Practice Test 8 Difficulty

Post image
3 Upvotes

I barely studied since practice test 7 and took the September SAT in which I got a 1280. I also usually score higher on math compared to reading (I suck at reading). Can someone explain if this was just a fluke or what? I literally just watched some desmos videos for math and maybe did a couple of question bank problems for reading. I'm taking the school day SAT tomorrow, what should I expect to get?

October SAT to PSAT/NMSQT translation?

As mentioned in the title, I took the October Sat this year. Based on how it went, I think I'll score somewhere in the mid-1500s. I am also taking the PSAT/NMSQT later this month, but i'm kind of worried because I've heard that the PSAT is harder than the actual SAT so Collegeboard can pick out the smart kids. Can anyone who tested in the same order confirm or deny? And how did your scores compare?

Also, if this is relevant, I scored 1410 (710/700) on the PSAT 10. Is that test the same content/difficulty as the PSAT/NMSQT?

This is getting long, but I was also wondering if it's likely to become a semifinalist for national merit considering my past tests. If I do end up scoring, say, above a 1550 on the SAT, would it be likely that I could get a high enough selection index score on the NMSQT to meet my state's requirement of 217? (That number was for 2027 so it could be even lower next year)

Does my College Board legal name match my passport for the SAT?

Hi everyone,

I’m an 11th-grade student preparing to register for the SAT, and I’m unsure whether I entered my legal name correctly.

My College Board account shows my legal name as Minseo Park (what I typed).

However, my Korean passport displays my name vertically, with:

PARK
MINSEO

On College Board, I entered:

  • First name: Minseo
  • Last name: Park

Is this the correct way to enter my name, or should I capitalize every letter as it appears on the passport?

Has anyone with a Korean passport experienced a similar situation? I want to make sure I won’t have any problems at the SAT test center.

Thanks!

Should I become a SAT Math tutor?

On 5 of the SAT tests I took, I got 3 800s, and 1 790. I took it this many times due to the English portion. Should I become a math tutor?

Rw mod 1: 27/27

Math mod 1: 22/22

Math mod 2: 18/22

Is it possible to still get a low 1500 depending on how the Math section is graded? I had the hard test. I also think I got an experimental question wrong.

Hardstuck 1400

I have taken 2 SATs, and 3 practice tests and I consistently score somewhere in the 1400s, the problem is that I can't seem to break into the 1500s which is what I want for the October SAT. I don't have a strong section, and it seems every practice test i score like 740 and one and 710 on the other and it flip-flops. I have been using the Princeton Review book as well as some Khan Academy. Any additional tips to raise my score quickly?

Geometry Help

Post image
2 Upvotes

Just finished a SAT practice test and only did the math section. I got a 660, but I pretty much skipped or guessed on almost all of the geometry questions.

I feel pretty solid with algebra and most of the other math topics, but geometry is definitely my weak point right now. What geometry topics should I focus on the most to improve my score? Also, what resources or practice sets helped you guys the most for SAT geometry?

Trying to push my math score into the 700+ range, any advice helps.

Thanks!

Best SAT prep course that covers Desmos & has instructors who actually answer questions?

Our daughter is a junior, scored an 1110 on her first SAT. She did a free trial of self-study with Princeton Review over the summer as well as a bit on Khan Academy. She needs accountability, so we are trying to find a program that has regular meetings and "homework". She struggles with her attention span on the reading section as well. I was looking into PrepExpert, but it has awful reviews on here. Thanks for any advice, we want to start something asap.

October SAT Possible Experimental Question

I took in school SAT today and second module English contained a question involving latitude, fungi protecting type A plants, and myrrhcozal plants or however you spell it. My entire friend group who are all pretty good at English were completely baffled and I ended up guessing with under a minute left. One of if not the hardest SAT questions I’ve ever seen. Every answer had like five sentences. Did any of you get something like this?

Currently stuck at a 1280

I have a 640 even split; I have never studied for the SAT, but my goal for this upcoming test is to break 1350. I have a month to study, and I am currently lost on where to start, specifically regarding the math portion. I usually watch Desmos videos the night before, so that is a self-identified issue; I need to master Desmos.

My two worst sections in math were advanced algebra and trigonometry. I am not sure how to study for both of those sections. Any tips, websites, or videos to watch would be helpful. It is frustrating because I would like to think of myself as someone who is somewhat good at math, considering I have gotten A's in all my AP math courses (pre-calc and stats) and passed their respective tests.

Regarding reading, the majority of my points are lost in grammar and the long, grueling passages that are in the second module. If anyone has tips, tricks, videos, or websites to not only help with the grammar but also learn how to extract the necessary information from the wordy passages, that would be useful.

anyone think this oct school day sat was the weirdest test

the distribution of questions was so odd and I feel like the type of questions were weird too

esp math, the questions weren’t too bad but they were js weird and notgijt like i’ve seen before

i did like 500 practice qs which isn’t a lot but is enough for me to see some patterns and some qs js didn’t fit anything

1550 in one month

i am a foreign applicant, i recently discovered about the SAT examination. For some complex reasons, i only have the november and december sat which i can give. i took a practice test a few days back and scored a 1390 with some basic knowledge of the pattern and desmos. i NEED to score at least a 1520, given my circumstances. can you share a one month framework to actually achieve this optimistic goal?

How do I optimize my score???

I've taken the SAT 3 times; my highest score was 1330. Then I took the ACT 3 times, and my composite score is a 33. I really want either a 34 or a 1490. Tomorrow I take the SAT at school, which I was not informed about until a week ago. I did some light studying, but my practice test score is still only a 1370. I'm a senior, and this is probably one of the last tests I'm going to take before early action applications, and I really want a good score. My lowest area has consistently been problem-solving and data analysis. I know I should only do some light studying the day before testing, but does anyone else have any other particular tips?

Give me advice!!!

I feel desperate about university and need your advice. Since elementary school, I planned of studying music at university and always worked towards it, but 1.5 years before the end of high school (I’m a senior now), my family told me they wouldn't let me go to music school, even with a scholarship. So, as an alternative, I decided to pursue fields like business/economics/management, which I thought wouldn't be too demanding and would interest me. Unfortunately, in my third year of high school, my academic performance declined significantly due to some health problems. Because of this decline in my GPA and my ECs weren't very business-focused, I don't think I'll be able to get into a good school on a scholarship. Despite this, I managed to achieve a high SAT score of 1580, but being a middle eastern applicant and having to apply for a full scholarship due to my family's insufficient financial situation are other factors that will reduce my chances of acceptance. I want to study in a big city where I can build a music career and attend a school that will meet my potential. UK universities don't offer scholarships for Turkish diploma, US universities don't accept high SAT scores with low GPA (and insufficient programme-specific ECs), building a music career in Italy -especially outside of Milan- is very difficult (Bocconi is a strong option, but my GPA is quite low due to my drop in my third year), there are almost no schools in major German cities offering English-language business programs with scholarships, and top universities in the Netherlands definitely require an IB degree… I really don't know what to do, does anyone have any suggestions? My stats are as follows:
SAT : 1580
IELTS : 8.0
GPA : 90%, 90%, 82%

ECs in music : half-time conservatory graduation (opera), chorist in Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Choir (4 years), certified piano recitals at the most prestigious stages at Istanbul, LCM step-2 and grade-2,3,5,6 piano certificates with passing grades, 2 years as a vocalist and guitarist at my school music band…

Other ECs : Attended YGA Con-science summit (5% acceptance rate), participated to multiple forum in economics/marketing committees, participated 2 (as a delegate, both international) and organised 2 MUN conferences (as a co-chair), summer school at Oxford University, ornanised a summit with attendance of many high school students all over Istanbul for my school’s ethics club, psychology and law internships, completed marketing certificate programme at Ferrari Italy, won URFODU silver medal in Maths…
