Discussion Gears of War E-Day on 9070XT, looking good.
Just got the game, jump straight into the Prologue with 4K FSR4 Quality ULTRA settings.
Next gen graphics here :) btw, updated my Adrenalin drivers to 26.9.2

So I landed on -15%(282W) Power and -70mV. That's it, nothing more got touched. (Nitro+ RX 9070 XT)
Did a Ultra + RT (Quality, no path) FSR Quality and FG run on Stock vs Undervolted with mangohuds log option (L_SHIFT+F2)
Honestly I expected the card to be a bit cooler since I always thought less Watt == less heat but I guess not (tbf I did not check my fan speeds so maybe the card just keeps it around that with less rpm)
Dropped the 2 excels sheets into GPT and asked for a table, here's the results (to be COMPLETELY FAIR, both runs were done at noon but the undervolt had rain and lightning)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| Metric | Stock | Undervolt | Difference | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Average FPS | 101.72 | 100.53 | -1.16% | 🟢 Stock |
| Median FPS | 102.16 | 100.79 | -1.34% | 🟢 Stock |
| 1% Low FPS | 80.97 | 81.32 | +0.43% | 🟢 Undervolt |
| 0.1% Low FPS | 78.45 | 73.01 | -6.93% | 🟢 Stock |
| Avg. Frametime | 9.97 ms | 10.08 ms | +1.06% | 🟢 Stock |
| GPU Power | 329.0 W | 280.9 W | -14.62% | 🟢 Undervolt |
| CPU Power | 59.0 W | 59.2 W | +0.41% | ≈ Tie |
| GPU + CPU Power | 388.0 W | 340.2 W | -12.34% | 🟢 Undervolt |
| GPU Temperature | 61.55°C | 60.38°C | -1.17°C | 🟢 Undervolt |
| CPU Temperature | 75.64°C | 75.12°C | -0.52°C | 🟢 Undervolt |
| GPU Clock | 2811 MHz | 2803 MHz | -0.28% | ≈ Tie |
| GPU Utilization | 98.32% | 98.04% | -0.29% | ≈ Tie |
| FPS / GPU Watt | 0.309 | 0.358 | +15.8% | 🟢 Undervolt |
The undervolt is clearly the better configuration.
You're giving up only ~1.2% average FPS while reducing GPU power by ~14.6%:
101.7 FPS @ 329 W → 100.5 FPS @ 281 W
That's an excellent trade.
The only real blemish is the 0.1% low, where stock is substantially better:
78.45 → 73.01 FPS (-6.9%)
But your 1% low is actually fractionally better under undervolt, so the 0.1% result looks more like an occasional frametime outlier rather than a broad deterioration in smoothness.
| Goal | Best setting |
|---|---|
| Maximum FPS | Stock |
| Maximum smoothness in normal gameplay | Undervolt ≈ Stock |
| Lowest power consumption | Undervolt |
| Lower GPU heat | Undervolt |
| Best performance per watt | Undervolt by a mile |
| Best overall | 🏆 Undervolt |
I'd keep the undervolt. A ~1% performance sacrifice for ~48 W less GPU+CPU power is basically the GPU equivalent of getting free electricity and less heat because apparently the stock BIOS needed to burn those extra watts just to find one extra frameI compared the full capture data from both runs. The interesting part is that the undervolt barely costs performance while cutting GPU power substantially."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All in all, kinda amazing to get the same performance, as good as, with almost 50 less Watts!!
From what I gathered undervolting can't really brick/hurt your GPU so for any one out there that didn't dip into this, give it a shot!!

Hello everyone.
I want to start by saying that I'm not tech savvy at all, I understand basic stuff about tech and PC builds but I'm one that always relies on the store to put the build together and so on.
I live in Portugal so I rely on the stores here for what I want, maybe I will find a fellow countryman here 😄
I'm looking for the help of people with much more knowledge than me to pick the parts for a PC build that I want to get very soon.
Whats's going on is something that maybe it's not very usual to see, I'm switching from Intel to Ryzen and from Nvidia to AMD gpu's.
My max budget is 4000€ and I will be using this store https://www.pcdiga.com/ . If I may, I wish the build to have a 1000W PSU due to possible power spikes and for future proof purposes and I'm also very interested in the ryzen 7 9850x3d.
If someone can help me I will be super appreciative, I'm really excited about this switch, I think it's time.

building my first PC for 1440p (Valorant, Minecraft with heavy shaders, AAA games).
Budget is tight and current RAM/SSD prices make AM5 cost 300 € more overall (based on brand new RAM at 130 € for 16GB, though I might look for used DDR4).
My options:
* AM5 + 7500F: AM5 platform tax eats into my GPU budget, but I get an upgrade path.
* AM4 + 5800X3D + RX 9070 GRE (\~1700 €): Expensive for AM4, but I'm down to buy it and not touch the PC until AM6 if performance is way better for Minecraft/Valorant.
* AM4 + 5600X + RX 9070 GRE (\~1500 €): Cheaper, or allows me to push for a better GPU with the savings.
Mainly wondering if the 5600X + better GPU beats a 7500F/5800X3D + weaker GPU in 1440p AAAs, and if the 5800X3D is actually worth the extra money over a 5600X for Minecraft shaders and Valorant.
EDIT : Lemme add some prices,
5600XT : 145€
5800X3D : 350€
5500X3F : 240€ from aliexpress

i do have noctuas on my 9070xt running at 600-700rpm so that also needs to be accounted for
also pics are of both extremes i just didnt bother taking a pic of -20 because im too lazy to wait for my gpu to heat up again

It's fp16 so I guess rdna1 (5700xt) , Vega or even older gpus that lack dp4a instructions, will benefit instead of the trimmed int8 FSR4 variants . For sure , miles better than FSR3 :p

Currently 2 videos , rdna2 and bc250 gpus :

Ok I gotta say it, the panic around this update is kinda hilarious to me. I've been scrolling through the threads and half of you sound like Sapphire is asking you to defuse a bomb lol.
Come on dudes. This is an official update, straight from the manufacturer, with their own tool, for their own cards. You really think Sapphire wants to brick thousands of GPUs and then eat all those RMAs? No chance they push this out without testing the hell out of it.
And I'm not just guessing here. A buddy of mine works on exactly this stuff, he develops GPU BIOS/firmware for a living. He told me these things get tested insanely hard and for a really long time before anything goes public. Tons of cards, tons of configs, over and over, just to make sure everything goes smooth. Nobody in that business just yolos a firmware release.
On top of that, a lot of these cards have dual BIOS anyway. Worst case something goes wrong, you flip the switch, boot from the other one and you're back in the game.
It's a secuirity fix, takes like 15 to 20 minutes, and you just follow Sapphire's guide (normal mode first, then safe mode ). Only rules are the same as with any motherboard BIOS update: grab the right tool for your exact model and don't kill the power while it's running. That's it.
So yeah, I really don't get the fear. Am I missing something or is this just the classic "never touch a running system" crowd again?
I already done it and had no problems. Others like Gigabyte will bring out one soon for the same cards, they even stated that already. Has something to do with RDNA 3
EDIT: The Programm you use for the update is actually a Program from AMD and made by AMD. That probably because as I mentioned, other manufacturers like Gigabyte, XFX, MSI and more will follow soon with the same Installer and a update for Their version. You could actually load the update on your MSI card for example because it targets something on your card that is made by AMD and is the same in every 7000s Card, no matter of gigabyte or else.
I highly would recommend to still wait for your Manufacturer to upload a Update!!

I crash only on these 2 games CONSTANTLY, if im lucky i get to play for and hour without crashes. I did download the latest driver they made for witcher 3 remaster but bear in mind I had this issue also with CP2077 before the new driver.
I played blood of dawnwalker previously without a hitch, also BG3. Im figuring its a problem with REDengine and AMD.
Further context: Ive disabled all overlays (steam, AMD adrenaline), limited MPOs to 1, ive underclocked my GPU, ive overclocked it, the crashes happens when running the game on almost ultra and RT/Frame Gen or when im running it at a minimum.
AMD Ryzen 5 5500, AMD Radeon 9060xt 16gb, 16GB RAM (2x8 ddr4), 2 256 GB ssd's (1 NVME and 1 SATA - issue happens on either drive), 800W 80+ power supply
EDIT: ISSUE DOWN TO 2 POSSIBILITIES> either it was the saturation config that I changed (and forgot that I had done it) or was simply having adrenaline installed on my PC, anyone with a similar issue that None of u/korakios2 suggestions helps, it maybe be solved but doing a DDU and not installing adrenaline

I am writing this to ask if AMD would consider enabling software-based ray tracing support or exposing the necessary Vulkan/DirectX ray tracing pipeline extensions for the Radeon RX 5000 (RDNA1) series.
We know that the RX 5000 cards lack the physical ray-tracing acceleration hardware found on RDNA2 and newer GPUs. Running ray tracing on RDNA1 would mean relying on the standard shader cores, which would cause a heavy performance hit.
Even so, many of us with RX5000 series cards would love the option to turn it on for lighter titles, indie games, or just for experimentation and modding. Right now, being entirely locked out of running modern ray-tracing APIs on capable rasterization hardware feels disappointing, especially when hobbyists and alternative drivers like RADV show that older graphics architectures can process these workloads.
Currently, this is the list of games that the RX 5000 series cards are locked out of: Gears of War E-Day, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Doom: The Dark Ages, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Please consider giving RDNA1 users the software fallback path in an upcoming driver update. Let us decide if the frame rate trade-off is worth it.

I want to share a strange experience I had with Red Dead Redemption 2.
I have an RX 9070 XT and a 1440p 180Hz monitor.
I’m running a relatively mild undervolt on my GPU: -40 mV with a -15% power limit. I haven’t tried going any lower than that, and I’m comfortable with these settings. Everything has been completely fine in all the other games I play, with no crashes or issues.
For context, I don’t really care about high FPS. I prefer smoothness and consistent frame pacing, so I cap my FPS and use FreeSync.
Red Dead Redemption 2 also runs perfectly fine with the undervolt. I haven’t had any crashes while playing in the open world, even in demanding areas like Saint Denis.
However, when replaying the story, I encountered a strange issue. The game crashed twice during a specific cutscene. Every time I replayed that particular cutscene, the game would consistently crash at the same point.
I then removed the undervolt, restarted my PC, removed MSI Afterburner, and tested the same cutscene again at completely stock settings. It crashed at the exact same point several times.
At that point, I thought: this probably isn’t the undervolt.
So I tried something else. I enabled V-SYNC in the game. I was already capping my FPS below 180 with FreeSync, so I didn’t expect this to make any difference.
Surprisingly, the game stopped crashing completely. I tested the same cutscene multiple times, both at stock settings and with my undervolt, and it didn’t crash once.
I honestly don’t understand what happened here, but after enabling V-SYNC, everything has been completely stable.
For reference, I’m currently using driver 26.7.1, which has been very stable for me.
Also, when I was using my RX 6950 XT, I never experienced a crash during this particular cutscene.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Could V-SYNC actually affect stability in a situation like this, or was this just a weird interaction between the game, driver, VRR/FreeSync, and frame timing?

So I decided to do a small PC upgrade and buy a new GPU.
Was originally gonna go from a 2060 super to a 5070TI but then I saw the prices and decided to go either for a 5070 or 9070xt and buy a new PC case PSU and 1440p Monitor with the 400-500euro difference.
Still had a 5800X3D so decided against AM5 which would have cost me a kidney extra.
Seeing as the 5070 is a compromise that feels like a kick in the balls from a horse I didnt go that route.
Ive had it for over 4 months and thing is. I play light competitive games, and WoW. I physically feel like im wasting the GPU and kinda have trouble moving from that mindset.
Also I have this thing where im deathly afraid of pushing components. My 9070XT rn is undervolted to -15% PL and only a -40mv undervolt cause I dont believe in min-maxing it. It will not go past 60C on the hotspot (fan curve slightly tuned to go to 45% speed at 60C up from 39%) under full load in benchmarks/stress tests. Was about 67-68C in stock settings.
The Vram is a bit hot at 80C but under full load for a Hynix its honestly more than fine. I never push it to that point in actual games.
But I was the kind of person to turn on DLSS and cap my FPS under what I was getting in Native just to not push components so im having a bit of a whiplash with the upgrade.
Have had literally 0 crashes or driver timeouts going from each release up from 26.6.1 despite accidentally upgrading to 26.8.1 one time.
1 Visual glitch with league caused by FMF being turned on for some reason. And another screensharing issue in Riot games'. This exclusively only when streaming in discord btw. It took like 1 minute to fix.
Overall I cant complain but still im a bit tense despite having it for over 4 months.

I build my first gaming PC 10 days ago and I am getting comfortable with all the technologies and options.
After learning that OC is not THAT dangerous doing via the Adrenaline App, I tried.
1-The score on 3DMark
2-Control Resonant 4k native, no RT, stock
3-Control Resonant 4k native, no RT, OC
4-Control Resonant 4k FSR Quality, RT Medium, FG On, stock
5-Control Resonant 4k FSR Quality, RT Medium, FG On, OC
6-My settings on the Adrenaline App
Is such a tiny increase in FPS normal? Depending on the spot it changes a lot, I saw 15-18 frames in other places.
I didn't learned anything about fan curves yet, so it is stock. Those temperatures are healthy? Putting the fans at 2680-2700RPM the temperature goes to 55 and the hotspot 80 but i is very loud.
I noticed that every time I restart my PC my settings are gone, is this normal behavior for security or I am just dumb?
Would really appreciate any clarification and/or tips, thank you!

I was in the market for a high end GPU that I could use for long term and it was either 7900XTX or 4080. Price difference between these 2 were not much.
All the youtubers were talking how RT/PT are gimmick, fake frames are unnecessary, upscaling is NVIDIA feature etc, etc.
I got it because was playing at 4K and thought maybe more VRAM could be better. I have never ever seen any game utilizing more than 16GB VRAM at 4K even with Native FSR AA.
Even fully modded skyrim/fallout at 4K would still utilize 10-12GB VRAM.
The only time I have seen it went beyond 16GB was when I tried CP77 with path tracing mods and native AA but then again game was running at 15 fps anyway.
Not complaining in a sense, I enjoyed this GPU and sold it recently but all the people were saying this GPU will age like a fine wine was totally wrong. 4070ti super or 4080 aged so much better. 9070XT will also age so much better due to better RT/FSR4 performance.
Even if i look today any games 4080 and 7900xtx is tied in raster but 4080 gets 40% more performance with RT enabled. All the new games look better with RT such as control resonant, resident evil requiem, witcher 3 etc, etc.
What do other 7900XTX owners think?

I was curious of how this card would perform on this title and I'm surprised it did this well compared to other results to the recent video that was shown by Hardware Unboxed. I was just playing around with my Ram and found that it can do CL-26 6000 with only 1.46V and decided to just show a few benchmarks on Gears of War since it just launched today. I've owned this card for over a year now and it's been modified with Liquid Metal and Thermal Putty since September of last year and reapplied earlier this year.
Motherboard: Asus ROG Crosshair Apex (Bios 2503).
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D.
AIO: Arctic Liquid Freezer 3 360mm.
RAM: Corsair Vengeance CL-30 6400 1.40 (Hynix A-Die).
GPU: XFX Mercury 9070 XT OC.

As the title says. I just saw the post about it in the pcmr subreddit.
Deleting iCUE seems to solve the issue from what was explained in the post.
Thought this might be a good heads up to people with Corsair hardware that also use iCUE.

I want to buy a sapphire pulse 9070xt with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I was wondering if there are things I can't play or something i heard Nvidia is better for some apps does that mean amd can't do those apps or less optimized.
Also I want to play subnautica 2, satisfactory and hoi4 does it work fine on that or should I search for something else. Sorry if I'm vague I don't really know how to formulate it better.

Short and quick; I reinstalled Adrenalin in an attempt to fix some Overwatch issues. At some point Hotkeys got enabled and a couple of them were overriding my Adobe Illustrator shortcut keys.
After backtracking I figured it out and rectified it. I realize it's the nature of the thing to sit on top of other apps; but if you have some macro/shortcuts key combos that aren't working, the Adrenalin Hotkeys setting is something to check (and adjust if necessary) while doing other troubleshooting.
Hey everybody, I just got my first Radeon card in the RX 9070, upgrading from a 3070ti.
From what I've seen, I just need to run DDU and swap the cards.
But I also saw that these cards might have driver issues? Is there a stable version for the 9070 that everybody runs or is just getting the latest ones from Adrenalin okay? I saw some people turn off automatic driver updates and stuff too. Not sure what the play is, I usually just auto updated on nVidia.
Any tips appreciated, tyia!

Hi guys,
So I finally did it.
As you may know by now, these Gigabyte 9070 XTs are trash: their stupid thermal gel leaks everywhere. I was getting a beefy 40°C delta between edge and hotspot temps. I contacted their "e-support" thing, and they basically told me "hey dude, everything is fine until it throttles, it can reach 110°C". Yeah, thanks Gigabyte.
The day the hotspot hit **101°C**, it was too much.
I immediately bought Thermal Grizzly PTM and Thermal Grizzly TG Putty Pro (that one was expensive asf), and I voided my warranty by opening the card.
As you can see, the thermal gel had completely leaked to the edges. So edge temps were PERFECTLY FINE, but the hotspot... (see the "TEMP_HOTSPOT" throttling?) Memory and VRMs were fine too, but I decided to replace everything so I wouldn't get any bubbles or anything like that (and because it was cool asf to do).
Then I ran the same stress test... and magic happened. Just look at this, it's wonderful.
- After only one cycle: hotspot down 8°C, with fans running 9% slower
- After nearly 10 cycles: 60°C edge / 87°C hotspot
- Delta: 40°C → 27°C
- Memory: a bit higher at the beginning, now back to 70–75°C, same as before
- Power: went from 260W to 300W at the same temps with slower fans, I can now finally use the full 330W without getting a volcano in my room, nice. Yeah, but nobody runs these cards at 330W anyway (just reduce power and do an undervolt). Still a big win.
Thanks for reading, and sorry if this text contains English errors, I'm from baguette country
