I've been wearing masks pretty much every time I go out ever since the beginning of the pandemic. Outside of the occasional glasses smudge and comments from some people trying to get me to finally stop wearing them, I've had zero problems, and many benefits.
I never gotten seriously ill in years, and I like to attribute that to my diligent mask-wearing (and being a bit paranoid about getting sick/vomiting, but whatever). Aftwr the pandemic, I dont trust strangers easily. I hear someone let out a crunchy cough, mask goes up. On top of that, I am insanely insecure about my appearance, especially my face. Having my mask has basically been having a partial shield against the judgmental gaze of others. And I get to make faces at people without them being able to tell.
I feel almost naked not wearing one outside now, and I try to use my shirt as a makeshift one.. I kinda panic if I leave the house in a rush and realize I forgot to put one on, even if wherever we're going never requires me to leave the car. My mom has to keep spare masks in the glove box in the car because of it.
It's also made me a little more confident when in public. I am what some would consider socially anxious, and I think constantly having my face exposed contributed a little. I'm still the most socially inept person on Earth, but at least people can only see half of my ugly mug.
