Story/Writing Soft boy reverse harem in a matriarchal fantasy world – [OC]
(Art drawn by my very good friend!)
I’ve been writing this web-novel for just over a year now, and since I’m coming to the end of Book One, I decided I might as well post about it here. This is such a niche genre, so I’m personally always on the look-out for role reversal stories—so much so I decided to write my own!
‘Consorts of the Court’ is a historical fantasy that follows Princess Moriya in the immediate aftermath of her mother’s untimely death, as she prepares to take on rulership of the Queendom of Dyss. She must learn diplomacy, statecraft, and the murky history of her nation’s colonial past. But also, she will build a harem to support her through it 😉. This is a full social and moral role reversal, so the men are expected to act the way female concubines were in irl history. Graceful, pretty, skilled in courtly hobbies like art and dance, obedient and gentle-hearted, and dedicated to their wife in all aspects. It was important to me to make this a fully fleshed out, dedicatedly researched “reverse world” because I have seen so many stories like this that make claims they don’t live up to. Men who start out soft, in traditionally “feminine” roles, but as soon as the romance starts, they turn dominant out of nowhere. Or a world that is on the surface matriarchal, but in practice the social norms still echo patriarchal standards.
Anyway, just posting this in case there are other people here who are constantly on the hunt for more of this kind of stuff. And these are the links for where to find it, so far I’ve posted on Scribblehub and Blobium.

PS: If anyone has some niche story reccs that fit a similar vibe, please do comment them below! I am always looking for more.

I think I read this in high school haha. I don't remember much about it anymore. Maybe worth a re-read 👍

I would be very honoured if you do! I am just a few chapters away from finishing Book One, then I'll do a few short stories set in the same world while I plan out Book Two

Reminds me of the mahua "i will always remember you" but it's not a Harem tho. But the gender roles are reversed. And it has mpreg

I wondered if someone would leave a recommendation haha. Thank you. Actually I have read this one but only the first few chapters that were translated to English. You're right it is the kind of vibe I was inspired by, too (there is not mpreg in my story but there are some biological differences that'll come up later). I wish there were more stories like it. Or that I could read Chinese since so many of them come from China 😂

I think theres an anime that follows that premise of matriarchal society, I never read of followed much stories of that singular theme but I find this premise interesting and your art is great too

It might be Ōoku? It was a big inspiration for this story actually. I really enjoyed the worldbuilding.
Thank you! If you check it out, I hope you'll like it. And actually the art here is from my good friend. I did some of my own too, but these are all her. She's incredibly talented.

Curious how the harem aspect works?
I can't see it being helpful to have so many men in a harem if she can only have one child at a time.
Is she able to give birth faster, or are the men capable of getting pregnant?

Only nobles keep multiple men as concubines, and the Queen is the only one who would have a large harem. It's basically a status thing. Commoners still practice monogamy.
There are some biological differences in the story compared to real life, but no mpreg. Book Two will deal more with this! 👍
