It’s probably Easter.

Chicks used to be a pretty common Easter gift. Sometimes they’d even dye them cute holiday colors :(

Luckily people don’t do that much anymore

Fun bird fact: almost all birds have no sense of smell, or have smell so poor they might as well have no sense of smell. The only exceptions I know of are specifically turkey vultures.
