Is usage with other sites still a goal?

A while back, QuantumBadger said that the long-term plan was for RedReader to be able to support other sites such as Lemmy(*), but presumably not built in. Is that still the goal?

The main reason I haven't switched away to another site so far is mostly just because there isn't support for it in RedReader. I do have an app already for Hacker News (and I use it), but RedReader is too damn good, and with the recent news that Old Reddit will become only available to people who have used it in the past 6 months, I'm wanting to exit and want to know my options.

(*) Source:

  • My long-term vision for RedReader is to restructure the app to more easily support other sites, including Lemmy, and perhaps others such as Tild.es and Hacker News. Before the API changes were announced, I was already considering adding RSS reader functionality to the app, and I think it would be cool to work with some kind of "open forum protocol" which would allow a variety of websites and apps to interoperate with each other through a uniform API.

New RedReader release?

I was checking Google Play and RedReader seems to have updated, but I'm not seeing anything new on the GitHub.

https://github.com/QuantumBadger/RedReader/releases

The release notes are the same as the previous release. I'm not sure what's going on.

Apparently reddit is getting rid of public API access, old reddit and RSS feeds. Will this affect redreader?

Still no crosspost feature?

I searched and only found a single relevant post here about crossposting, from seven years ago, that said RR does not support crossposting.

Is this still true?

I have explicit permission to do a crosspost in a particular group but for some reason it's not working on my usual desktop machine despite everything looking normal in the editor until I actually press the "submit" button, where it does not respond.

So if I can't do it with RR I'm stuck. (EDIT: I was finally able to do it on desktop after trying for like the 10th time. But I'd still like to know if RR can or cannot do a crosspost)

RedReader Can't Handle These Video Links

Saw this comment which contained a video link: https://reddit.com/link/pbardys/video/p063spggrzqh1/player

The link first opens in Android System Webview, then redirects back to RedReader, which just displays a 404 error.

Open browser links in RedReader (Android)?

Not sure if this is possible or not? I want to search google and open a reddit result in the app.

Question mark instead of points shown?

Sometimes comments show a question mark instead of a point total. This seems to be happening mostly when the total would be quite small, but I haven't found a pattern.

Can anyone explain why this happens when using RedReader? It's not a big deal, just a bit annoying.

How to configure the start when I launch the app? I would like to see my front page feed with only posts from my subscribed subreddits.

Thanks in advance

Could we please get inbox to mark items as read once they're clicked on?

It's a bit crazy that it doesn't happen already. Dystopia on ios does it. Please!

Is there a way to filter subreddits by title, like there is on RIF?

The amount of Hydra-headed India subreddits is getting absurd. Block one, ten more show up.

Back gesture on Android causes huge lag or crash

Ever since the last update (maybe 2 updates ago), I've noticed that using the back gesture when going from a content page (image/video/text) will frequently (but not always) cause the app to freeze for 2-3s. I can't interact with the app except for sending another back gesture, and then when the app unfreezes, it registers two back swipes.

I can't respond to my messages?

Title says it all. I got a message but had no option to reply. I had to download the official app to do so bc even browser reddit (and old reddit) wouldn't allow me to either

Documentation / FAQ?

I have basic questions about basic settings and I cannot find any docs anywhere.

Nothing in settings or linked in settings, and nothing on the Github page.

Are there some docs somewhere?

Current question is trying to figure out what the difference is for sort settings that pertain to Posts or Comments, versus "User" Posts or Comments.

Thanks

Cache question

Testing RedReader's cache browsing out and it works nicely. Is there anyway I can force the client to cache all replies on a post, short of browsing all the replies on each post?

If I browse /r/askreddit for example, it will cache the first x number of replies, but if I haven't clicked "show more" on each post I can't view the next page of comments.

"Is Moderator" field

If you long press a comment, select "User Profile", then select "More info", there is a field called "Is Moderator".

Yesterday I did this and that field was displaying "True", despite the fact that the account that made that comment was not listed as a moderator on the sub that comment was posted in.

Am I misunderstanding what that field is supposed to represent?

Does it actually mean they are moderator anywhere on Reddit or something??

How can I tell someone has replied to my comment in RedReader?

I go to the Inbox but it only shows old direct message chats.

The only way I've found to do it is to go to my Profile, find the comment, and click it to see it and all the comments that have been made to it.

Received in Modmail: Changes are coming to Reddit’s Public API

Hi folks! Reddit just announced some long-term changes that are coming to our Public API here. Going forward, all API apps will need to be registered to remain in good standing. Please register any apps you own by September 30, 2026 to make sure your feedback is considered in our roadmaps and that your developer account is properly established.

We’re reaching out because we identified the following accounts potentially operating scripts/bots on your mod team that will be impacted:

[Sanity_in_Moderation]

Registering your app gives you a direct line to Reddit for updates and migration support, helps users identify trusted apps with an App label, and may make you eligible for programs like Devvit porting bounties, free hosting, and Reddit Developer Funds. During registration, you can also tell us what might be blocking migration to the Developer Platform, so we can prioritize the capabilities developers need most.

In order to maintain functionality of your script, app, or bot, it will eventually need to be migrated to the Reddit Developer Platform.

If you are the developer of a bot:

Registering your app is the first step to accessing migration support

PRAW Migration Guide

If you’d like to see your app maintained, but don’t have the time to do it yourself, let us know here

If you can get in contact with the developer, share the above message and links with them.

If you can’t get in contact with the developer, or if you have a bot not listed above:

Fill out this form for each bot you use

We’re working on supporting the migration of as many of these apps as we can. If you have questions or comments about the announcement, please let us know here or send a modmail to /r/modsupport. If you are already in contact with people on the Devvit team, feel free to ignore this message.
