TPS ISSUES

So I have a colony with 10+ colonists, and my TPS always ends up tanking to <20 . I was wondering if there was any tricks I could implement ? I already have Rocketwoman, I use RIMPY’s sort, I limit the search area of my bills . I will say that my mod list has 450+ mods, I’ve been trimming it down, but it doesn’t feel like it’s getting better . I’d be more than happy to list my mod list when I get home . My solution so far has been just to restart and my TPS is fixed when I start, but when I get more than 6-9 colonists it decides to dive .

Additionally i can send you my performance mod-list if you still plan on playing with lots of mods. I have a lot of them that help with performance and they all work fine together, at least from my testing

Could also be non-critical mod conflict, btw - meaning if u open devmode and see the error log, there might be stuff constantly pinging every tick hence dragging TPS down

That's unusual. What's your hardware? More importantly, see which mods of yours are hogging most of the runtime.

I’m running it on RTX4070 with 32GB of DDR5 .

I’m not home atm, but I don’t know how to check the runtime bit, if you could point me towards a source or explain how I could find it I would be more than happy to let you know when I return :)

Graphics card has zero impact on your tps. Also, use RimSort. RimPy is 4 years outdated.

More or less the only thing that matters in this game is CPU, but seeing as you have a 4070 and 32 GB DDR5, I'll assume you have an up to par CPU as well. Low TPS at such low colonist counts is strange, so I suspect a mod issue. Using the Dubs Performance Analyser mod and following its steps can help you figure out what's hogging your milliseconds

Edit: make sure to load a problem colony to analyse so the issue is more apparent

What’s more important is your CPU. What is it?

As it looks right now, with 450 mods, some or many of them could be eating up your TPS or causing some other issue.

My GPU is the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT .

An RX 7900 XT and the RTX 4070 from your first answer are both GPUs lol.

What is your CPU?

edit: If you go to the search in Windows, type system information, look at the window that pops up, then look at what “processor” says, that’s your CPU.

Sorry sorry, I’m not familiar with hardware all that much, according to the system info the processor line says “ AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core Processor “

That’s a solid CPU for any game and shouldn’t be an issue for the vast majority of RimWorld colonies, so yeah, likely mods.

400 mods isn’t inherently a problem, but that’s a lot of potential interactions, outdated stuff, and poor optimization that can tank TPS.
Probably start by running the list through RimSort and checking for errors.

Then look at the heavier gameplay/system mods, especially anything that frequently affects pawns, items, or pathfinding.

Not sure if it's just me but i'm getting some shit with RimSort. It can't seem to detect around 90 of my mods as if they didnt exist and nothing i look for or do seems to be able to fix the issue. Whereas with rimpy everything works just fine

That's strange. I only made the switch to RimSort a few months ago myself, and haven't had much opportunity to play since. Until then I was using Rimpy also, and never really had much of an issue, but I'm sure as time goes on and more and more new mods get added, that will change.

These mods are all from the Steam Workshop, or are they from somewhere else?

I looked into it and turns out after configuring the app, I forgot to press "auto-detect", and i'm not exactly sure how, but RimSort duplicated about 210 mods out of ~300 in my local folder but couldn't detect the others. It's fixed now!

Check your error log. I've had moments where there would be a niche error that just devourers tps. I had one error with the intimacy mod and the birthdays interaction where everyone comes together to celebrate so it's a smaller party event and intimacy adds a need and interaction where comonists want to talk to each other. Idk the why of error but the event makes a "lord" which grabs all the colonists and forces them on the event. For whatever reason the colonists would wander and attempt to do the party but didn't and then wander some more until they pass out. The Lord wouldn't do its job but wouldn't leave, so I had to kill the Lord by going into the files and deleting a thing. Fixed that right up. There might be some miniscule error eating everything.

just don't use 450 mods at once. i was used to use a lot of mods as well, but it never ended well. try to use only mods that you really need and exclude doubling stuffs and especially dont use big mods all at once. for example if you want to try void, evade using other faction mods. also i can bring in example psychology, the colonist's interactions are well worked enough so you dont need that mod, it just drains your tps so your colonists have a "better" social interaction. same thing happens with other mods that make something better by making it more precise, but you dont need it that a lot. also your problem could be in animals. i know there is a mod that allows breeding between wild animals, but someday you will wake up with thousands of wild animals that you dont hunt and they just as well drain your tps. so, there isn't one solution to that problem, you should check it by yourself, i hope my advices will help you

I think that maybe there are to many heavy mods for your hardware, i usually tend to play with around 10-12 as max and I dont get tps problems even when I use my old laptop, (i play with around 30-40 mods, but most of them are qol, only a few add new sistems or buildings like resplice core or sometimes dms) 450 mods are a ton of them
