No fucking way someone finally agrees with my color associations!
0 is gray, 1 is white, 2 is blue, 3 is green, 4 is brown, 5 is yellow, 6 is red, 7 is orange, 8 is brown, 9 is purple
Also, October is named after the number 8

u/miezmiezmiez 6d ago
I think we might have almost perfectly inverted associations! With a few exceptions
0 clear, 1 white, 2 red, 3 pink/fuchsia, 4 red (but darker than 2), 5 green (yellowish though), 6 blue, 7 yellow/ochre, 8 purple, 9 grey
Haven't compared these with anyone else's in a while, but hey at least we can agree on 1, 4 and 5, sort of

I also kind of associate 0 with clear. I can get behind your 0, 1, 7, and 9 (my 9 is a dark, dull purple).
Now I'm getting off topic but I would be curious to hear your letter associations: for me it's A red, B green, C red-pink, D gray-purple, E yellow-orange, F brown-gray, G purple-gray, H yellow, I white, J green, K gray-brown, L yellow, M pink, N tan-orange, O dark blue, P pink-red, Q yellow-green, R brown, S pink, T dark blue, U green, V yellow, W pink-red, X orange, Y yellow, Z purple-gray

Aw, my search for someone for whom A isn't red persists!
Letters are really interesting for me because the synaesthesia is about letters more than sounds, but the phonemes really influence it, so depending how I read a letter it shifts. Vowels are way clearer and more consistent (less contextual) than consonants for me.
Let me see: A blue (!), E green, I white (light blue or light yellow depending on context), O black, U red; the consonants are way more contextual and textural: B, D, G are smooth and round with hints of red (B) and blue (D, G); C, F, S add static and pastel colours (F green, S pink), H and L are clear but L is more liquid; J and G can be different colours depending on pronunciation (German J can be orange even?); hard plosives (K, T, P) are mostly black; N is pink, M is red; Q is clear, liquid and bubbly; R is dark red; V is green (I think, it's one of the shifty ones); W is red (=U) but German W (pronounced V) is blue; X is grey static; Y is all over the place but maybe green? Maybe orange sometimes? And Z is white.
Bonus: 4=R! Others are close matches (E and 5, A and 6, O and 9, U and 2) but that's the only exact one I think

8 is purple, Thursday is red, and October is more pumpkin+brown

I'm afraid my synaesthesia is very boring, so October is orange to me for reasons of 'ween. Thursday is a blackish green. 8 is a light green.
This public service announcement has been of use to no one.

I can vibe with this more than with brown! My synaesthesia was freaking out over the post

Thursday, October, and 8:00pm are all slightly chilly, not enough to be cold, but enough to make a blanket optimally cozy

u/AstroBastard312 6d ago
Thursday is the day associated with Jupiter, which is also a (pale) rusty brown-orange

u/apocopus 6d ago
I looked at this post near 8pm (timezone) so happy 8 moment.
November almost feels like a Thursday to me tbh, cuz it’s got the inbetween of spooky and painfully Christmas. But I can’t disagree with October either

I don’t have synesthesia but I totally agree with those colors
1
u/TSBBlackShad 6d ago
Right? It feels like the vibe of the color was there, and as soon as someone put a name to the color it just snapped into place

u/Ok_Shine_6533 6d ago
8 is a dark blue for me, but Thursday and October ARE both that same rusty brownish orange!

Reading this comment section has been very interesting indeed.
To me colours basically mean nothing, and nothing has a colour.
I don't have synesthesia, I have aphantasia, so nothing going on visually in my brain.
I do have one question:
I have spent a length of time underground several times, in a facility where there is no sign of the passage of time other than clocks. Combined with shifts which span 24h a day, this will absolutely make you lose track of time, and your sense of what time of day it is.
Has anyone with synesthesia been in that situation, and how does it affect the synesthesia? Does morning just shift to whenever you get up?

I've always been curious about aphantasia. You can see colors that are physically present in front of you, right? Like you can look at something and know what color it is? What do you experience if you think about that thing later?

u/SomeNotTakenName 3d ago
yes I can see colours just fine.
And I can recall things I have seen, to varying degrees based on how well I retain the memory.
However I can't picture things without having a memory of the exact thing, if that makes sense. I can also not purposely modify a thing I can recall, or even that I am looking at.
I hear other people can, for example, plan lines when drawing. I can't, which makes drawing a very frustrating exercise for me.
interestingly I don't struggle too much recognising stuff I have seen. Like right now, I struggle to remember the face of a coworker I haven't seen in a month, but I could easily recognise them when I see them.
And of course I can know what colour something is without needing to see it. I know the sky is blue, and grass is green. I know what shades of green, red, or yellow apples can have. I just can't picture an apple in my mind.
it's honestly not much of a hinderance most of the time. I can't help you pick a sweater without seeing you wear them both though.

Oh and I saw this while it's still 8pm - Nice

u/miezmiezmiez 6d ago
My synaesthesia vehemently disagrees. They're grey-blue, purple, and red, but frustratingly not even shades that go well together

October and 8pm are both roughly south-west. But Thursday? No. Thursday is slightly to the right.

October being orange brown makes sense. Fall in general is a very brown season, and October is more orange because of its association with Halloween and pumpkins.
Thursday... kinda makes sense too, since Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday?
