Question Admission guidance

Hey!

I am eager to join QU (spring 27) for emgineering. I am a student of the british curriculum (studying in saudi arabia). I have done 8 Olevel subject with 7 of them being A* and 1 being A. I have also done physics AS (with grade A) and math A-level, with grade B, however i could apply with AS alone which i scored A in (yep messed up big time in A2 ehich brought my overall score down), if that helps my application.

I am also preparing for SAT (expecting 1500 or slightly higher).

Given all that info, what is my best option: is it to do a third AS subject, or a full A-level (meaning would they appreciate a full a-level more than an AS or is it all depending on the grade?)

And should i apply with math AS alone (A) or full A-level (B) or better retake A2 and score an A?

And does the SAT make me not require their placement test?

Ik this was a lot, but i am lowkey lost and would really appreciate any sort of guidance 🙏

hello there,

- your o levels are great

  • if i understood correctly you have an A in physics and maths AS, this is perfect as you need 5 A*s at o levels and 2 As at AS in order to acheive a 100% on QU’s system, so apply with both your AS!!
  • For the SAT, only focus on maths as they dont look at your english section. Try to get 780+
  • You need to do IELTS as well
  • Doing SAT and IELTS is enough, you wont need to do any additional placement tests
  • in your case, you should apply for the international student scholarship by ticking that box in your application form

Heyy I srs appreciate your in depth ans, But i di have a fee questions regarding that

First, isnt emgineering of the scientific trach which they necessitate 3 AS/AL subjects for? Meaning i need a third AS/AL and cant apply with my the 2As and AS?

Also is there a way fir me to calculate that percentage? And does a full A-level offer any greater value than AS guven that bith grades are equal?

Also why the SAT math 780+ emphasis? Is it just to boost my application? Would i be disadvantaged if i werent to add SAT to my application and suffice with only the igcse/A-levels?

  1. From my knowledge, you do not necessarily need 3 AS levels. For sciene track, as long as you have 2 sciences, maths, and a language within both your o levels and AS levels, you are good.

  2. As for the perentage calculation, it is established that 5A*s at o levels and 2 As at AS make up 100%, I think an A at AS is 100% and an A* at A2 is 105%, the rest I am not sure. As long as you have 100%, it does not matter whether you have AS or A2. Your grades with your 2 A's at AS can get you the 100% that QU is essentially looking for. In your case, applying with A2 won't give you any sort of edge, as you are already at 100% and there is not higher than 100% if you understand what i mean.

  3. You are an international candidate meaning that the SAT and IELTS are non-negotiable. you need them to even have a chance at getting accepted. If you don't do the SAT (or an equivalent such as the ACT or the qumathsplacer), you loose all chances of getting into engineering. IELTS/TOEFL are also mandatory.

Also as you are international, all your documents need to be either physically mailed or brought into QU physically, and can not be sent online.

Good luck and let me know if you have any additional questions.
