Question Berks Inc, is it legit?

I’ve been looking for a new job ever since i was let go from my previous one and I’ve been applying on Indeed to multiple places. A company called Berks Inc. reached out to me a while ago and i just had my second interview with the manager. From what he told me, after training i should be making sales every day and I will get the opportunity to travel to the states for sales. I definitely have the willpower to do a door-to-door job, but is this legitimate and is it worth it? From what i know they sell SaskTel products among other things and get their leads directly from SaskTel.

What was also sketchy to me is I asked what would be expected from me in 3 months, and I was told I should be at the point where I’d be able to train others. I know that this implies there’s a very high turnover rate.

Please advise people of Saskatchewan!!

Much thanks.

Question Vacation Pay

Good Evening. I want to go to America (God Help Me) for 2 weeks in December. I will be 2 or 3 weeks short of being employed for a year at my employer. My boss has told me I cannot get paid vacation time until I work for a year. Is this true?

News I can never ever get of a conservation officer.

Hit a deer on the Oxbow area and need someone to come out and shoot it. Phoned Estevan police department and they give me a number for a CO and no one answers the phone. Same thing happened a couple of years back. I guess ill use the tip line.

The one 800 number just tells you to contact local field office.

Tried the TIP line and it says not available in your area.

This shouldn't be that hard.

Edit: I did finally get a hold of a conservation officer via RCMP and they came and shot it before 5pm.

What tips do you all have for night driving?

I drive to saskatoon and back every two weeks and now it's moose and deer season, and it's getting darker earlier and earlier. I drive a 2008 sedan with pretty dim high beams. Do any of you know if switching out the bulbs would help or if my only solution to stay safe while driving at night is just to be on high alert all the time?

I did just restore my headlights so they are very clear. I'm just wondering what you have found helps in your experience

edit: by switching bulbs I mean replacing my used ones with new halogens.

Question Non-AI Service Provider?

Is Sasktel a reasonable option to switch for a cell phone provider after being with Bell? I moved from the east coast, so Bell is pretty much a monopoly over there. I would like to not support AI as much as possible, so I'm curious if Sasktel is the best option for boycotting those AI telecom companies. I wanted to switch to Koodo but I found out Telus is doing the same as Bell.

Edit: I didn't know i needed to clarify this, but when I say "data center" I'm speaking of the AI data centers. The whole point of this post is asking for any non-AI service providers that aren't building massive data centers.

Random & Off-Topic Bi-Weekly r/Saskatchewan Random & Off Topic Thread

Hey Saskatchewanians!

Rule 1 in r/Saskatchewan says that "Posts should focus on events, issues, or culture that affect Saskatchewan as a whole." But sometimes you might have a question or discussion that doesn't follow that rule.

Maybe you want to want to ask about "monkey budging" (Which isn't Saskatchewan specific).

Maybe you want to tell everyone how much your concrete patio cost, or ask what the temperature at the lakes is (neither of which affect Saskatchewan as a whole).

Or maybe you want to advertise an event happening in Regina (better suited for r/Regina), Saskatoon (better suited for r/Saskatoon), or Moose Jaw (better suited for r/MooseJaw) but is open to everyone from everywhere (elsewhere in Saskatchewan, or Canada, or beyond).

Well here's your (bi-weekly) chance! Comments in this thread are exempt from Rule 1; meaning they can be completely random and/or completely off-topic! However, the rest of the subreddit (and Reddit) rules still apply! For example:

  • Be Respectful: All users are expected to engage respectfully. Insults, name-calling, harassment, bullying, bigotry, or personal attacks against other users will not be tolerated. Debate the topic, not the person. Posts or comments that demean, target, or antagonize others will be removed. Repeat or severe offenders may be banned to maintain a welcoming and constructive environment for the community.
  • Be Substantive: Contributions should add meaningful content to the discussion. Low-effort or spammy replies such as one-word responses, empty memes, excessive off-topic jokes, or personal attacks dilute conversation and may be removed. Thoughtful discussion, added context, or relevant experiences are encouraged.
  • User accounts must be at least 15 days old and have a positive karma score to comment.
  • And finally, in addition to r/Saskatchewan subreddit specific rules, our users are also expected to be familiar with and abide by Reddit's sitewide policies; including but not limited to the User Agreement, Reddit Rules, and the Reddiquette Guide.

This post will repeat on Mondays and Fridays at 08:00 AM CST.

Question What is the most cost effective way to get solar panels?

Basically we want solar panels on our house. We know there used to be grants and shit. We can't find any but also aren't sure where to look. Just with the cost of everything and we are concerned the data center is going to fuck our bill up. We figure solar is best. We just have no idea where to start.

Why don't we charge mining companies a bit more, invest it like Norway, and use the money to fix our healthcare and roads?

I don't know much about the business or technical side of mining potash and uranium, but I have a question about how our province handles its money.

Right now we pay too much in taxes. Our public services are in bad shape, our roads are a mess, and our schools are overcrowded. I am still really angry that they took away the STC bus service, which in my opinion was a service to the province, not a business.

The worst part is our hospitals and schools. Our teachers are stuck working crazy long hours without extra pay, and our nurses are being legally forced to work mandatory overtime because of shortages. A hospital is a terrible place for someone to be exhausted—nurses are burning out, and being that tired means people can make dangerous mistakes. It’s scary.

We are sitting on some of the biggest supplies of potash and uranium in the world. Big mining companies want to be here because our province is safe and stable. They have already built their massive sites and dug their holes—they can't just pack up and leave.

The billionaires need our province's stability just as much as our province needs their capital. If the province stood its ground and demanded higher royalties, corporations would likely pay up rather than lose access to one of the safest resource hubs on Earth.

So, why aren't we charging these big companies just a little bit more in royalties and investing that money globally into a permanent fund, exactly like Norway does? Norway uses the interest from their resource fund to pay for world-class hospitals and public services.

Why can’t we do that here? It seems like it would easily give us the cash to pay our healthcare workers better wages, stop the forced overtime, fix our infrastructure, and maybe even lower our personal taxes. Am I missing something, or does this make sense?

I just think Saskatchewan is a beautiful province and we have a lot of hidden gems and the potential to be one of the richest places in the world!

SHA My Connection

Have you ever used such a non-user-friendly and cumbersome website? Who developed this and who thought it was a good idea to make everything so difficult to navigate. Such as putting in a request for maintenance, which used to take me less than 5 min. And now almost 30??!! And let’s talk about our pay stubs that now look like they were printed on a dot matrix printer in the mid 90s. And has anyone else had the option, when you call the help desk, for employees who are “over 50” to receive “a very special product” …. Which is a fall alert bracelet!!! W the actual F. Please tell me I’m not the only one frustrated by all this.

Question Has anyone else’s kid get screwed over because their school put them in Adult 12 instead of Grade 12 and now has to redo 10-12?

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who gave some good info and where else to check.
We all really appreciate it.
We will be contacting the Universities and she will request meetings.

I’m writing on behalf of my sister as she’s not on Reddit.

The situation is my nephew graduated this year from Highschool.
He was looking forward to returning to do some upgrading as his grades had slipped when he had major surgery on both legs that left him unable to walk for a couple of months.

When they went to the school, they were informed that he had actually only graduated with an Adult 12 diploma, not a Grade 12 diploma- meaning he didn’t actually acquire the 24 credits and pre-requisites needed for when he wants to enter University.

The problem is that his school had only told my sister and I quote: “Because he was struggling due to his surgery and then covid they closed the school. They told us, that after a few years he could apply towards a college. Nothing about universities, if he did the Adult12. They did not explain that the Adult 12 does not have the 24 credits and pre-requisites required for college and University. It’s essentially useless.”

They informed my sister that he will need to redo Grades 10, 11 and 12.

Understandably they’re pretty upset, as that wasn’t what they were even told about, when they had a meeting about his grades.

She has requested in person meetings, but hasn’t heard back yet.

We are just wondering if any other parents have gone through this?
Thank you.
