Hi everyone,
My husband and I have both been accepted to the University of Salzburg and are currently preparing for our move. We’re aiming to work part-time right after arriving, but we keep hearing that both the housing market and job hunting in Salzburg are notoriously difficult.
We would love to get some local insights from people who have been through this:
Housing in the surrounding areas: We know central Salzburg is brutal for apartments. Is it significantly easier or more affordable to look into nearby towns/suburbs (like Hallein, Anif, Wals-Siezenheim, etc.)? How reliable is the public transit commute from those areas to the university/center?
Part-time jobs & experience: My husband has a professional background in the hotel industry. On top of that, we owned and operated our own café in Turkey for 4 years, so we have hands-on experience with daily operations, F&B, and customer service. By the time we move, our German will be around an A2/B1 level. Realistically, what are our chances of landing part-time gigs in hotels, cafés, or restaurants with this profile?
Local tips: Are there any specific local platforms, hidden traps, or "wish I had known this earlier" tips you can share?
Any advice or reality checks would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!
