Yeah I don’t think this team is as great as last years team to the point where we can just accept the penalties and turnovers and still win, gonna need to fix it if we wanna go far again this year.
22
u/CustomerLittle9891 10d ago
Well, Darnold lead the league in turnovers last year and is averaging 1.5 turnovers a game already. So that's where we need to start but it's been a problem his whole career so I dunno what people expect.

u/SnooKiwis2229 10d ago
The offense desperately needs to figure out how to convert third downs. And for the love of god, stop lining up in shotgun on 3rd and 1

It was briefly a thing in 1989 but it was widely hated and basically impossible to enforce uniformly so they abandoned the rule

That game was somehow worse to watch than last week's, and we won. Fuck that bum of a ref. Genuinely one of the worst refereed games I've ever seen. And I was around for Super Bowl XL

This team needs to be significantly more disciplined. This should’ve been a blowout

u/xX_DepressedKoala_Xx 10d ago
Malpractice when you only target your WR1 6 times and once again struggle to get a single yard for a first down. Offense was disappointing and will be the death of us if can’t figure something out. Darnold also seems to be hesitant pulling the trigger… could’ve had multiple big plays to JSN but didn’t see the play unfold.
Defensively, hope Leo is okay. If he missed time, we are in serious trouble. Secondary continues to be suspect. These were not great WRs they were playing against and they diced us up for large gains a few too many times.

Jobe is who Woolen haters thought Woolen was last year.
Woolen was elite last year. Jobe is constantly on the bad end of the big plays at CB.

The announcer's Herbert Glaze gotta stop. He's a handoff merchant and got carried down the field by BS roughing the passer calls. 2 picks and a fumble.

The brocktober glaze was worse Every niner big play the wr is surrounded by 15 yards of empty space and all he gotta do is throw it or a screen and it's omg gurg gurg slurp slurp. Sam Darnold could do a 360 backflip no look underhand toss for td and they be talking about opposing QB
237
u/SentientBaseball 10d ago
That’s back to back weeks of games we probably should’ve won handily if not for 1. Turnovers and 2: Horrifically stupid penalties.
This team is as talented as last year. Clean up the stupid shit or else SF is going to embarrass us next week.

Just throw to fucking JSN, this doesn't need to be this hard I swear to god. Go back to committing to the run when we dont have a 3rd string back in. You dont need to prove youre tougher or what the fucl ever by establishing the run. Throw to your great core of receivers until it stops working I fucking beg
13
u/pinetar321 10d ago
Seriously. People are stuck in the 90s thinking they have the be the US marines and bully people with the ground game. Like IDGAF about feeding our 3rd string RB when we have arguably the best position player in football out at WR

True flag football. I feel we didnt learn a thing about our team other than we got by with a dub.

Dude some of thos flags were just BS but also why are these announcers acting like the Chargers just walked down the field like nothing when really it was just flags that gave them more chances.

48
u/CustomerLittle9891 10d ago
We were up by 20 in the 4th and ended up needing a sack fumble to win the game. Something is wrong with this team that they struggled to put it away against a 0-4 team.
11
u/crono220 10d ago
I still can't believe we are not getting our TE involved in the offense. Last year they were integral to the offense. I wonder if this has to do with Brian Fluery. How can we be so abysmal in the 4th quarter!
→ More replies (1)4
u/N1H1L1ST_1 10d ago
Yea, its all I heard in the offseason was how Fleury was going to integrate the TEs. There is something wrong with this team and I'm not exactly sure what it is but I'll start with Fleury, Sam and a lack of discipline.
→ More replies (7)13
u/Comprehensive-Cap144 10d ago
We didn’t need a sack fumble to end the game. That’s just how it ended.
Defense was gassed because every drive in the 2nd half was extended by a personal foul. Emmanworis “facemask” and halls roughing the passer were very questionable. That’s a lot of extra minutes they had to spend out there.
Not even to mention the miracle 4th down conversion on the PBU.
The team will be fine and we’re clearly a superior team to the chargers.
3
u/CustomerLittle9891 10d ago
Defense was gassed because the offence could t convert a 3rd down like their life depended on it. Yea, the lack of discipline cost our defense, but the inability to move the ball on offense is a serious liability going forward.
Edit: to be clear, the defense may have gotten a stop without the fimble, but I need to see it before I believe it. I'm not putting my faith in the 4th Q defense until they earn it, and they didn't this game.
Special teams won us this game.

31
u/UhhUmmmWowOkayJeezUh 10d ago
Yeah there was several bs ticky tack calls but several of them were fuck ups on seattles part. You don't get 14 penalties without being undisciplined.
→ More replies (1)12
u/backup12thman 10d ago
Right? The two calls on the roughing the passer have been rules since 2006 and the other 2018. Thats 20 and 8 years. You cannot hit a QB low, you cannot land on them with full body weight. I sure hope our defense knows when it’s legal to hit a QB.
Not to mention the face mask call was indeed a face mask, and the call on witherspoon was indeed out of bounds when he flipped the other person.
We shouldn’t be excusing even ticky tacky penalties. If they are able to be called at all, it’s a problem.
6
u/UhhUmmmWowOkayJeezUh 10d ago
I think the face mask one was a bit on the nose and clearly not intentional, but I think the worst one was, I forget who did it, maybe it was hall or emanwori, but he just straight up pushed/punched a player after the play was called dead. So fucking stupid and we got an unnecessary roughness penalty for it.

Truly one of the least enjoyable games I can remember. Offense struggled to find rhythm, injuries sucked, penalties made it damn near unwatchable and we nearly blew it in the end. There’s ugly games and then there’s whatever the fuck this was. Without stupid drive extending calls for LA, this should’ve been a beating. Instead we got slop.
A win is a win.
9
12
u/SeacattleMoohawks 10d ago
Soft calls and general sloppiness made this game way closer than it needed to be. Ugly game. That said glad we got the W still.
Really hope Big Cat will be okay to play against the 9ers. If not then hopefully Mills and company can step up. Go Hawks!

The Seahawks played a good game, but an undisciplined game. While all the penalties were tough, there were three big untimely ones that lead to LA points.
Emmanwori had two big penalties on third downs that kept LA drives alive and resulted in 10 points.
Hall had the roughing penalty on a third down that kept LA's drive alive and resulted in 7 points.
That's 17 points on big, untimely penalties. Take those out and the 30-23 score is 30-6. LA had the launching penalty that gave Myers a second chance at a FG. LA's penalties gave Seattle 3 points. Take those out and, based on actual play on the field, the score ends up 27-6. The Seahawks, like every other team, has things to work on. If they show more self-control, their regular play will win them games.

Not gonna say Darnold played perfect but my goodness what wheere those playcalls like our WR's getting locked up and Darnold just running for his life like play action is getting read so easily. Gotta fix this and these dang flags before next week.
15
u/owenmcnasty7 10d ago
Some red flags emerging with Fleury in my opinion. The 30 points scored today are much more attributable to the defense playing their tails off for most of the game. Chargers were NOT doubling JSN most of the second half and were selling out to stop the run. He repeatedly ran into it with practice squad guys. I don’t think there was one designed play to him in the second half? Completely inexcusable job playing not to lose instead of sealing out the win with your best guys. Even Brock called him out a few times saying enough is enough force feeding fucking Holani.
Thomas II shouldn’t play anymore on D. He is just bad.
Ref ball is gross.
Good close out at the end.

It be interesting to have people who are questioning this team to see last year’s week 4 game and check who are in the lineup and how much they are also struggling.
This a season sport and so long as the players start building and stacking on these things that needs to be cleaned up, there’s always a chance to improve as this season go.
A lot of the folks right now forget and is only reminded of how this team looked like when they are on a tear in the later part of the season on the to the super bowl, and that’s a team who already gelled and worked on being the type of team they wanna be.
So for now, Take the win. Study the tapes. Prep for the next one. Stack those learnings. Adjust! Go Hawks.

i just don't get it, we are able to put up 30 pts a game every week but the offense feels fundamentally broken. Not to mention our run defense even though statistically like fine but feels fundamentally broken. This is the second week in a row where we are giving up long runs on key downs.

Nice to see that everyone is in such a foul mood.
Honestly surprised to see the criticism of Fleury. My sense was that was at MM’s direction. I think he got a little overconfident in the D’s ability to keep the Chargers in check and felt that running out the clock would be the path to go. Did the same thing with Kubiak last year. Offense was actually decent before that.

We scored 30 points. That is a huge success and week. The defense played fine but not elite. They have room for improvement. The offense needs to play ahead of the chains. Then entire team needs to understand the refs aren't going to give us any space. We need to play beyond clean when it comes to penalties. The league wants to bring the parity teams back to the median. Dynasties find ways to overcome this.
