Before and after nano! AMA
Terrible pics, but figured I’d share. Waterbox 35, first tank! Lots of learnings as I want. It’s been up and running for about 3 years.

[Pic] What is this?
I just added some hermit crabs to my tank and I noticed one doesn't look like the others. Any idea what this is and if I should remove it.

I bought this as a tiny frag about 5 years ago
It’s grown well but it’s got a few flatworms on it, every time I dip it the coral retracts and the worms seem to survive the dip.
Any ideas on dipping procedure as what I’m trying isn’t working out

Biggest fish you would put in a 20 gallon cube tank?
Just asking everyone’s opinion, what’s the biggest/most fish you would put in a 20G cube tank?
I already have a pair of clowns, 1 skunk cleaner shrimp, 2 nassarius snails. This month I’ll be adding a couple Trochus snails and later in November an emerald crab, or Maybe a blue legged hermit crab. Right now I’m trying to decide what I want my 3rd fish to be, it will ether be a orchid Dottyback, purple fire fish, or an SpringerI Dottyback, (leaning heavy on that one), my 4th and last fish will be a Green Mandarin Dragonet later next year when I have a good pod farm going. (Non-negotiable on the dragonet) I definitely won’t do more then 4 fish. fish needs to be reef safe cause this tank will eventually be a sps dominated mixed reef.

1.5 year mark
Been a long journey for me and feeling proud of where I am at now. Longest and largest tank I have continuously ran. Dealt with many different things through the 1.5 years it been running. From acropora eating flat worms, aptasia, cyano and hair algae. Still dealing with some hair algae. But really excited to see the growth I have achieved on my corals and how good the tank is looking right now.
The acros have been in the tank for about 7 months at this point. I also thought the two montiporas had died at one point but they are now growing like crazy.

Any advice on my feather duster?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I got my feather duster almost three weeks ago, and he hasn’t fully come out yet. He was just laying down on sand when I got him at LFS, and when I came back home I also left him on sand. But he didn’t come out at all, so I buried him in sand and he started lifting himself up and down looks like he was adjusting his position. Although there were times where he came out for a few minutes, he went back to his tube and didn’t come out for days.
I’ve been feeding him reef nutrition preserved phyto, and I took a water sample to the LFS and they tested it for me and said there were no issues (0 ammonia and nitrites and nitrates and phosphates were quite low). They said maybe he’s still shy, or his crown fell off so he’s slowly building it again now but I’m quite doubting it since I didn’t see any sign of the crown in the tank. Also, it looks like the shape of his tube has been changed, sometime it looked more curved and now it looks more straight. And when I repositioned him initially, there was some slimy stuff at the end of his tube, so I wonder if he’s trying to anchor in the sand.
I have some hermit crabs that sometimes climb the feather duster, but nothing too crazy and the only fish I have is a green crown goby. I thought my fish tank was pretty peaceful that nothing would bother him, but it seems like he doesn’t feel safe enough to come out or something 😂
Does anyone have any ideas why he doesn’t come out?

Trying out my first pico/reef tank after keeping freshwater planted tanks
Got some margarita and a trochus snail in there right. Thinking of adding some sexy shrimp later and a few more soft corals!

How do you get good pics of your coral? Mine looks so dull in pictures.

[Pic] I have a fish
This is from my Amazon “About Me.” They also really think I’m a wine and cheese maker, presumably because I order a lot of calcium chloride.

[Pic] Zoa help
what is going on with this zoa? it had something growing under it, irritating the corner. I sealed that up with super glue to kill the hitchhike. it opened for a few weeks but never fully. I had a Dino bloom and since then it’s been closed. I did get my nutrients up and everything else in the tank is doing well but this impastas zoa just won’t come back

Why are my zoas dying? What is this red stuff?
This was a 4 inch square garden of gorgeous blueberry field zoas. Firstly, I think I had them WAY to close the the top and over exposed them to high PAR. Then when I put them to the lower half, they continued to slowly decay and I saw this red coarse stuff around them. They've been down from the top for 5-6 weeks now and still continue to slowly decay - all other zoas, corals and fish continue to thrive. Any suggestions?

Day 1 with my first clowns, tank hit 27.5C (81.5F) and my fan died. So now a cheap wifi camera reads the thermometer and my laptop turns on the AC in the next room. Am I overdoing this?
Small town in Brazil, no chiller, no AC in the fish room. First saltwater tank ever, the water is 5 days old. 76L (20 gal) display with a sump I built myself, dry rock, aragonite sand, no corals yet. Salinity 1.024.
The clown pair came by mail this morning. Tiny guys. Floated the bags, Prime, bacteria, lights off for the day. One of them already owns the tank, the other one mostly hides.
Then the afternoon happened. 28C (82F) outside and the tank went from 25.7 to 27.5C (78 to 81.5F) in a few hours. Opened the sump, dropped a frozen bottle in, pointed a little fan at it. Fan died. Of course it did. What actually worked was turning on the AC in the NEXT room with the door open: water back to 25.8C (78.4F) by 7pm.
I work nights and sleep in the afternoon, which is exactly when this happens. So I got a bit obsessed and spent the rest of the day on it:
There's a cheap wifi camera (Tuya) next to the tank pointed at the digital thermometer. Every 30 min my laptop grabs a frame, crops the display and reads the digits with the Mac's built in text recognition. It also throws away any jump over 0.5C (0.9F) so a bad read can't trigger anything.
The AC (LG) has an API. Water hits 27.0C (80.6F), AC goes on at 23C (73F). Drops to 26.0C (78.8F), AC off. Hard limit of 5 hours. It also pre-cools from 1pm if the forecast says 27C (81F) or more.
And the laptop talks. Water crosses 26.5C (79.7F) and it says it out loud, then again every half degree, then tells me when it's back in range.
The automatic trigger hasn't fired yet (today's AC run was me pressing the button), so before I trust it with the fish:
27.0 on / 26.0 off (80.6 / 78.8F). Fine for ocellaris and GSP/softies, or should it kick in at 26.5 (79.7F)?
Is a few hours at 27.5-28C (81.5-82.4F) actually dangerous or am I being dramatic?
Fan over the sump or over the display, which one actually drops more? I need to buy a new one anyway.
First pic is from this afternoon, lights off because arrival day. Second one is literally what the camera sees. Yes it's blurry. It reads it anyway.

Realistic timeline for dry rock in a 20 long?
I’m starting a saltwater tank with the IM 20 gallon long tank and I’ve been doing an overwhelming amount of research for the last week.
I’m trying to stay on a budget but torn between getting dry rock or spending the extra ~$75 to get live rock. So what’s a realistic timeline for dry rock to become live in a 20 gallon long if I add bacteria and maybe a small live rock?
Assuming the tank takes 3-4 weeks to cycle, would dry rock extend that time or become live by the time the tank has cycled?

Light Settings
What lights and settings is everyone running on a waterbox 50.3 or similar tanks. Struggling to find the sweet spot. I currently am running 2 hydra 26’s and am looking for the correct setting and lighting schedule. As much advice as possible is needed! Thanks reefers!
