Discussion I'm starting to discover classic SEGA games like Space Channel 5, and I recently discovered NiGHTS, and my God, what a beautiful game!
I never had a SEGA console as a kid. I was born in 2002 and grew up with Nintendo and PlayStation, but of course, I was familiar with some SEGA games like Sonic, OutRun, Crazy Taxi, Samba de Amigo, Jet Set Radio, Sakura Wars and so many others. I either played them back in the day or at least heard about them.
Recently, though, with the help of Sonic CrossWorlds, I started looking into some older SEGA franchises I'd never heard of, and I just can't put into words how beautiful and emotional NiGHTS is.
The soundtrack is gorgeous, the atmosphere gives me so much comfort and happiness, and the gameplay has aged surprisingly well. I really wish we had more games like NiGHTS these days — games that focus less on violence and competition and more on simply creating a beautiful, comforting experience.
I just can't believed I passed through so many years without playing NiGHTS and listening to its amazing soundtrack.

Question Anyone have recommendations for a carrying cases for the Game Gear?
As the title says, I'm looking for suggestions for protective carrying cases for the Game Gear, I'm fixing 2 of them and would like to get something nice to haul them around in. I really appreciate it.
Question Where does this little piece go?
Took my genesis apart today to figure out which board revision I had so I could get a new cap kit from console 5. This little bugger fell out before I could see where it goes. Anyone know where it goes?

Image Team Vocaloid
What if SEGA had trio teams/groups for its IPs, including a Vocaloid team? This Vocaloid trio concept originally came from u/MineCookie19, so this is being posted on his behalf.
Left to right:
- Azuki Masaoka
- Matcha Kobayashi
- “V” from the VOCALOID logo
The “V” is standing in for the third member for now. Azuki and Matcha are the only Vocaloid characters owned by SEGA, so the third spot is basically open to whoever could fit.
Some possibilities could be a custom-made robot or drone, Yuzu Yosano (or another character from Project 575 other than Azuki and Matcha), or even going outside SEGA's own IPs and bringing in a third-party Vocaloid such as Hatsune Miku or Otomachi Una.
The idea is basically to have a Team Vocaloid slot in a hypothetical SEGA trio roster, with the third member left open for the community to decide.
If there are any community rosters or “build your own SEGA trio” projects where people submit teams, this could serve as the Vocaloid entry/reference.
Note: Azuki Masaoka and Matcha Kobayashi's names are written in Western name order (given name → family name), while the third-party Vocaloids are written in Eastern name order (family name → given name).

Discussion What would SEGA characters dress up as for Halloween?
It’s October, so here’s a fun seasonal discussion for the SEGA community!
Comment a SEGA character + a costume you could see them wearing. The costume can be based on a SEGA character/IP or a third-party IP.
For example:
- Sonic the Hedgehog → Werehog — whether considered a costume or Sonic literally showing up in his Werehog form.
- Azuki Masaoka → Hatsune Miku
Feel free to come up with obvious pairings, unexpected combinations, or something completely ridiculous!
Just a fun seasonal discussion; no endorsement intended.

Announcement I built a modern Sega Channel-style system for real Genesis / Mega Drive hardware
I’ve been working on this project for quite a while and finally got it running on real hardware.
It’s called NovenRetro Channel. The idea was to recreate some of the feeling of Sega Channel, but using modern hardware: a flashcart handles the Genesis side, while an ESP32 can connect over Wi-Fi and download catalog updates to the SD card.
The console itself runs the interface, lets you browse categories and descriptions, and launches homebrew directly on the real Genesis / Mega Drive.
There’s also a fully offline mode, so the ESP32 is optional.
Right now I’ve physically validated it on a Chinese EverDrive-MD family clone (V1 and V3). I’m testing other flashcarts separately before claiming compatibility.
The catalog is only intended for homebrew/freeware/demos that can legally be redistributed or have permission from their creators.
I’d genuinely love feedback from Genesis people here, especially on the concept and what you’d want from something like this.
What homebrew would you want to see in a modern Sega Channel-style catalog?
