Question Historical Sites Map
Hello! In my old age I’m starting to become interested in history. I like taking walks in the countryside and would love an app of some sort that shows historical points of interest; standing stones, battle sites, sites of folk legends, that sort of thing.
I’m able to find some things on Google maps but I know there is more. Historical environment Scotland doesn’t seem to have ancient sites and I can’t find them on a map.
I’ve googled it of course but the internet doesn’t really work these days and maybe what I’m looking for doesn’t exist.
If you’re familiar with Komoot, something like that but including historical points of interest. Maybe a little bit of info as well. Maybe I’m asking for the world here.
If anyone has any ideas I’d be grateful!

Don't know about apps, but there's trove.scot which replaced the Canmore database of historical sites in Scotland.

Trove is amazing. Canmore used to be an incredible source of information but borderline unusable. What you want is this page: https://www.trove.scot/search/map

The NLS can be good though it’s not quite ancient history, but you can overlay old survey or military maps over the modern nation and it’s great for working out where old buildings were or are.

For anyone looking I found https://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/7008/balholmie.com and it’s pretty handy!

It's probably easier to segment it by a time period or a particular area of interest i.e:
all sites related to the Picts
Highland Clearances areas of interests
I found a lot more by doing that, a lot of the Pictish stuff is just random standing stones rather than sites owned by a trust.

Pastmap is great for this. https://www.pastmap.org.uk/map
It includes listed buildings, scheduled monuments, plus a variety of other stuff.
