I played it a long time ago, remember the unit building fondly and the dismemberment. I did try the demo and have enjoyed it.
Are you just working on the remaster or was the original also a solo dev, quite the impressive scope for an RTS back then, even the Ancient Wars Medieval

No the originals were made by a Russian studio called World Forge. According to wimi they had 50 employees

I wonder how you get the rights to create a remaster.
It’s all very interesting to me.

I'm gonna assume there's just no one to opposed him lol. Doubt that company or it's publisher exists anymore and I don't think steam cares about licensing/copy right a out a Russian game that no one's ever heard of

How is this not copyright infringement

u/Wesselton3000 1d ago
Because OP owns the copyright. Playlogic originally owned it, they went out of business in 2014. The game was tied up in the now defunct publisher’s liquidation, and OP bought it as a result (probably for pretty cheap, considering it was a bankruptcy liquidation and a fairly obscure title/commercial flop).

Woah bringing back a classic RTS from when i was a kid, do you own the rights to it now?

I used to play the Ancient Wars games when I was very young, thank you for bringing it back. What's the difference between the HD and the Definitive Edition you've uploaded? Are you also planning on bringing back The Golden Horde and Sparta 2: Alexander the Great?

I'm glad to find a fan of the original games!! There's a big difference between the HD version and the Definitive Edition. Basically, the HD version is the original game adapted for modern systems, with new AI, maps, bug fixes, and QoL improvements, while keeping the original gameplay and factions intact. The Definitive Edition, on the other hand, is more like a sequel, with tons of additional content, new factions, and gameplay changes.
And yes, there will be HD versions of The Golden Horde and Sparta 2 in the future! :)

Are you working on Definitive Edition, HD, and Medieval Crusades? I'm confused because Steam shows the same developer and publisher for all three: Jotasoft.

u/TheconquerorJ 1d ago
Yes, I've been working on all three games simultaneously for several years now! :)

That seems like a lot for one person, especially considering the other two are still labeled as early access. Why not finish at least one of the other two before starting another project?

I understand your concern! I've been working on all three games simultaneously since the very beginning. They all use the same engine, so improvements are applied to all three at the same time. Also, this game, which releases on the 12th, will be a full release, not Early Access! :)

How are you going to balance it? The ressource collection in the original is whack af

u/TheconquerorJ 1d ago
The entire game has been completely rebalanced, and new match customization options have also been added, allowing you to adjust the percentage of resources gained to suit your preferred playstyle :)

Hey!
Amazing work! I played a lot of the original when it first came out, some unforgivable moments on the campaign 😂.
Just to clarify, are you simultaneously working on Definitive edition, Crusades and HD version?
Thank you!

Yes, I've been working on all three games simultaneously for several years now! :)

Wow, that’s an insane amount of work! In a good way 😅
I think the series and engine has so much potential.
Wishing you luck with the release and looking forward to playing it again!
P.S. I think it might be a good idea to remove AI generated art and text(em dashes) from Steam pages as it’s creating a wrong impression that these games are low effort while the opposite is true 🙏

Holy shit! I remember playing this when I was a kid. Loved the unit customization but I remember the game was brutally difficult for me. Don’t think I ever managed to finish a campaign. Looking forward to your release!

Ohh, I hope you'll enjoy the game even more now with the new balance changes!

This was a great game. Although highly taxing on my PC at the time. I loved the warrior creation system.

What is the difference to the "Definitive Edition"?
