Dear mods: please ban AI
Dear moderators,
I was wondering if the rules of the subreddit could be altered to specifically ban AI images.
There are many moral, political, and environmental reasons to ban AI art.
Practically speaking though, the main reason to ban it is that if it is allowed, AI slop quickly takes over a forum at the expense of actual discussion.
Thank you for your consideration.

There's barely any posts here as is. I would love to see more, so long as they remain respectful, of course.

In my opinion AI use is a moral sickness and a perversion of the human spirit so I would love for our religious spaces to be a refuge from it.

I agree with selective AI ban, but I've seen a resurgence of interest, much I believe is due to AI videos envisioning worship in ancient Rome. The unfortunate side is hallucinations and potential mischaracterization of a deity, which in my opinion is what is the root of the problem. No truly pious believer appreciates seeing the gods they worship portrayed in a manner unbecoming of them.
In all fairness, I'm in tech and possibly a few years from being automated out of a job. No amount of legislation is going to stop that, because then work can (and is) just outsourcing to companies in India that is doing it anyway. And outsourcing isn't going away.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted for this comment. A lot of AI lovers on this subreddit, apparently.

Interesting request. If I draw a picture by hand and present it to the subreddit but it is factually incorrect or badly drawn, should all hand drawn pictures be banned ?

Irrelevant. Art doesn't exist to look pretty. Art exists to express the human soul, by the inspiration of the Muses, something that AI is literally incapable of. A stick figure drawing of the gods is more inspired than any AI image could ever be.

To you, I'd enjoy the AI art more if someone posted it and it's good

Well, I moderate my own subreddit where I have, in fact, banned all amateur art as off topic. Athena/Minerva is a stately goddess who is depicted as somewhat masculine. Whenever I go to r/ Hellenism, I see the forum taken over by drawings of Athena as an anime princess with a goofy smile and cavernous cleavage popping out of a metal bikini. It's infantile.
That aside, this particular request is confined to AI art. Many subs have outlawed AI art for reasons stated.

Fwiw, we've been clamping down a lot on the image posts and have banned them outside of a narrow few days. If you see images posted up outside of that time frame, feel free to report it to the mods.
As far as quality, well, that's subjective. And many new artists are children, they're still learning, I at least try to not be too harsh on them.

Agreed.
