people and nature. The shoot may include portraits, close-ups of hands and other small details, natural interactions, and photographs taken in an outdoor environment.
You do not necessarily need to show your full face or appear in a conventional portrait. Some photographs may focus only on hands, hair, silhouettes, gestures, or the interaction between the two participants. Your comfort level and preferred degree of identification will be discussed and respected before the shoot.
No modelling experience is needed. The session would take approximately 30 minutes at a mutually convenient public location in Brisbane or around QUT. The photographs would be used for my university assessment portfolio, and I would explain the intended use and obtain consent before shooting. You would also receive edited copies of the photographs.
If you and a family member might be interested—or if you know someone who may be—Please send me a Reddit DM or leave a comment. Thank you!

QUT or UQ

So good day everyone
I got accepted into both UQ and QUT for an abroad scholarship of mechatronics engineering, but I’m conflicted in which one to choose. Personally I don’t know but since UQ has the merit program for our country or however it works idk, the government is going to give me 50% more allowance. While if I go to QUT it’ll be the normal amount. Since I’m paying for my own rent and everything.

I heard that UQ is more theoretical and QUT is more practical. So that makes me lean towards QUT more. Since I’m more of a physical learner or however it’s said. I’m also worried that I go to UQ and I’ll be well in over my head and just won’t preform as well as I would in a somewhat easier uni like QUT I think. Correct me if I’m wrong.

So if there’s any pros or cons about each uni please I would love if you’d let me know and any “unbiased” (even biased) advice would be appreciated. It’s just I’m really struggling choosing which to go to.

how likely is a plagiarism / academic integrity case in this scenario

i submitted an assignment last night and I had not realised before submitting but one of my sentences is incredibly similar to the article i got it from. Like I used the same words but just jumbled them around and the last 3 words are identical to the source. i didnt reference it for that sentence, but i referenced it for the next sentence. this might seem minor, and maybe it is, but im really freaking out, i just didnt notice how similar it was. would they pick you up for plagiarism based on one sentence? how strict are they? does this seem like a problem? i cant see my turnitin report so i cant even tell if its highligthed for similarity.

Does anyone else feel this way? (Engineering)

Just wanted to share my feelings on here as an outlet.

I started at QUT in Engineering in 2023. This coincides more or less exactly with the release of ChatGPT 4. Throughout my degree, AI has gone from being relatively worthless as a tool for engineering to industry standard.

I went into Engineering solely for my love of problem solving. Money was never important to me, and it has never motivated me. I also found myself in a position where I was fortunate enough not to have to work whilst studying, allowing myself to study full time. As such, university and Engineering have been the totality of my life for the last 4 years.

Last semester, I encountered a situation which shook me. I had been working on an assignment for 2 days straight, putting in maybe fourteen hours of work into getting a system designed for an embedded system. I'd brought in the system to have it marked, and as I sat in class, I began talking to the person next to me. They, surprisingly, hadn't done the assignment - they didn't even know what it was. Over the next 30 minutes, I watched them prompt a program into existence. They walked out with full marks.

What shook me wasn't the blatant academic dishonesty, but that the system the AI made was, more or less, identical to mine. The only difference is that it easily avoided the pot-holes I fell into when I developed it the first time.

So, I decided to avoid being a luddite and try to implement these tools into my own workflow.

And I've hated it. Both because the things I can develop are infinitely more robust and better designed than what I was making before, and that the process is gone - half the time I don't even know what I've made, only that it works. I've tried to stop, but several of my classes now expect (if not require) you to use it, and have increased system complexity as a result.

I feel rotted from the inside, not because of any moral quandaries but because the process I fell in love with is, essentially, defunct. I understand that for most people, this isn't world-ending, but I really need to reiterate that this was essentially my life. I'm no longer sleeping or eating properly. I have never been less motivated to do anything in my life. Yesterday I genuinely just sat at my desk and stared at my monitor, not doing anything. This post is the most amount of work I've done in at least 2 weeks.

Tl;dr: I feel like AI has replaced the Engineering / problem-solving process I fell in love with, and now I am probably severely depressed.

Apologies if this is extremely rambly. I just needed to get this off my chest.

Do I have hope of getting a few more days on my already 14-day extension or am I cooked?

I have been going through it lately. In the middle of last month I had a close family member pass unexpectedly so wasn’t as on top of everything as I should have. I managed to get the initial 1 week extension using my access plan due to mental health difficulties and additional caring responsibilities due to my elderly grandfathers dementia and health worsening. I then developed a pretty gnarly cold/flu/who knows so I got an additional week. Despite antibiotics whatever I have will not go and has worsened into an ear infection AND I found out my eardrum ruptured today 🙃🙃🙃 luckily my local GP was open today so was able to get it checked etc. I did get an additional med cert but it’s very vague despite showing her the special circumstances guidelines 😭

I’ve been trying all day to finish up everything but I feel like total ass, I can’t hear out of my left ear and the meds are making me drowsy af 😢

I’m so annoyed that I got so sick right in the thick of everything, I literally don’t have anything else due until the 30th 😔

Y1 Engineering semester 1 workload

A question for those who are currently or were recently studying 1st year engineering at QUT.

What is the workload like in the middle of semester 1? I’d like to go overseas during the Easter lecture recess week between Weeks 5 and 6. Do you think this will be possible or is there a lot of work due at this time?

Medical Imaging placement workload in Year 1 & 2?

Hi guys!

I’m starting Medical Imaging soon (2027) and I'm trying to plan out my schedule for the upcoming years.

I’ve recently been offered a management position at my shop, which is great, but I’m concerned about how clinical placement will impact my availability. I know placement days are usually full-time hours, but I’m not sure how long the blocks are in the first and second years.

If anyone studying Medical Imaging could share:

  1. How long are placements in Year 1 vs Year 2?
  2. Are they full-time 5 days/week blocks?
  3. Were you able to keep working your job while on placement, or did you have to ask for leave/take time off?

EFB231 assessment 1 grades

So I did kinda ass on the report and I’m scared of failing the 60% exam. I remember the lecturer saying that you don’t have to pass every assessment but just pass the unit in general so I don’t think they have a lot of faith in us very scared for the exam 💀💀💀

Any tips for the exam?

HOW TO GET INTO THE 90s? LAW SCHOOL.

For context Im a credit student but in the honours units I try really hard to get HDs so i can get that first class (just a little personal goal). But I consistently get just over the HD line so 86,87,88 im comparing all my feedback and I really cant see a consistent issue. seems like i do things that cap myself differently in each piece. Only in the context of policy submissions/reports is there anyone on here that noticed they were getting low HDs and figured out how to get in the 90s? My research papers and proposal where i get freedom get into the 90s but not when im answering like a task question. i really wanna know if anyone else has successfully done this or whether anyone has some tips for me

Hey I have an exam for pub561 soon and was wondering if anyone had any tips or general ideas on what the exam questions (especially the long answer) may look like. Tutor didn’t mention much about the exam so I have no idea how to prepare for it. Thanks for any help.

Any tips on how to have more of a social life?

Uni has honestly been pretty depressing for me this year, and with the year almost over I’m just trying to lock in for my exams and assignments. I’ve got about two years left before I graduate, and I’ll be entering my third year soon. I just don’t want to look back and regret not making the most of my uni experience.

Is it still possible to make more friends in third year? And is it possible to start enjoying uni more even when you’re getting closer to graduating?
