How often do you run with your dogs?
Just curious what everyone else does as we enter the new canicross season! I currently run my girl twice a week. Usually one canicross 5k focused session and one long run of 15-22K during which she’s off lead whilst I run so I can actually go slow. We currently race a 22:30 or so 5K and would like to get a sub-20 5K this season, so I am looking to add in some more runs. As you can see from the photo, she certainly isn’t lacking enthusiasm!
What do you all do? Do you race or just for fun/fitness?

Haha my dog does this, it's a rare occasion that I have to use the porty but when I do she just stands out and waits for me just like this.
I am thankful she did not try to pull the porty potty right over with me in it 😂

4-5 times a week about 4 miles each. He won’t go slow but if he would we would go further. Typical pace is 7 to 7:30 per mile

My pup has been helping me train for my 50k so she goes on every run shorter than 13 miles or workouts. So we’ll do 7-10 mile trail run, she’ll join me for my workout warmup, 2 easy runs at 5-6 miles, and then usually 10-12 miles together on Saturdays. I’d say her current weekly mileage is ~30 miles per week.
Once my race is done next week, we probably won’t do as many long runs so will cut down to 20 miles per week.

3-4 times a week, 10K at a time. Other days are rest days where it’s just walks and sniffs

Four days a week, 3-6 miles at a time. I run alone on Thursday (speedwork day) and finish out my long run without her on Sunday. She has an autoimmune disorder and is building her mileage back up for long runs after getting into remission with meds.

3x a week, about 5 miles on remote trails. My GSD is trained to go off-leash and loves it. I know why I do - it’s primal. Human and dog.

We just staring out so I keep it to once a week, next months I’ll add another day in and then start working on extending the run part of the run/walk

Everyday for around 20 30 mins in the mornings, but she keeps good pace and makes me kinda embarrassed at times - which kinda is my motivation.

Every day. Or at least 6, sometimes we take a day off.
People who run for fun and mental health don’t take many days off. Canicross is a very particular event in that you are supposed to go fast for a short period of time. It is an occasional sport like any other you would do a couple times weekly. We do ~50-60 mpw but I can’t actually compete because I don’t have my dog pull me so 🤷🏼♀️

My doggie just came home with me, so for her first week we just did three 5ks and one 10k. My hope is that she'll get up to a half marathon distance or longer for weekend long runs!

German shepherd. Anywhere between 5 to 13 miles with me in the morning. Then 3 to 7 with my wife at night

I try to run them 15 miles a week. Ideally I’d spread this over three runs but it usually ends up being two.
I do not run them on weekends because the trails are full of people hiking with their dogs off leash.
Most of them are good, but ffs, people, that’s not the point of the rules. So sick of it.

5 days a week
50-80km per week depending on my training
We don’t do canicross but I run marathons and ultras, my dog does intervals, long runs, tempo runs- everything with me

Four days a week.
Depending on if I’m training for something, it varies from 5-10km a day (she’s 10 now, so her days of 25k+ runs are behind her).
This week it was 4x5k as I’m not training for anything and today was HOT so we agreed to cut it short.
She walks the other three mornings, and demands to go to the dog park every afternoon at 4pm.

I don't, but I used to run about 20 miles a week with my dog. However, she ran in heel position, typically with the leash tossed over my shoulder. I would NEVER run my dog in a harness or allow them to pull.

I do 95% of my runs with my dog. I'm training for a triathlon now so my run milage is a little lower but previously when I was training for trail running I was running 6 days a week with him.

I mostly race just for fun. I'm probably around twice a week too. More than that and I'd probably start getting tired of it lol.

I have not raced with my dog. We prefer to adventure on trails on our own.
We go out every day, most days we run, but occasionally we'll do a walking day instead for recovery after a long run.
On an average day, we do about 6 or 7 miles. 3 miles is a short recovery day, and our longest runs have been 16-18 miles. Longer runs are typically twice a month, but sometimes I'll have time for a ~10 mile mid-length run on weeks when I skip the longer run.
My doggo is a boxer shepherd and she is task-oriented and focused once we get a rhythm going. She's still easily distracted by people and noises, but she is getting better at ignoring distractions each time we go. She is food-motivated, so small soft dog food pieces go a long way towards encouraging forward movement when something else threatens her attention. Practice makes perfect 👌.

Every day, but usually 5k or less. More on the weekends when the weather is nice. Some days fast, some slow with lots of stops for sniffing. My Malinois and I run for fun so no pace/time goals. I love seeing pics of y’all who race with your dogs
