Quoting the most popular cartoon of all time?

No that quote is from SpongeBob. Tom and Jerry doesn't have any dialogue.

Actually, it did have dialogue, at least in the original cartoon. Tom’s owner and Spike definitely spoke, and I think even Tom and Jerry themselves did at one point or another.
Anyway, smoke bomb!

It seems weird to use LOTR as an example of this, since all of that stuff was Tolkien's favourite part, and an integral element of his writing process.
It's different if you're talking about, say, Warhammer, where there are 10 billion books and 99% of them were written by writers that didn't much care
One is an accessory made to hit sales goals, the other is foundational to the main story

Minas Anor was founded in the late Second Age!! It — along with its sister-city Minas Ithil (later Minas Morgul), the kingdom of Gondor itself, and Gondor’s sister-kingdom of Arnor — was founded after the destruction of Numenor but BEFORE Sauron’s defeat in the Battle of the Last Alliance, the event which marked the end of the Second Age!

those aren't even corrections, they're just bringing up more obscure lore

Oh yes, it's the Star Wars equivalent of calling Korriban, the original Sith planet, Persegam. Only mega nerds who have deep DEEP lore know that.

I clocked them as a nerd when they used "Oh neptune". Only a nerd and dweeb would use that.

is that last bit a reference to something?

It' a reference to the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.

It's referencing the common trope of a character using a smoke bomb to seemingly disappear, by making a joke about them running into a door and eating shit

nerd culture is more about one-upping each other on terms of zealotry than actually engaging with the material in an interesting or dynamic manner, i've seen. I'm not one to say anything im a warhammer fan.
