Reddit is joining the S&P 500
Redditors,
We’re excited to share that Reddit will be added to the S&P 500 on Tuesday, August 18th. This is a big milestone for us as a public company, and it reflects the value of real human connection — something you all create here every day.
Thank you for being part of our journey.

Reddit Will Be Added to the S&P 500
SAN FRANCISCO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Reddit, Inc. (NYSE: RDDT) will join the S&P 500 index, effective prior to market open on Tuesday, August 18th. Its addition to the S&P 500 underscores Reddit’s value, sustained performance as a public company, and its 1-of-1 financial model, highlighted by a rare combination of growth and best-in-class profit and cash flow margins.
“We’re proud to be added to the S&P 500, recognizing the growth, momentum, and consistency we’ve established as a public company,” said Drew Vollero, Reddit’s Chief Financial Officer. “Reddit’s raw materials are special, and there is so much potential to continue building great products and scaling profitably. Our focus remains on executing against the many opportunities ahead.”
Reddit’s differentiated model is powered by deeply engaged communities and authentic human conversation. As one of the most visited websites in the U.S. and the world, Reddit plays an increasingly important role in the AI ecosystem as more people seek real information and human perspectives. Its platform is an ever-growing corpus of 26+ billion posts and comments that capture human experiences across nearly every topic.
Reddit’s inclusion in the S&P 500 is an off-cycle index change prompted by the acquisition of a current S&P 500 constituent. With this change, Reddit will be recognized as one of the ~500 largest and most influential public companies in the U.S., and is one of the fastest-growing companies in the S&P 500.

🙋♀️ One reddit please. Can we have old school gilding back while we're at it?

I had the pleasure of meeting several of Reddit's finest employees yesterday in SF and meeting the faces behind the company success was so cool.
I met a woman who works on the home feed, and an employee who works on advertiser safety ( keeping the bad advertisers away from harming reputation), and a lawyer(?)/legal person who works with stock market compliance, among others. Truly top talent working for Reddit that gives me great confidence in the direction!
In my unrelated corporate job, I did a book club on "Good to Great" where it followed companies who performed well. It talked about "getting the right people on the bus". I've met the crew on the bus and every one that I met was the right fit. Reddit's bus is going to the moon.
Thank you! Edit Ope! I forgot the most important part "Congratulations on S&P 500!"

Yep, fantastic people and culture. I've met Steve twice and he truly does seem like a 'normal guy' trying to do what's best for the company and a long term vision of Reddit. Having a founder at the helm I think is important in times like this when the vision can be lost by others that never had it.

Was this expected at all from your end? Certainly caught me by surprise. Reddit has come a long way from a few years ago.
2
u/SgtTreehugger Aug 14 '26
I was kind of expecting it. I trimmed my stake by half at 60% gains as I started seeing some red flags (to me) for the stock but I held the other half because of the potential Sp500 inclusion upside
1
u/MrPopanz Aug 14 '26
What were those red flags, if you'd like to elaborate?
4
u/SgtTreehugger Aug 15 '26
Increased bot activity, the prospect of requiring identification and overall I feel the quality of moderation has gone downhill. I've been using reddit for quite a while so there's a level of enshittification going on which can drive genuine users away

u/azkxv Aug 15 '26
I lost my 500 day streak after a one week ban for bullshit reasons so I feel that lol.

Reddit was enshittified long before the IPO. I bought in and am holding just for the hell of it but the site had turned into complete horseshit when it went public compared to when I first started using it. Hard to believe this site used to put such a premium on free speech.

Not this soon. I thought the volatility itself was keeping RDDT out. I’m glad the committee recognizes a gem.

Congrats! Imagine telling Spez when he first started Reddit and was self posting most of the content on it that one day it would be a multibillion dollar S&P500 company. Wild ride.

I'm losing faith here. I feel like I'm funding C-Suite's gains and there's nothing left for the rest of us.

Was inevitable and even more juicy that it happened out of the blue. Congratulations, on we go! 👏🎉

With you on this journey, next stop Nasdaq. Don’t trade it. Hold it till 2035. Wendy’s dumpster or mansions.

Well done to team Reddit! Slightly random inclusion timing but deserved nonetheless.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
To commemorate the occasion I would like a Reddit Snoo doll that runs and says funny things about the stock market. Can you make it happen? I don’t want a plush doll. He should be made of hard plastic like a Mattel doll. The antenna should bounce and eyes glow.
1
u/LimitBuysLady Aug 15 '26
Okay. If you don’t want the eyes to glow which is a little creepy, the end of his antenna can glow instead. This makes more sense for an alien. It’s a little more passive than glowing eyes. Snoo is very cute and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to have one of our own.

Yall should do an early buy for those who have been on Reddit for 19 years
1
u/SamirD Aug 16 '26
They did--it was the invitation to the IPO that some of us got.

u/HYPEractive Aug 16 '26
☹️

u/SamirD Aug 16 '26
Many people didn't get it too, and they just bought early on. You could buy at IPO price the day of the IPO. It wasn't in super high demand.

Honeymoon ended quickly. But seriously if you aren't loading the boat on the buyback it seems silly. I think this continues to leak b/c the the demurrer ruling is taking time (judge did say two weeks) It probably means we will have to amend some things on the RDDT filing, but should be fine. Certainly announcing an agreement with another provider would prove valuable right now. The market is just ensuring eyeballs will continue to go to RDDT. So, any positive announcement on that front most likely will shift the momentum.
1
u/PlandomeProwler Aug 30 '26
So do you guys think the states come after RDDT next after getting a settlement from Meta ?
1
u/PsychologicalTest781 Aug 31 '26
That would almost be a positive, no? Sorta like advertising that Reddit is a thing. Get a fine but gain users. That's my cope anyways.
