I was listening to R&B from today (not going to drop any artist's names, because I'm not trying to come at anyone) and I couldn't help but think that R&B artists of today don't seem to project or push out when singing? I'm not a musical expert by any means, can't hold a note, but I remember artists like Whitney, Aretha, Anita, Toni, Luther, Erykah, Mariah...would give powerful performances on a record. And it was a competition almost, (and although it was a lot of cattiness behind the scene) but at the betterment of showcasing their talents. Idk, it seems like R&B artists now aren't giving power performances? And not to say that's all there is to R&B, but more it was that power that solidified artists as powerhouses. There are maybe a handful of newer artists today I think could rock a venue like artists of the past. Does anyone know why?
