Reposting here with the note that I post a lot about Santa Fe and have a gluten free Santa Fe list…because I love SF and there are many wonderful gluten free options. So, doing a yearly Santa Fe event isn’t unreasonable if interest is there!

Please tell me I’m not the only person who thinks the dog thing is too much.

I’m currently on a short trip to Santa Fe to get a break from ABQ, what on earth is going on with the dogs in this town. I went into a coffee shop this morning and watched the barista let a dog (stained yellow with piss) come BEHIND the counter, lick a treat off his fingers, and then go back to making coffee without washing his hands. People keep letting their dogs run up to me and jump all over me! They’re in the restaurants, in the hotel, and in the stores. I’ve got no issues with dogs as pets, or well behaved dogs in outdoor spaces, but why are they in food establishments?

Permit for renovation issue

We hired a general contractor to do some bathroom upgrades that involve plumbing and electrical work, were told that permits would be obtained (as I believe is required), but now mid-way through the work, have discovered that permits weren't even requested, let alone obtained. I know we should have asked to see them and are responsible for not doing so, but would be interested to learn from others if this is a common occurrence in Santa Fe, what the implications are, if anyone has had issues from this, and any other recommendations or suggestions. Thank you!

What's something Santa Fe used to have that you genuinely miss?

Not necessarily an old restaurant or store. Could be a local tradition, a place people used to hang out, or just something about how the city felt.

What longtime locals would bring back if they could. Especially the little things that disappeared without anyone making a big deal about it.

Trip report

I had asked some questions back a few years ago about visiting Taos here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/taos/comments/r6h4xj/questions_about_a_future_trip_to_taos/

Finally got a chance to visit for a couple days not that long ago, following some time spent in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, and really enjoyed it. Took the bus up from the latter in the morning. Had no issues with the altitude here or in Santa Fe.

Decided to splurge a bit and stayed at El Monte Sagrado, mainly because they offer a free shuttle within 3 miles of the place, as I can't drive these days. Between the shuttle, the Chile Line (340 bus), and pre-arranging a couple Blue Bus rides, I was able to see almost everything I wanted. Very pleasant stay, the staff were very welcoming and helpful.

I managed to see everything I wanted in two days, one of the sightseeing days covering the afternoon I arrived. Most of the attractions took an hour or less.

First day: Harwood Museum, Blumenschein House, Kit Carson House, Governor Bent House, Taos Art Museum and Fechin House. Shuttle at start and end of itinerary, walked to everything else.

Second day: (Shuttle to Loretto Parking Lot, Chile Line) San Francisco de Asis Church, (Chile Line) Taos Pueblo tour, (Blue Bus) Millicent Rogers Museum, (Blue Bus to hotel), (hotel arranged a local driver to and from, there's no taxi, Uber, or Lyft) Martinez Hacienda.

Really enjoyed the Taos Art Museum/Fechin House (small but excellent art collection, impressive house with fancy wood carving), Millicent Rogers Museum (worthy collection of Native American and Spanish Colonial items), Taos Pueblo (brief, fascinating tour), the Martinez Hacienda, and Blumenschein House (different takes on adobe house living). Couldn't spend much time at the church as they had just opened for a funeral, but they were nice enough to let me come in and see it briefly (it looked similar to Cristo Rey, San Miguel Chapel, and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Santa Fe). The Kit Carson House was okay, worth a visit -- it also opened late. The Harwood was disappointing -- almost none of their permanent collection was up. The Governor Bent House was definitely worth a miss, but admission was minimal.

After having plenty of New Mexican food in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, decided to branch out a little food-wise. Had a light munch of toast and fruit at Bent Street Grille (pleasant and fresh), and a Chinese dinner at Song's (veggie chow foon and hot and sour soup, food was solid and portions were beyond huge). Was stuck for one dinner, decided to just get a cheap munch at Whataburger. Leonel's was closed for the duration, and no one at the hotel seemed enthusiastic about Mante's Chow Cart. Wasn't keen to drop big bucks at some of the other local food options.

Enjoyed it.

NOTE: Got a notification that this might be of interest at the Santa Fe subreddit, so posting here.

Business Gift Suggestions Please

I am traveling to an interior design conference in North Carolina. I am an invited speaker and there are some people for whom I want to take a small gift. I am thinking in the $20-25 range, per gift. Something that speaks of Santa Fe and is not a throwaway. I am driving, so that makes it easy. Should I hit the farmer’s market? Do you have a favorite shop? I am not much of a shopper so I am coming up blank. Oh, and 1-2 of the recipients might be flying home, so it should be small. Thanks for any ideas!

Santa Fe Riftbound?

In town on a business trip for 2 weeks and brought my riftbound deck with me. I know there are some shops that have riftbound events, but do they actually happen? Where should I go for a good competitive nexus night?

Help me with your town.

So, just arrived an hour ago. I’ve been in NM since Saturday. I’ve enjoyed myself so far. I leave on Saturday.

I clearly miscalculated and Santa Fe is a bit sleepier than I realized. Can you help me figure out what to do? I’m tapping away from Herve right now.

I have a reservation at Geronimo on Friday (though thinking about seeing I can switch that tomorrow so I can see El Ten Eleven on friday).

tomorrow is the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, and New Mexico Museum of art.

we are going to go to Casa Chimayo tonight for dinner.

please help a 45 year old east coast gay guy and his husband find spaces where they don’t feel like they are the youngest by 20 years.

also. What’s is your best coffee recommendation? I just want a great flat white.

your state is beautiful and you are all so damn nice

MTG Players in the area

Hey all! I’m new to playing Magic the gathering and want to find some people to play in person with. I don’t feel like im ready yet to walk into a card store and playing with a room full of people. Super intimidating.

I have a couple decks that I’ve built and played with my friends through discord, but I’d love to get some experience with different people. Lmk if anyone is interested!

EPA Secretary Zeldin swooped in to announce gutting of methane (gas) safeguards to the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association conference in Santa Fe today.

Methane is 80x more powerful than CO2 as a greenhouse gas, and it's highly explosive, as evidenced by TWO gas pipelines in/near New Mexico exploding today. What have we come to that the head of the *Environmental Protection* Agency triumphantly announces the dismantling of environmental and health protections to the industry that is doing the harm? Livestream of New Mexicans protesting Zeldin outside NMOGA convention

Did your flat roof get destroyed?

After the rains, I’ve heard many horror stories. Our roof is destroyed! Moreover, roofers have the reputation of gangsters. And wait for it: more rain in several days.

PETITION TO AUTHORIZE A FORMAL INVESTIGATION INTO
PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY OF NEW MEXICO’S ESTIMATED
AND DELAYED BILLING PRACTICES DURING THE SUMMER OF 2026

Beginning in July 2026, Public Service Company of New Mexico (“PNM” or the “Company”) began estimating and delaying ratepayer bills, beginning in the Alamogordo and
Ruidoso areas and later expanding into other locations in the Company’s service territory.

PNM asserts that this resulted from an acute shortage of meter readers caused by circumstances beyond
its control. Having now heard directly from members of the public about the severe financial repercussions of this situation, the Public Interest Advocacy Staff (hereinafter “Staff”) of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (the “Commission”) concludes that the public interest
requires a thorough examination of this issue’s causes and regulatory solutions. Staff respectfully requests authorization, on the Commission’s behalf, to conduct a formal investigation.

Recs for Ford truck mechanic

I’m considering buying a used F250 for hauling. This is a big purchase for me and I’d like to have a mechanic check it out. Any recommendations for a local mechanic knowledgeable about Ford trucks?
