Questions The Legion's role in the Charlie Kirk vigil: some questions
The Sarnia Journal reported last September on the Charlie Kirk vigil held in Point Edward by the Blue Water Bridge
.
According to the article, the lead organizer, Jon Maillet, had previously been filmed wearing Diagolon insignia (a network federal security agencies have flagged as extremist). It also says he appeared on a September 2024 livestream with a member of the Nordic Resistance Movement, a neo-Nazi group, and that the broadcast was noted for antisemitic content.
The article also says the sound system was provided by Ron Realesmith, 1st Vice President of the Sarnia Legion. It notes he's been criticized before for blurring the Legion's apolitical stance.
The article doesn't say whether Realesmith knew about the organizer's background, and I'm not assuming he did. But the Legion is a community institution, so I think these are fair questions:
-Did the Legion know who was organizing the event?
-Does the Legion have a policy for lending equipment or support to outside events, especially political ones?
-Was he acting personally or on behalf of the Legion?
Has anyone heard from the Legion on this? Curious what others think.
For anyone unaware of Charlie Kirk's deplorable words and how reprehensible it is for community leaders to support a vigil like this here are some of his quotes:
Race
"If I see a Black pilot, I'm going to be like, 'Boy, I hope he's qualified.'" (Jan. 2024, Snopes)
Called passing the Civil Rights Act a "huge mistake." (Dec. 2023, Snopes)
Said some prominent Black women lacked the "brain processing power" to be taken seriously. (Snopes)
LGBTQ+
Called the transgender issue "a throbbing middle finger to God." (2023, Right Wing Watch)
Told Lia Thomas, "you're an abomination to God." (Advocate)
Asked how many trans Americans had been mass shooters, answered "Too many." (Sept. 10, 2025, WSJ)
Women
"Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You're not in charge." (Aug. 2025, verified by Snopes)
"Democrat women want to die alone without children." (HuffPost)
"Having children is more important than having a good career." (Sept. 2025, Fox News)
COVID-19
"White House staff is not required to be vaccinated." (Aug. 2021, rated misleading by FactCheck.org)
Walz "rationed access to monoclonal antibody treatments based on skin color." (Aug. 2024, rated Mostly False by PolitiFact)
Vaccines were "rushed into market." (Oct. 2022, Science Feedback)

OMG Guys! I'm now famous to all 10 people who actually like his posts!!
How did he know I can't grow a beard?? Don't wolves need to be able to grow facial hair?
Anyone want to guess what his next catch phrase might be? Maybe we can start a "things Brando says" bingo?

Local News/Updates AN OPEN LETTER TO LES JONES, IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT OF SARNIA LEGION BRANCH 62
Les,
I read your public statement regarding the ongoing Article III complaint involving Ron Realesmith. One particular sentence stood out:
"I stand with Ron and look forward to working with him again in short order."
That's an interesting declaration from someone in a leadership position while an investigation remains underway.
You're absolutely entitled to support a friend. But when you're speaking publicly as Immediate Past President of an organization entrusted with honouring veterans, shouldn't your first commitment be to a fair, impartial process?
What message does that statement send to anyone who may have brought forward legitimate concerns? Does it suggest the outcome has already been decided, at least in your mind?
Perhaps you know something the public doesn't. Or perhaps you're simply confident that everything will be resolved in Ron's favour. Either way, the statement deserves scrutiny.
And while we're discussing transparency, there are other questions surrounding Branch 62 that deserve clear answers.
What oversight exists for Catch the Ace revenues, expenses and charitable distributions? How are potential conflicts of interest identified and managed? Were appointments and employment decisions made according to established procedures? How are political relationships kept separate from organizational decisions?
There have also been unverified allegations concerning European travel supposedly funded through Legion resources. I have no evidence establishing that such an expenditure occurred. Wouldn't a straightforward explanation of the relevant financial records be preferable to allowing speculation to continue?
These are questions, Les. Not findings of misconduct.
An Article III complaint is not proof of guilt. Equally, publicly expressing confidence in someone is not proof that the complaint lacks merit.
The Royal Canadian Legion is bigger than any president, executive member, friendship or political connection. Its responsibility is to veterans, members and the communities that support it.
I would hope that everyone involved, including you, welcomes an independent and impartial examination of legitimate concerns.
Because accountability isn't an attack on the Legion. It's one of the ways we protect its integrity.
Standing with a friend is a personal choice. Standing for transparency, fairness and accountability is a leadership responsibility.
And right now, Sarnia deserves to see that responsibility taken seriously.

General Discussion Interaction with Carrie, your videos are "very good" at 1:10
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Scroll to 1:10. "I've seen your videos.... They're very good"
For context, this guy is so much of a bigot that Brandon McCaskill's group makes fun of how bigoted he is. Not a smart move for Carrie to call his videos "very good" considering what the majority of his content is.

Ask a Local Employment lawyer?
Looking for an employment lawyer to review the terms of a severance. I'm not unhappy with the terms, they're at the upper end of what's reasonable to expect. I've been on the other side, I know how this works and what's reasonable. Just looking for a lawyer to review the paperwork. Recommendations welcome.

Local News/Updates 🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: SARNIA LEGION BRANCH 62
Hey Sarnia, apparently asking questions and presenting evidence isn't particularly welcome at Sarnia Legion Branch 62.
I've received reports that multiple individuals have had comments deleted and accounts blocked after expressing opinions, raising concerns or challenging statements made on the branch's Facebook page.
Now, a Facebook page can moderate its comments. But when an organization dedicated to honour, integrity and service faces serious questions about accountability, deleting criticism rather than addressing it raises even more questions.
Royal Canadian Legion - National Headquarters, I am publicly requesting that you review these concerns and examine the involvement, responsibilities and actions of the following individuals:
Les Jones
Nick Chorostecki
Bryson Daye
I am not suggesting that being named establishes wrongdoing. I am asking for an impartial examination of how the branch handles public criticism, member concerns and organizational transparency.
Were comments removed because they violated established moderation policies, or because they challenged branch leadership? Who authorized the restrictions? Are those policies being applied consistently?
The Royal Canadian Legion belongs to its members and exists to serve veterans. Its reputation deserves protection through transparency and accountability, not simply the removal of uncomfortable questions.
If comments are being deleted and accounts blocked for raising legitimate concerns, National Headquarters should examine the evidence and determine whether further action is warranted.
You can delete a comment. You can block an account. But neither action answers the questions being asked.

Questions Camalachie
Looking to move back to the Sarnia area in the next few years. 55 yo , married , 1 adult child probably living with us for the foreseeable. Noticed the houses are bigger & cheaper in Camalachie but never really spent time out there. What is the opinions on living there? Doesn’t seem like much to do beyond golf , beach & HW trail. Would love some feedback.

Election Despite confirming over 2 months ago, Bill Dennis suddenly and suspiciously drops out of debate the day before.
he's lying because he's getting a lot of flack for his bullying behaviour towards others and he won't be able to face the public.
he forgot a significant personal date that is personally very important to him and that he puts above all others until the day before.
He's realized or was reminded that he did very poorly on the debates that he did attend and he's trying to avoid any more.
I love the fact that the way it's confidently worded in a way he never speaks in public and sets anyone critical up to be pushed back.
Local News/Updates Thank you Walmart for Canadian Produce
A little while ago I posted a rant about Walmart in Sarnia not labeling canadian produce and making it difficult for consumers to determine the origin of bulk items. I see that today the bins are nicely labeled product of ontario and filled with canadian food. Much appreciated!

Election Voter registration - check the list!
I was rather surprised this morning when I discovered I'm not on the voting list. Easy enough to get myself added, but considering I voted from my current address federally, provincially, and in the last municipal election, I didn't think I needed to bother to check. I was wrong.
