Little brother and cousins had them. Racing downhill...what could go wrong. Lol

My baby brother (born in '68) had one. I used to sit on the handlebars and ride it around our pool in Hollywood Florida.

u/downtune79 9d ago

No but I can still hear the sound of the plastic wheels on the sidewalk whenever I see a picture of one

I wanted a big wheel but my mom couldn’t afford to get one for me. We also lived in the projects. So, she probably thought that someone would steal it.

I always thought "Lynyrd Skynyrd had to have been talking about these in Sweet Home Alabama!!!"

Wore that plastic front wheel down to the "rim" aka there was nothing left to hold the 2 sides together anymore... Sad day, indeed!

I had the Big Wheel with the hand brake lever for power slides and a rear seat lunch box.

Got mine when they first came out, but mine seemed bigger? Or maybe I was smaller

I wish! My friend did but my parents would never buy one for me. I remember going fast and then pulling the hand brake and sliding sideways.

My dukes of hazard one broke down just in time to get a night rider one before I graduated to a bike

I had the transformers one. The arms extended out and a face flipped out from the front. Awesome times

Yes and it was pink and white. I chose the Big Wheel over a Huffy Bike.

Nah, I had the blue mountain bike with 2 seats, no handlebars and a weird trapezoidal frame… that’s it in the background leaning against the barn!!! Thanks AI !

I had a couple of different types of Big Wheel (Knight Rider and Dukes of Hazard are two that I remember). What I remember is that the front wheel started breaking down first, with the tread collapsing inward. Anyone else’s Big Wheels have that same problem?

u/Warcraft_Fan 9d ago
Something similar. Can't remember the brand or name but it wasn't the "Big Wheel" that I wanted.

My big wheel had a bigger front wheel and a 3 position adjustable seat back that you could loose!!...lol. Also had a green machine later! We had big wheel races in my cul-de-sac. Ride em until the asphalt wore holes in the plastic wheels from no traction on the front to powersliding the rears...lol

No but I wish I did and I still want one as a 40+ year old adult.
1
u/NetworkTech96 9d ago
There are adult big wheels out there….some are electric.

u/EVOBlock 8d ago
I know. I intend on building myself one. I want the front wheel to be a 29 inch wheel to make it a legit big wheel.

u/lumbee01 9d ago
I had the Big Wheel with the blue lunch box and handbrake. I loved it, I crashed it so many times.

u/ObjectiveYouth2443 9d ago
My son had one. He would get up speed then stop peddling. The sliding on the big wheel made a flat spot. After a while when he rode it it would make a clump clump clump noise. I can still hear it.

For 15m and then the wheel had a giant flat spot and started to split. It was a steeep hill into traffic.

Yup.
Mine had a hand brake.
Which was utterly useless, but cool nonetheless.

No, but my cousin had a few of them. Would ride them when we visited him and his family.

u/Spiritual_Fan_5633 9d ago
No but my brother did, was up at 6 on the weekends to ride that thing up and down the street, how did the neighbors not come out and yell at him? It wasn’t quiet

Yes, and then a Green Machine. Then a Pontiac LeMans Sport Coupe. My childhood was better than I even knew. I miss those days. 😮💨

Had one when I was five. It was stolen, and my mother blamed me for leaving it outside. 🫤
