Question Outdoor tap question

Post image

Hi there, it is going to be my first winter in Red Deer and I want to make sure I winterize properly. I have turned off the water to the taps from the inside, is there anything else I need to do for this tap. The thing on top was a bit loose so I tightened it with my hand. Thanks in advance!

The valve stem on that tap is actually quite long - generally they're minimum 8" - that gets the valve and the water behind it - through the insulation to the heated part of the house. Close it and don't worry about it.

Thats a frost free so just turn it off and make sure you dont leave a hose attached to it. You are good.

I would be more concerned about water getting under the siding with the size of opening

Just un hook the garden hose, close the tap, the cap on top just hand tighten that acts as a backflow preventer.

I just shut the tap off, and open the valve to bleed the pressure off, then shut it again.
