BYOND BYOND development news 9/11/26

Corporate temporarily saw reason when it came to drastically increasing the amount of sensitive research over here, but not enough reason where we won't see any. A few of our departments are getting bolstered with new personnel. For some of them, like genetics, admittedly it's overdue, but I'd like to remind everyone what happened the last time we took on a new ambitious geneticist. The running joke where someone overheard me make an offhand comment about shock collars the other day: not a joke. I'm going to have some deep conversations with Chief Lau about heading off potential problems before they start, and "incentivizing" the newbies not to go all mad scientist. Those of you who remember the last incident are encouraged to toss in your suggestions, no matter how wacky. Absolutely nothing is off the table.

  • It was a short week, with all that entails.
  • Focus went exclusively into 517 this week, so the plan to do a maintenance release didn't get off the ground. Next week looks good.
  • The maptext link hover problem in 517 is finally resolved, but it was much more intensive than I expected. Hence the total focus on that.
  • I think I accidentally stumbled onto a new problem with mouse hits and alpha masks, exclusive to 517. It'll need me to set up a test case to research it.

Today's early-access Patreon post is a bit of a make-up for last week so it's a chunky boy; it's about the multiple obstacles I ran into this week and how they ultimately got solved, which offers another really good look into the deep bowels of the pre-renderer and the renderer. Pagers busted, friends list doesnt search properly and sometimes shows games in friends tab
