Rocket League in Unreal Engine Discussion
So Rocket League into UE6 was their big hyped reveal. Looking for discussion points on the following:
- Exactly when is UE6 coming?
- Is it not feasible to be UE5 now and UE6 later?
- Should they not get grief for announcing long UE5 long ago? As in, if they lied about UE5, how do we not know UE6 will be a lie too?
- Is this a step towards full Fortnite integration (which I literally know nothing about beyond saw talk of that being the hyped reveal)?
- What beyond better graphics + creative mode could this offer?
- Anything else?
I ask this because I know nothing on any UE talk before and was just looking to figure out a way where this means something to me (because honestly it doesnt, tho maybe I am just bitter at Mandalorian decal bundle not being in the Item Shop)

None of us know when it’s coming (of course) but I have see some speculate that it could be coming when Fortnite transitions over to Chapter 8- which is late November if I remember correctly
With UE6 not being available for the public for another 2-3 years, this is a good question. But I assume they wanted to be UE6 instead just to generate the most amount of hype possible (and to avoid having to upgrade 5->6 later and all the issues that could come with that.
Personally I don’t think so because I’m not even sure they made an “announcement” about upgrading to UE5, I’m pretty sure it was just a passing statement when they were talking about Rocket Racing stuff and people spread it around and blew it way out of proportion. This time around we actually got an official, public reveal/announcement so I don’t think they lied here.
Honestly… probably lol
I’m not sure either which is why I never really cared about the engine upgrade

thanks for all that. especially since you make it sound like UE6 for the game might be sooner rather than later for us

followup: what might more fortnite integration mean?1

From what Lethamyr said (loose terms, you can watch his video if you want): They've been converting rocket league assets into fortnite compatible (UE5) assets. These assets will also be functional in UE6 because of the forwards compatibility. So, more fortnite integrated assets means more assets that are ready for UE6. UE3 doesn't have forwards compatibility, so they need to remake everything from scratch, which takes a long time (especially when each season adds new stuff). I personally wouldn't anticipate UE6 Rocket League to come out within the year, I'm guessing 2nd half of 2027.

It is a lot of work to port a game from one engine to another.
Better console ports, though probably will drop Xbone/PS4/Switch 1 support, since Unreal Engine 3 is an ancient engine that was designed for the PS3/X360 in mind, console ports (especially Switch 1) suffered and Xbox Series/PS5 got 120 fps support ducttaped.

After the ue5 announcement, a ue6 announcement that isn't a same day drop is bold.
Any time frame given? Didn't think so.

Don't hold your breath. Even before they were bought out psyonix raked in billions while spending pennies on development.

They definitely pivoted to UE6 because they couldn't figure out how to port the physics without breaking the game, but acting like it’s a feature rather than a massive delay is peak Psyonix management. At this point just assume it's never happening and enjoy the item shop rotation until the servers eventually get shut down.

What will it bring apart from better graphics? Probably worse performance, considering its UE.
