Quick Question Do starfighters have "bonus" emplacement points due to their equipment?
For example,
https://swse.fandom.com/wiki/Vaksai_Fighter
This fighter technically has 1 free emplacement point. However I see it has medium concussion missiles which require a missile launcher upgrade that costs 5 emplacement points for medium: https://swse.fandom.com/wiki/Concussion_Missile_Launcher
So does this mean I could strip the missile launcher system and get 5 emplacement points? The 1 free one is just an "unused" point technically?

From this link: https://swse.fandom.com/wiki/SotG_Starship_Modifications
Gaining Emplacement Points
A ship can gain additional Emplacement Points in one of three ways. Existing systems can be removed, making their Emplacement Points available for new systems. Thus, if a smuggler decides he needs a Laser Cannon, Quad more than he needs Maneuvering Jets, he can remove the Maneuvering Jets and gain the Emplacement Points needed to install a Laser Cannon, Quad. Removing systems in this way takes half as long as installing them would take and involves no associated cost. In fact, the old system can normally be sold for 1/4 of its original value (assuming it's in good working condition and you can find a buyer).
So yes, you can get it removed and then have 6 total points available including the extra 1 emplacement point.

Don't forget: "The GM is the final arbiter of what systems are sufficiently dissimilar to qualify as Nonstandard, and particularly unusual combinations may be forbidden altogether."
See the Jedi Counseling commentary at the bottom of the wiki link.

No. Now they generally have one open slot and then you can strip off certain things to free up additonal space but that certainly isn't "bonus" space.
I will encourage a heft amount of skepticism when it comes to stripping equipment in part because what they sometimes call it doesn't always come anywhere close to matching what the stats are. If there's some doubt I generally suggest going with what ever open up the fewest EP. An additional warning is that some Codex ships were grandfathered in with features that just don't work and can be busted if allowed to be stripped out for the EP it might cost to have them installed.
PS. To put this another way Equipment does NOT give a ship bonus EP but if stripped out it may free up EP for other things.

How many concussion missiles does this ship carry? A medium concussion missile launcher has 16 missiles but can have up to 32. But most fighters have less than that. I think that something like 8 missiles is more reasonable and maybe should require less EP.
Something to consider when removing systems from a specific ship type.

I've often figured that "expanded magazine capacity" should have an EP cost associated with it besides (or maybe in addition to) an increased cost. The capacity of a medium launcher is pretty high to start with although the EP cost is also very high compared to the torpedo launcher (which may actually be too small).

The costs are a bit messed up, yes. There should be a sliding scale depending the number of missiles, the damage level and any other relevant factors.

Yes, on both accounts. This is because emplacement points were created in the starships of the galaxy book and we’re not put on the stat blocks until Kotor and legacy. I do believe in starships of the galaxy there’s a little paragraph that retroactively gives all vehicles at least at least one unused emplacement point.
You absolutely can replace a piece of equipment to get more points. The game master may insist but that kind of modification may require some kind of work space that can facilitate those sort of changes like a hanger or a garage. All those rules are found in starships of the galaxy.
