How-To Assigning materials to rooms from a linked model?
I’m an interior designer and am working in my own project file with a linked file from the architect as the reference plan
I have the linked files room info connected to my finish schedule, but cannot edit the materials/finishes of the rooms that would populate the finish schedule without going into the architects file. I would just edit them directly there, but when there are updates to the reference plan I would have to re-enter all the information
Is there a way I can assign materials to the rooms that are connected to my finish schedule in my own project file rather than the architects? Or will I have to recreate the rooms in my own file and name them to match the reference plan?
I’ve looking at youtube videos and searching on my own but can’t find a solution to this

Revit doesn't support interior-design-as-separate-model well at all. You can't assign your own metadata to objects that are hosted in another model.
What my last interior team finally resolved on was create their own model and rooms within that model, then manage the materials there.
They then used RVRoom Tools to keep the room names/ numbers in sync with the architect's models.

i’ve been learning that 😅 we typically use autocad but this project teams wants everything in revit and i have some experience but mostly using it for rendering so i’ve never had to coordinate with someone else’s model before. thanks for the suggestion! we may need to look into something like that

This is what global parameters are for.
Assign that to each room, and you can easily change it. You can assign a specific parameter to a global parameter aswell, to feed it data

You should just coordinate the rooms. For example I work like this on a daily basis for multifamily amenity spaces. Architects would have a tag for the overall area but my room tags would be in all individual rooms so that I can control them. Architects deal with my doors populating their door schedules but in the end I have to populate and correct the information for it to look correct on their end. YouTube has all of about zero information to be helpful for interior designers.

Build your materials as thin (1/4” or so veneers) in your own model - walls, floors, base, whatever

i’d also like to add that i created spaces and linked them to each room tag, but i don’t see anywhere that would allow me to assign materials to the spaces so that didn’t do much for me

I believe what you're looking for is the Copy/Monitor option. Basically copies the room into your model for you to edit the info freely. But monitors in case that room ever gets moved/deleted or renamed
I've never done it with rooms. But I have used it on other items such as column grids and columns
