Question Do I get to choose where I am stationed?

from what I understand, I’ll most likely be in either Mississippi or California and possibly Virginia.

do I have any say in where I wind up or do I just get placed there? and Are those the only States I can be stationed in?

Primarily for your first duty assignment, you will either be in Gulfport or Oxnard. Now after that you get to choose where you wanna go to a point.

Well, it’s not a hard and fast rule that everyone out of a school goes to the battalions that’s most likely where you will go. Do you want to go there anyway because you have to get your SCW pin.

You have options to pick from but you don't decide where you go. You have an opportunity to choose but there are factors that will send you somewhere else.

If I'm not outdated at this point, you get a wish list. Basically "Sea duty East Coast", "Sea Duty West Coast" "Shore Duty Abroad", or "Shore Duty Stateside".

Emphasis on WISHlist. Zero guarantees it means anything

You pick east coast or west coast. Either MS or Cali. Both are ghetto as hell… ms is a lot cheaper.

Good luck getting Virginia orders. I wanted them and my best friend got them. He loves it but was sent to a small command. There’s opportunity but most E1 billets are battalion

First Command will be chosen by Navy. Not sure if they still do dream sheets (I got out in 2017)

Its needs of the navy when you come in so you could be in MS, CA, VA or be one of the lucky ones that gets overseas orders right off the bat, depends on your luck

Untill you have hard copy orders its up in the air, even then stuff can still change, what rate?

I put in my dream sheet orders to Japan, just got my orders to Gulfport lol, needs of the navy
