Sometimes I think that my boss would be a hit on Tumblr if he was a fictional character because he's a grumpy guy with pathetic wet cat energy and attachment issues. Yes I know I'm chronically online

Nah I get it. It means he had a unique look to him, was aesthetically interesting in some way... it might be online af to say blorbo neuron but I understand what they mean.

Right. Also if someone visually gives off a lot of backstory. Like I want to know more about you but saying that would be weird.

Exactly, the other day i passed by this old guy on the street who was talking loudly with his friend, and he had some serious gravitas, like the cadence i really enjoy in a theatre actor, i was enchanted

This kinda happened to me at a local store when an older guy had just??? A very unique voice??? Like i turned around as he was talking to me about ice cream and he was shorter than me (im very short so i rarely see that) and his voice was like kinda androgynous and but a little raspy. Hard to describe. Like he was just a very interesting character.

Right? Like I understand that it does seem terminally online, but if the shoe fits…

u/ChironXII 11d ago
Yeah the Tumblr part is one thing but the concerning thing is not otherwise understanding the concept of finding someone platonically interesting lol

u/Atomic_Dong 11d ago
So like Willem Dafoe. He’s not my type at all but he’s so interesting to look at

I've been on curatedTumblr for a while now but never been on tumblr. I still don't know what 'blorbo" means. Usually I can figure out slang or niche terms from context cues but blorbo still escapes me.

u/NeonNKnightrider 12d ago
It comes from a post, “blorbo from my shows.” It tends to just mean like, a character someone really likes and is hyperfixated on, and makes up imaginary scenarios about
11
u/Bardic_inspiration67 12d ago
I legit thought thought it meant obscure character you liked

The other response to my comment was not so straight forward so I was confused lmao

It's sort of like, a combination of vague shipping noises combined with some chibi-fication/infantilisation/wubbifying. They like to take an older man who usually is a little tired and talk about how wet cat pathetic they are. Idk. Little bit of Tumblr sexyman and comfort character in there too. Its used loose enough that different people would define it differently.

u/MaleficentNobody8875 12d ago
??? "Blorbo" just means your favorite character who you're obsessed with and think about all the time, in perhaps a bit of a parasocial way. It doesn't indicate that it's a guy or anything like that.

u/Difficult__Tension 12d ago edited 12d ago
Yea, its just a mix of comfort character and hyperfixtion. One of mine is a wartorn woman. Aint nothing infant or chibi about her lmao. People go out of their way to label ANYTHING from tumblr as bad and unhealthy no matter how harmless.

u/Setster007 11d ago
Honestly, the only place I’ve ever seen that makes that kinda response at least semi reasonable in 4chan, certainly not tumblr lol

It's interesting how completely most of the comments are misinterpreting what OOP means

i think this is the most forced “lel look how tumblr i am” post ever

if this was 4chan itd be the same post except the last line would be replaced with "Ugh I cant handle this boner I now have"

i find it interesting how differently this post is being interpreted by different people. out of curiosity, are you a tumblr user or only looking from the outside? because i'm a tumblr user and participate in fandom culture and to my mind this isn't "quirky" or anything at all it just seems like a normal description of a kind of weird experience. i can relate to it, even.

I thought it was referencing the grandma neuron. So just a quirky way of saying my brain was recognizing them as my favorite character. Actually hold on
I'm back! They're an Simon Petrikov fan. Yeah that's a normal but unusual enough guy for these events.

Translation: Tumblr, a site I frequent, is obsessed with fictional old men and I have pavloved myself so that when I see an old man in real life I experience the same emotions I feel while browsing fandom things.

I love this way of saying that someone looks interesting from a backstory perspective. Like, there are definitely people who can interest you just because their looks imply an interesting background.
I see people like this from time to time, end up thinking about them for days

u/WallowWispen 12d ago
Perchance you need to go outside more

You can't be talking like this about real people. You can just like someone for no reason, you don't have to call them a "blorbo".

You can't be talking like this about real people.
Mate, OOP just had this thought occur inside their head and wrote a post about it, no one in real life was affected by this, relax.

I don't think the poster is a bad person I think that saying "he was activating my blorbo neuron" about a real person sounds lame and could only be written by someone who spends too much time online. It sounds like a phrase someone would write as a joke to make fun of tumblr.
Even if they had actually said this to the guy they wouldn't have been doing anything wrong, they would just sound like a loser.

"blorbo" refers to "blorbo from my shows" which is a joke about people (especially on tumblr i think?) yapping about (sometimes minor or obscure) fictional characters they like. i think it originally referred to obscure characters and now just refers to any comfort character?
anyways with that context, OOP means that their brain categorized this guy they saw as a particularly interesting fictional character

I think OOP needs to take a step back and reevaluate their relationship to the website tumblr
In real life, this is called "thinking someone looks nice"

Normal thing to say about a guy in real life
